Chapter 6 CHAPTER 6: The Awakening
Elizabeth's POV
My head was hurting by the time my eyes managed to flutter open. Something was wrong.
Utterly wrong, but I couldn't even place it.
The ceiling was moving. Fuck, I was moving.
The last thing I remembered, was going back to my dorm, when I felt something hit my head, and I collapsed to the ground. The last thing I saw before falling unconscious were boots.
Those boots… who owned them?
That was when my brain managed to process the hands that were holding on to mine. My heart beat accelerated immediately, but my head could barely even whip to the side to see the person that was holding me. But I could tell that it was more than one person.
“Who…” I whispered, and I felt them stop immediately. I smelled Kae’s perfume, and that was enough to make me stop in my tracks.
The people holding me almost dropped me.
Kae? He wouldn't even have the nerve to touch me.
“Are you okay?” I heard another voice ask, making me freeze again. “Can you hear me, Elizabeth?”
I yanked my arms away from theirs, and they moved back immediately.
The three of them stood side by side as they watched me.
“How did she…” Lucif was asking, but the other two didn't answer him.
Andy made an attempt to touch me again, but I flinched. “Don't touch me,” I spat.
They were the kings. The last people that I could trust. Not after everything that Kae had done in that room. There was no way I was trusting any of them. I looked over at him, and he looked more than guilty.
Good. He should.
“We just want to help you,” Andy was saying
“You don't want to,” I spat, before bringing my hand to my head to dull the aching pain. It did nothing to help. “You're the ones who hit me with a stick, aren't you?”
I looked down at their feet, and that was when I noticed that they were wearing boots as well. Fuck, we all wore boots in this stupid school.
My knees buckled again, and my whole body felt different. I could hear three heartbeats. And when I looked up at each king, the heartbeat sound increased. I couldn't be hearing their heart beats. There was none of that, that was normal.
“You're safe,” Lucif said, and I shook my head.
“I'm not,” I whispered. My voice came out rough. “No, I'm not.”
Not after everything that I was trying to remember.
At some point, I was already regretting coming to this school when I knew that I wasn't even going to fit it. But then, my mom was at home, waiting. She only wanted the best for me.
If only she knew what I had passed through, ever since I came to this school.
My chest suddenly tightened, and something inside of me moved. Then it snapped. My chest surged forward, and my knees immediately gave away. I was on the ground in seconds, and I could feel tears clouding my eyes, as I tried to claw my way. The only thing that did was make my nails scrape against the concrete of the floor.
Anything. Anything to help me keep myself together, and it wasn't working.
The silence was deafening, and the only thing I could hear was four heartbeats, mine included. The blood rushing in my ears, and my heavy breathing.
This was wrong.
That was when. I noticed my hands. They weren't feeling the same either. I managed to haul myself to a kneeling position, as I brought my hands to my face. There was concrete burning my knees, but I didn't even care at that point.
My hands looked the same, but as I flexed my fingers again, there was something about it that had changed.
I looked up at the three men. “What did I do?” I asked, with my voice cracking. “What did you do to me?”
Lucif was the first one to step forward. I noticed the way he was looking at me like I was some kind of specimen. Andy stayed away, and Kae looked shaken. Actually shaken.
“I don't have powers,” I whispered. I was rambling, but that was the only thing that made sense at that point. “I swear, I don't. I-I was tested. I-”
My voice was immediately cut off when I felt the heat spread through my veins. Like something was waking up.
And whatever it was, it was quick.
“Stay away from me,” I said, as I scrambled away from the men.
Lucif looked at the other men, and he was the first one to move. He was swift and before I knew it, he was behind me.
I tried to move away, but he wouldn't even let that. He immediately grabbed my ankles, holding me in place. I tried to move away from his grasp, but his hands were firmly in place.
He looked up at the other two, while I tried to fight for my life by kicking, fighting and clawing. Nothing worked.
“Are you guys going to help me or not?” He asked, and I could feel hands against my neck.
“What are you doing?” I asked immediately, but not even one person answered me.
The fingers on my neck tapped twice, and I felt things start to blur.
What were they doing to me? I was trying so hard not to cry. I should have known that I was never going to actually fit in. I didn't know what I was thinking.
“We need to move now,” Lucif was saying in front of me, and I could hear footsteps coming from somewhere else.
“Move where?” I still managed to snap, and before I knew it, I was being lifted to the air. This time, I couldn't fight, and I could feel myself being moved again.
Whatever was happening, these men knew exactly what was happening. And whatever this was, I could tell that it wasn't going away anytime soon.
