Everyone in Blackwater City has secrets, Cairos Reed just discovered his may not belong to him. After finding a dead woman inside Apartment 404, Cairos uncovers a recorded message warning him not to trust “the man with his face.” Hours later, someone using Cairos’s voice appears outside the apartment door.
Soon the police begin linking Cairos to crimes he cannot remember committing. Surveillance footage shows him in places he has never been, strangers insist they know him, missing people are connected to him. Worst of all, another version of Cairos may be moving through the city independently.
As Blackwater descends deeper into paranoia, Cairos is pulled into a hidden war involving illegal memory manipulation, identity theft, and a secret system capable of rewriting human consciousness itself.
Every answer only creates more questions. Who is the other Cairos? Why are parts of his memory missing? And if his identity can be altered, how can he trust anything he remembers?
In a city where memories are bought, stolen, and rewritten, the truth may be the most dangerous thing left alive.
