What the Moon Refuses to Break
Ethan’s POV
I’ve already chosen another mate. She is very beautiful, and her father is the Alpha of the mighty Crescent Moon Pack. My parents think that we will make the perfect match, as we are the two strongest wolf packs around here. We cannot allow the Lycans who are on our borders to attack us. Many people confuse us with Lycans. We’re not like them. We’re totally different from them. They live longer than us, and it is tougher to kill them, but we have learned how to kill them when we took out one of their kingdoms a few years ago. Of course, we never told Evelyn Hale. Her parents had kicked her out of the pack when they realized that she was going to marry a werewolf. She has lost all contact with her pack and her parents. She didn't even know that the kingdom was taken out when we attacked them.
We sent her and her Beta away so that they would not know what was happening while they were gone. They had to stay away for two months because that is what my father and the rest of the werewolves in this area wanted. We secretly took their grounds. I think that is why the Lycans are coming after us now. Evelyn was a mighty warrior, and all of us were afraid of her, and that is why we sent the rogues to kill her and her betrayer of a husband. Even when they called for help, we pretended that we did not hear. However, the daughter did escape, and now she is my mate. I refuse to have her as a mate. I refuse to have a half-breed as my mate. I cannot wait to see her face tonight when I tell her that I reject her. She is going to be so surprised because she thinks that I am in love with her, but I was only using her. I did want to sleep with her, but she didn’t want to sleep with me, saying that she wanted to stay pure until we got married. I am going to take her as a lover anyway. She is only a slave in our community. I know that my father likes to beat the living hell out of her when he is angry. I have seen the scars on her, but she does not have a wolf to heal her. She’s neither werewolf nor Lycan, so I don’t believe that she is going to get a wolf from the Moon Goddess.
She must be an abomination in the eyes of the Moon Goddess. Anyway, I’m getting ready for the ceremony tonight. She thinks it is our mating ceremony. What she does not know is that I am going to become the mate of Lilith Strongborn. Lily’s parents and my parents have already talked about us being mates. We do not believe in the mate bond. We believe that anybody can mate with anyone. Why would the Moon Goddess give us free will but then give us mates? My wolf is crying in my head. He does not want to listen to me. He wants Aria. However, I have pushed him back. He is not going to tell me what to do. I am the dominant one in this relationship. The human side of me is the one that is making decisions for us. I cannot wait for the moon to rise.
I am going to wait until she accepts me, then I’m going to tell her that I am very sorry, Aria, but I am not going to be your mate. I am going to reject her and tell her that I am going to marry Lilith Strongborn. Of course, we are not going to get married immediately. She is going to stay here at the pack with us until we get to know each other better. I cannot wait to see the hurt on Aria’s face. Ever since I realized that she was my wolf’s mate, I was angry. I never wanted her to be my mate. I do not know what the Moon Goddess was thinking in giving her to me. Luckily, Lilith is like me. She does not care about mate bonds and stuff like that. I am dressed in my best suit, and of course, I had asked Aria to clean it for me. Oh, she was willing, like always. She always thinks that I am in love with her and that I am the one who is protecting her, while I know all about her beatings at night. I only pretended that I loved her because I did try to get her into my bed. It is a shame she is so stubborn.
“Are you ready for tonight? I cannot wait to see our little slave’s face when she realizes that you are not going to be her mate. Maybe she will run away. Maybe she will go and live among the humans where she belongs. She does not even have a wolf,” Margie, my sister, says. Margie is mates with Marcus, my best friend. Luckily for them, my father approves of their relationship. I do not know if they are true mates, but I do know that they do like each other and that they are in love. I believe in love more than in the mate bond, and I am sure that I can learn to love Lilith. She is beautiful, much more beautiful than Aria, who looks too thin from not eating properly. I am sure my wolf will come to terms with Lilith once he sees her wolf. How can he even be mates with Aria if she does not have a wolf?
“She does have a wolf, and you are all going to regret what you did to her. She is much stronger than you think. She just has not awakened yet. You’d better hope she does not awaken at the ceremony. You forget one thing. The moon refuses to break the mate bond. You are going to destroy yourself. Don’t expect me to be there for you when you do. I may be your wolf, and I may be a part of you, but I am not going to go down with you,” Rufus, my wolf, says.
“Shut up! What do you know? Don’t tell me you can feel her wolf, because I would have felt it as well. You will do as I say,” I say. I push Rufus back to the back of my mind, but this time it is more difficult. I am so much stronger than him, and I will not allow him to take over. He may have Alpha blood in him, but he is still only my wolf.
