Chapter 7 Seven
“Earlier on, I lied about the whole thing because I was scared that I would be reprimanded. For three months now, Mr. Noah hasn't paid our salaries, and he has threatened to annihilate anyone who reveals his secret to the world.”
He burst into tears.
“Jerry died because of him, Detective Lizzy. I saw when he was being pushed down the rooftop.”
Wow!
“Who pushed him?”
I asked, getting up from the chair.
“I didn't see his face clearly because the rooftop is so far away from the ground. But he was tall, and had a mask on his face.”
I nodded my head, pacing around the office.
“Forgive me for saying this now, I was scared.”
He sobbed.
“Why aren't you scared now?”
I asked him, returning to the chair.
“Because I know Detective Lizzy is a kind person who stands by justice alone, and you will save me from Mr. Noah’s treachery.”
Well,
That is correct.
“Please, Detective Lizzy, do not inform Mr. Noah that I told you all this. He is going to search for me and slay me.”
Funny.
“Are you going to run away?”
He sniffles.
“I am scared of him.”
Hmmm
“Do not leave the city, okay? I will protect you.”
He wiped his face and smiled happily.
“Thank you so much, Detective Lizzy, can I go now?”
I waved my hand and he scurried out.
This has just taken another turn.
THE NEXT DAY
“Has Mr. Noah returned to the city?”
I asked as soon as I got inside the office.
“Not yet, Detective Lizzy.”
That's confusing.
Someone died in his company yesterday and he hasn't returned?
What type of person is he?
Is he that careless?
Maybe he doesn't care about his name.
“When I communicated with his secretary a few minutes ago, she informed me he doesn't care about what happened.”
Pffft.
Thump! Thump!
The heavy thud of footsteps echoed towards the office.
I veered towards the direction of the door, and the sound stopped.
“You can't go in like that, Detective Lizzy has to give you permission.”
Said one of the officers outside.
“I will go check what is happening.”
The officer with me said,
But before he could move a step,
The door flew open, and a guy in his early 30s walked in.
I folded my arms, scanning him from head to toe.
He isn't only handsome, but his physique commands attention.
One could have mistaken him for a bodyguard if not for the expensive suit, and the expensive watch on his wrist.
“Are you Detective Lizzy?”
He pointed his glasses at me.
“Yes. And who are you?”
I asked, and a smirk appeared on his face.
“Everyone in this city knows me, and you won't be an exception.”
He said.
What an arrogant person.
Well,
I know how to deal with people like him.
“Detective Lizzy, that is Mr. Noah Dominick.”
Ohhh,
No wonder he is so full of himself.
“Tell me he is a careless billionaire who doesn't care about his reputation.”
Noah frowned.
“Do not talk to me that way, lady.”
Pffft.
“You are in my office, Noah, behave yourself.”
The officer passed me a file.
“I was just talking about you so, have a seat and answer my questions.”
I snapped at him.
Like a little child, he sat down on the chair.
“Now let's begin.”
“An employee died in your company yesterday, and after a thorough investigation by your employees, it turns out you are not who they think you are.”
He raised a brow curiously.
“What do you mean, Detective Lizzy?”
He asked,
“Do you mean they are accusing me of murder?”
I nodded my head and he gasped.
“What nonsense is that? And you believe them?”
“Calm down, Mr. Noah, I am still investigating the case. It is after the investigation that I will know if you are guilty or not.”
Hearing that,
He exhaled and shook his head.
“I have no idea how that person died, I wasn't even in the city when it happened.”
He shook his head again.
“Are you done with the questioning? I need to go now.”
He said, getting up.
Go to where?
No one dares to walk out on me when I am doing my work.
“Sit down, Mr. Noah, I am not done. And if I may ask, where do you want to go?”
He checked his wrist watch and looked at me.
“To my company of course.”
“Don't you know it has been sealed?”
He let out a sigh.
“That is what brought me here. I want it to be unsealed because I have a lot of business to do.”
Not when I am the one investigating this case.
I got up, walked away from the desk, and stood in front of him.
“Noah. When I investigate a case, I don't tolerate shit from anybody. That company will remain sealed until I am done there.”
I stepped closer.
“Is there anything you are hiding from me?”
He lifted a brow.
“What do you mean?”
He asked.
“Are you sure you are not guilty of the accusation?”
He scoffed.
“Do whatever you want, Detective Lizzy, I have nothing to hide.”
He shrugged.
“Now tell me what your relationship with your employees is like.”
He shrugged his shoulders.
“Normal.”
“How normal?”
“I am their boss, and the only time I talk to them is during a general meeting.”
Okay.
“What about their salary? Some of them claim you don't pay them…”
“What!”
He exclaimed, eyes broadening in shock.
“The financial department in my company handles that. And every month, I have to approve a certain amount before it is paid out.”
Hmmm.
“So I don't know why they will say I don't pay them. I have my reputation to maintain, Detective Lizzy. Unless something fishy is happening in my company which I don't know.”
“Okay. That is it for today. I will call you for more questions later.”
A few minutes after he had left, an officer came in with a file.
“This is the result of the autopsy,”
Wonderful!
I took the file from him and went through it.
Wow!
So this is it?
“Summon the secretary and the employee who returned earlier.”
