My eyes peeled open to soundless brightness. 

And a puzzle immediately filled my hypersensitive thoughts.

I had died. Or at least was supposed to. 

In such a scorching desert, falling unconscious on the hot sand for a couple of hours was enough to turn one into dried meat.
