Chapter 2 The Omega's Last Goodbye

Drake's eyes fixed on the documents before turning icily to Elena. Immediately Elena said the word “ divorce”, Drake felt a little sharp pain within him. He wasn't expecting Elena to be the one to announce it and it seems that he felt their connection were being stripped away, leaving only absence behind.

Elena lifted the cup of her wine glass and her eyes were still locked on Drake's eyes, while she allowed the drink to run slowly down her throat along with her unshed tears. Her hand trembled ever so slightly. "“Happy 26th birthday, Drake,” she remarked with a steady voice.

She then dropped the glass cup down on a nearby tray and added, “I’ve informed the police about the drugging incident,” she said softly, while still looking straight at Drake. “I'm sure that they wouldn't waste much time to unveil the culprit behind this mess. “Regarding today, I'm expecting a public apology from you."

Gasping murmurs spread among the assembled pack members, their sharpened werewolf senses detecting every quiver in her tone, each trace of sorrow she concealed.

"After you’ve said you're sorry," she insisted, her wolf instincts urging her to remain strong, "we’ll retrieve our divorce certificate." "From then on, there will be no further connections between us."

The faint murmurs deepened into a silken grumble of unrest and hidden intrigue within the crowd.

Behind Elena’s eyes, a storm simmered in silence, their glow betraying her suppressed rage. "Indeed, I once aimed to preserve our relationship." However, Drake, I, Elena Monroe, would never degrade myself to the level of drugging someone merely to retain them. "Had it been that you have any hint of trust in me, you would have pursued the truth rather than judging me."

A slight quiver accompanied her words, yet her wolf spirit kept her grounded. I decided to wait for your recovery because I was afraid that if you remembered everything, you'd resent me for abandoning you on such an early stage of the incident.”

“But at this moment? I have made an effort. “I’ve poured every piece of myself into this. But I’m done stitching together what’s already in ruins.” “I’ve waited long enough. I won’t waste another moment.”

Her eyes remained fixed on him—the Drake she had once loved, the man who had been her partner in every sense except title. Now, she was cutting the last link, removing her connection with him.

"Therefore, Drake... this time, it's me who is letting you go." Elena added.

Elena dropped the divorce papers into Drake's hand, her eyes were filled with unshed tears and she didn't wait to get any response from Drake. Instead, she turned, carrying the weight of her decision.

Marcus followed his friend, his imposing figure parting the crowd with ease.

Caught in shocked silence, an elder seized the documents, reading them aloud with clear precision. "Elena Monroe claims that she will leave Mr. Drake Hamilton with nothing and she is even prepared to settle the medical expenses from the two years she was in a coma."

Laughter erupted.

"Is this genuine?" "Could this be yet another of her tricks?" a young she-wolf scoffed. "She has repeated this, stepping out to lure him back once more." "Just hold on, she'll return in three days, pleading."

"Mr. Drake," another man growled, "wrap it all up fast... before she has second thoughts."

Drake grasped the papers tightly in his hands. His wolf wasn't calm and it growled in annoyance. He ought to have experienced relief. Victory. She was leaving without asserting ownership, riches, or even the safety of the pack.

Yet all he experienced was an unsettling emptiness.

Before his wolf could grasp the harsh flavor of defeat, a recognizable scent pierced the atmosphere.

It wasn't long when Marcus hurriedly catched up with Elena, when a stylish white car came to a stop in front of them. The door opened, and Cassandra came out from the passenger's seat, her stance were well dignified along with her alluring fragrance.

Although she was on black shades, her charm was still undeniable. The nearby unmated wolves moved restlessly, attracted to her.

Drake. "Elena Monroe," Cassandra said calmly, as if nothing had happened that evening.

Cassandra's tone became gentler as she looked at Elena. "I'm the last person to believe that you can descend so low to drug Drake. Hope you've contacted the pack's police, so as to clear your innocence over this accusation.”

Elena blinked, a harsh laugh slipping from her. Among all the wolves—Drake, their alleged friends, yet none had trusted her. However, Cassandra did. Regardless of being genuine or filled with ulterior intentions, it marked the initial fragment of .

"I do," Elena answered, her tone detached. "The report has been submitted."

"I hope you both find joy, Miss Cassandra," Elena mentioned, her chin raised.

Cassandra paused, her fingers gripping her gift bag more tightly. "Hold on… has Drake regained his memory?"

Elena moved her head from side to side. "No." "I'm simply... allowing him to go."

Two voices pierced the tense atmosphere, one infused with urgency.

"Cassie!"

Drake forced his way past the wolves, his aura powerful. He encircled Cassandra with an arm protectively, his gaze focused on Elena, his wolf exuding a fierce sense of territory.

Since the drugging event, Cassandra had steered clear of him, her dread of being linked to a scandal surpassing her aspirations. Yet Drake couldn't bear to lose her. He insisted nothing occurred with Elena, separating them like trapped creatures.

"What kind of dress are you putting on?" he snarled, scrutinizing Cassandra's outfit. "It’s overly exposing." "Step inside."

Cassandra broke free, presenting him with the gift. "I have a flight to catch, Drake." I have a major event scheduled for tomorrow. "I will not be staying back for your birthday party."

She smiled softly. "Happy birthday, Drake."

Drake tightly held her hand, his face reflecting his desperation. “Stay only this evening. I will accompany you in the morning. "This indoor party is only meant for the immediate family."

Elena adjusted her scarf, dismissing the pain in her chest, and continued walking.

Cassandra observed her disappearing figure, then turned to Drake. "I am aware of your plans for today." However, Drake, I’m not prepared. "I won't marry you just so you can recall everything and hold a grudge against me."

Her voice was distinct. "If one day, even after your memory comes back, you still choose me… then I will stay."

Drake's jaw clenched, his wolf growling with distrust. "I hope Elena did not say any negative things to you?"

Drake moves straight to where Elena was standing without hesitation.

His talons lengthened. Drake took hold of Elena’s shoulder.

Slap.

The slap resounded like gunfire. Elena fell to the ground forcefully, her forehead colliding with the stone pathway, blood spreading immediately.

Gasping sounds emerged.

"Elena!" "Elena!"

Marcus pushed through the crowd, his kind instincts sparking as he moved next to Elena.

Cassandra knelt down, her hands shaking as she supported Elena's head. "Drake, what the heck are you up to?"

Marcus snarled softly, his eyes shining like molten gold. "You've completely lost your sanity."

He raised Elena's lifeless body with ease, her blood scent awakening protective instincts in every wolf around.

Elena's gaze was empty. Blood smeared her eyesight. She remained silent. Her wolf was withdrawing far inside.

Drake loomed above her, his gaze cold with rage, tone laced with malice. "Why don't you simply die?" "If you die, I won't have to look at your annoying face again."

His smirk intensified, his teeth gleaming. “Pulling an ordinary omega like you away from Atwater Village was the worst mistake I ever made. "Your dad was a rapist, and you’re just as tainted as he was."

The atmosphere shimmered with pressure. Wolves moved nearer, with snarls and soft growls escalating.

Yet nobody budged.

Nobody would risk incurring the anger of the beta's successor.

And Elena...

She remained motionless, her blood soaking the earth, her mate’s harsh words piercing deeply into her spirit.
