Chapter 5 Death?
"Don't go out alone at night."
"Young master it would be better if you followed my advice at times, the world out there isn't really peaceful, it's not safe."
"Young master, you need to learn to take responsibility, the world would keep moving no matter how much you wish for it to stop and give you a break to re-organize yourself."
"Young master, being so reckless and unfilial will not pay in the long term."
"Young master...."
"Young mas..."
Silas always gave warnings, training, advice and cared for him like the mother he never had ever since he was young.
Despite the warnings Nathan still stuck to his ways, his rules and methods, there was little Silas could do to amend his ways as it was all up to him to decide whatever he wanted for himself at the end of it all.
But now it was coming back to hit squarely in the face, stuck between a battle involving four Bio-engineered humans was probably the worst thing that could happen for a normal human like Nathan. He slowly crept backwards, trying his best to avoid notice from the four as much as possible when he heard Aeric's voice loud and clear in the dead of the forest.
"Don't play any tricks kid, trust me when I say I can catch you no matter how far you run, the moment you go out of your way I won't mind killing you as that would be even better after you've seen our faces." The cold voice sent chills through his spine even though the person in question didn't even turn to look at him, his attention was still fully placed on the girl surrounded by the three.
None of them made a move to change the situation, every passing second felt like torture for Nathan as he wondered what would become of him once they managed to capture the girl.
'They'll obviously come for me next, and by then I won't even have the choice to decide... Should I just use it?'
Lost in his thought, Nathan was still contemplating on his next decision when the girl suddenly darted towards Jack at blinding speed, before Jack could make a move or react she clenched her fists then gave a resounding punch towards the giant's chest which was roughly the same height as her head.
Bang!
Jack crossed his arms before his chest but they were spread apart by a gleam of red light, her punch landed on his chest then blew him meters away, crashing into a tree which collapsed from the impact instantly.
She followed up with another kick which he couldn't react to, then took a huge leap far away, planning to escape from the others before Jack could get back up but Aeric didn't plan to follow that script.
"C'mon, don't you ever think I'm this dumb. I already expected you would find our dear dumb and slow Jack with nothing but muscles as the weak link, everyone knows Jack has no brains yet you still took it." He then snapped his right finger, generating a spark of electricity from his fingertips which resonated with the sound waves and travelled towards her path.
Boooommm!! A loud explosion blew up just a few meters away from her, nearly tearing her flesh apart but she still managed to dodge it albeit with an unsteady stance, her muscles were obviously cramped and strained.
Refusing to let her get away, Aeric dashed forward at such an incredible speed Nathan could barely see an afterimage amidst the chaos, following right behind was Nelson with his sickles pointed outwards, gleaming in the dark night with a cold sheen.
The girl raised her arms and managed to conjure a shield made of red strands before her, just in time to block Aeric's punch which spread cracks over it along with multiple lightning splitters across the edges.
"Get up you moron, you'd better not let her get away!" Nelson said with a disdainful look while watching Jack who still laid sprawled on the ground.
Heeding to Nelson's words Jack stood from the ground, propped himself with a tree beside him, pulled it up and swung it in a wide arc at the teen.
Bang!
"Are you mad?!!" Aeric screamed out in anger, the tree swung by Jack had nearly flung him away just seconds ago when he was launching attacks at the young girl.
He quickly blasted it away then turned to watch Nelson keeping her busy with his barrage of multiple slashes with extreme precision and speed, ignoring Jack's blunder he joined in the fight and managed to suppress the girl to a point where she could barely resist or defend herself anymore.
Nathan witnessed all this happen with his heart beating rapidly, steeling his mind he slowly inserted his hands into his inner shirt then pulled out a small pistol, it had the logo of the Frostmoon family inscribed on it with jagged edges and a protruding barrel at the edge, cracking it silently a whirring sound lit up beside it, the bars slowly filled up then lit the barrel up.
Aeric and Nelson had yet to notice Nathan's movements due to the distractions from their battle with the girl but the moment the barrel lit up Aeric noticed it, his eyes opened wide as he screamed out in shock.
"Nelson, he has the R-Photon pulse pistol get out of the way!"
Bang!!!!
Before Nelson could react the shot was already fired from the barrel, a charge travelled through space and landed squarely on his chest, blasting apart a huge chunk away from his body then drilled inwards all the way through to the other side, Nelson's eyes closed shut then fell to the ground, dead!
"Nelson!!" Aeric screamed out in anger then turned towards Nathan, his spine lit up all the way to his brain, eyes and veins with a deep blue light as he took a step forward to attack him but before he could move the girl who was already behind him swung her hands horizontally, a red line extended from her fingertips which shred his upper body apart right from his waist, his body dropped dead just a short few distance away from Nathan as he was still on the motion right before his death.
The girl turned to look at Jack, huffing and panting with her chest constantly heaving. She took short steps one after the other towards him, every step echoing across the silent night.
Jack already knew his fate from their previous clash, he turned round and grabbed onto a huge tree then pulled it up and swung it.
'What? Why?' That was the last thing Nathan thought before his vision blacked out, pools of blood flowed downwards from his forehead and body, bones broken into minor cracks as he stared blankly at the sky.
'Is this really how I'm going to die? I should have listened to Silas, I should have.'
---
An endless stretch of sand, pale yellow skies, scorching heat and a deserted landscape. The scene felt so familiar to Nathan after all, he had seen it multiple times over the past years.
"Why am I here?" He muttered with hands raised, the sand beneath his feet suddenly shuffled aside, followed by a crack that appeared high up in the sky, fragments of space broke apart and crumbled into tiny shards which fell onto the desert and from it came a figure.
The source of his misery for countless years to come.
