Chapter 2
Everyone froze.
Invitation?
They invited the Mercenary King?
Could Kane be...?
But everyone quickly dismissed that thought.
He was just a rapist who had just gotten out of prison, penniless!
"You bastard, what are you dreaming about! Why would we invite a rapist like you?"
Ophelia shouted angrily, "Kane, how dare you show up here! You tried to rape me back then, and when that failed, you went after an innocent stranger!"
"Her whole family was killed because of you!"
"You rapist, you murderer, get out!"
Kane didn't expect Ophelia to be so shameless!
They were the ones who did it, yet they pinned the blame on him!
Damn it!
"Kane, you repaid kindness with evil, but we're willing to let bygones be bygones!"
Silas pointed at Winnie crawling on the ground, "Look, we've taken such good care of your child, and look at you, showing up with a coffin!"
Kane's eyes fell on Winnie.
She was crawling on the ground, wolfing down a chicken leg, gnawing on the bones until they were covered with teeth marks.
She was thin and sallow, wearing a dog collar around her neck.
When he learned they had taken in his child, he had even briefly considered sparing them.
He never imagined Ophelia would treat his child this way!
Damn them!
Silas shouted, "Winnie, is the chicken leg good?"
"Yes!" Winnie nodded.
Silas lifted his leg, "Lick my foot, and you can have another chicken leg!"
Winnie looked at the chicken leg and licked her lips.
But she hesitated and said, "I don't want to eat anymore. Mom said that's wrong."
"Eat! You're going to eat today whether you like it or not!"
Silas's face instantly darkened as he grabbed Winnie's neck tightly.
"Get away!"
Kane roared and rushed forward.
He kicked Silas away with one foot.
As Silas struggled to get up, Kane grabbed the coffin and slammed it heavily onto Silas's back.
Bang!
The previously arrogant Silas coughed up blood and passed out on the spot!
The surroundings fell silent.
You could hear a pin drop!
Everyone was stunned.
They didn't expect Kane to dare attack Silas in front of everyone right after getting out of prison!
"Taking down Silas is just a little interest I'm collecting!"
"It's not even one ten-thousandth of what you did to me!"
"Within one month, everyone who was involved back then must kneel at my family's graves for three days to repent, and publicly confess your crimes. Then I might consider letting you go!"
"Otherwise, in one month, I guarantee each of you will wish you were dead!"
Kane's voice was low but terrifying.
"Winnie, I'm taking you away from here!"
Kane knelt in front of Winnie, his previously murderous face showing a pleasing and uncertain smile.
Winnie looked at Kane, and somehow, as if possessed, she nodded, "Okay."
"Stop him!"
Ophelia roared.
The next moment!
Black-clad bodyguards rushed out with weapons, charging toward Kane.
Boom!
But then, a helicopter suddenly appeared overhead.
On the helicopter was written: Tempest Mercenaries!
"It's Tempest Mercenaries!"
"The Mercenary King is here!"
"Quick, kneel to welcome him!"
Ophelia and the others all knelt on one knee.
Their faces full of devotion, not daring to lift their heads, they shouted in unison, "Welcome, Mercenary King!"
The cabin door burst open.
Bang!
With a loud crash, something massive fell from the sky, slamming hard into the ground.
Dust flew everywhere, the earth shook.
The helicopter turned and flew away into the distance.
"Why is it leaving?"
"What is that?"
"It must be a gift from the Mercenary King!"
"I wonder what grand gesture the Mercenary King has made! I'm so excited! I'd give up three years of my life just to see him!"
Ophelia's heart leaped with joy.
Even the Mercenary King was sending her gifts!
After today, she would be the number one queen of Harborview City!
Everyone rushed over full of anticipation.
When they saw the gift clearly, everyone was dumbfounded.
A 9-foot-tall cross was stuck in the ground.
Written on the cross in blood was: Judgment!
"The Lockwood family has offended the Mercenary King! Anyone who doesn't want to get caught up in this, run!"
A scream rang out.
Everyone's faces changed dramatically as they fled, not even stopping to pick up their shoes.
The once lively estate instantly became eerily quiet.
"How could this happen?"
Ophelia couldn't believe it!
"Ophelia, it must be because of that rapist Kane! He showed up here with a coffin, the Mercenary King must be furious!"
"He hurt my son and ruined my plans!"
Ophelia clenched her fists, her expression twisted, "Tear that bastard to pieces!"
But Kane had already disappeared without a trace.
......
Azure Kitchen.
Harborview City's only three-Michelin-star restaurant.
On the table were roasted meat, beef Wellington, exquisite desserts—a whole table full of food.
Winnie's eyes widened at the sight.
It seemed she had never seen such delicious-looking food in her life!
She kept swallowing, but didn't pick up her utensils.
Kane was puzzled, "Winnie, why aren't you eating?"
Winnie swallowed again, lifted her head, and said carefully, "Sir, I miss my mom. Can you take me to find her now?"
Kane understood—Winnie wanted to eat with her mother. He couldn't help but smile.
He didn't expect Winnie to be so thoughtful at such a young age.
"Then I'll pack up the food and take you home."
"My mom's not home. She went to The Gilded Goblet."
"The Gilded Goblet? What's she doing there?"
"I don't know. Mom said she had to do something very, very important."
Hearing this, Kane's brow furrowed.
The Gilded Goblet was a nightclub in Harborview City notorious for its shady reputation!
Winnie was starving, yet when she got good food, her first thought was of Isabelle.
But Isabelle left Winnie behind to party at a nightclub?
This made Kane somewhat angry.
"Winnie, your mom treats you so badly, why do you still care about her so much?"
Before Kane could finish, Winnie's expression changed, glaring at him angrily.
"My mom is the best mom in the world! Don't say bad things about her!"
"You're a bad person just like those other people!"
Winnie's eyes turned red as tears streamed down her face.
Kane panicked.
He quickly stopped Winnie, "Winnie, I didn't mean it, I apologize!"
"I'll take you to find your mom right now, okay?"
Kane spent a long time comforting Winnie before she finally forgave him.
Kane was puzzled.
Isabelle left Winnie at the Lockwood family while she went to party at a nightclub, so why did Winnie still care about her so much?
Could there be some misunderstanding?
On the way to The Gilded Goblet, Kane called Bayonet, "Bayonet! Find out what Isabelle is doing at The Gilded Goblet."
"What?"
"Someone wants Winnie's kidney?"
"Isabelle has to drink with a gang leader to protect Winnie?"
Kane was thunderstruck!
No wonder Winnie defended Isabelle so fiercely—Isabelle was a good mother.
He was the irresponsible father!
Kane became like an enraged lion, radiating murderous intent, "If anyone dares touch a hair on Isabelle's head, I'll make sure they die without a burial place!"
