Blood of tye Moon

My brows furrowed.

“What is it then?” I asked.

“Dragon... and... phoenix?”

“You're lying.” I shook my head.

My heart began beating faster.

That didn't make sense.

"Look, your veins glow,” the healer pointed out.

I looked down.

Something faint was moving beneath my skin.

Soon the King, who had been watching from the shadows, walked in and grabbed the dish with my blood and sniffed it.

“You lied to me.”

He looked at me.

"What are you talking about? I didn’t know,” I said.

“Everyone has been lying to me.”

He slammed the petri dish on the ground, nd the blood spilled on the stone.

My hands shook.

Everyone had called me wolf-less.

A failure.

So what was this?

He walked towards me, now closer.

Two feet apart.

The bond seemed to be pulling us closer.

The bond tugged in my chest, nd I felt my mark throb.

So did his scar.

I noticed his hand move towards it.

He scratched at it, nd it glowed like a vein of power.

My breathing stopped for a second.

Was that scar reacting to me too?

Once again, power surged, and I lost control of myself.

Ice and fire shot from both my hands.

The King grabbed my wrists to stop it.

The moment his skin touched mine t, he bond exploded.

Pain shot through my hands.

But something else came with it.

Heat.

A pull.

Something inside me wanted to move closer even when every part of me knew I should pull away.

He jerked back.

Blood oozed from his nose.

Guards entered the cell armed with wolfbane-laced whips.

I stared at him.

He had been hurt because he touched me.

I watched as he wiped the blood and looked at me.

“You're dangerous,” he remarked.

“So are you,” I replied.

He then turned to leave and stopped.

“The council votes in 6 hours.”

He seemed to be battling something.

“If they win, I can't stop them,” he added.

I looked at his back.

“Decide if you want to live, Moon Blessed.”

He paused.

“Because I won't watch you die.”

I trembled from the cold floor but made sure to close my eyes. Maybe the reality might change.

I didn't want to open my eyes.

If I opened them, I would still be in the dungeon.

Still chained and waiting to die.

As soon as the moon shone on my body, I was pulled into another vision.

The cold floor disappeared beneath me and I appeared in a white void and my mom appeared.

“Baby, listen. I have noch time.”

My mother placed her hands on my face and we teleported to a new location.

I gasped as I relived the massacre.

The blazing fire.

The bodies which lay dead on the ground.

I could feel the heat and the scent of iron from the blood.

I looked around but I couldn't understand what I was seeing.

“They killed us for this blood.”

She turned and faced me.

My chest tightened.

Us?

Who were they?

“You're Moon Blessed. Dragon and Phoenix. Only you can break these chains.”

I stared at her.

Dragon and Phoenix?

All my life I had believed I was wolf-less.

A failure.

And now my mother was telling me I was something else.

I wanted to ask her what it meant.

I wanted to ask her why she had never told me.

But before I could speak, she smiled and the vision began fading.

“Mom!”I reached for her.

But my hand passed through her.I woke up screaming and my face wet from my tears.

For a moment I forgot where I was. Then I saw the cold stone walls. The chains.

The dungeon.

My mother was gone again.

“What did you see?”Kieran stood at the door.

I stared at him.

Had he heard me or the bond had pulled him here.

I sat my back against the wall and narrated everything I had witnessed on the other side.

“Fairytales. My people would never do such.”He refused to believe me but his eyes showed a sign of golden in them.

He walked towards me and unlocked the long chain and pulled me towards the royal library.Although the chains were off, guards were still everywhere looking at our every step.

We walked towards the compartment that was not accessible by the general public and I saw ancient books which were covered with dust.

We both moved without talking but we were all looking for the same thing.

Answers.

I arrived at a worn-out book with the title “Moon Blessed" and my fingers stopped on the cover.

Something inside me felt strange.

I took the book and opened the pages.

Some pages were missing but the ones which I read had the same material.

“Rare. Born once per millennium. Connected to the moon and not a wolf.”Kieran read over my shoulder.

My heart skipped.

Not a wolf.

The words felt like they were speaking directly to me.

Our hands brushed and the bond sparked.

We both pulled back.

For a second neither of us spoke.

The bond caused a tremor in the library and a book fell from the top shelf of the bookshelf. It had the council seal.

I picked it up and broke off the seal.

“The Cursed King Prophecy,” I read out loud and looked at Kieran.

“When Moon and the King unite… the old world burns… and a new one rises.”The room was then filled with silence.

I looked at Kieran and he was staring at the words.

“That’s why they fear you.”

Kieran looked at me.“They think you’ll destroy us,” he added.

“Or save us.”I pointed out a line marked in red.

Just then a council elder entered the library covered in a cloak.

When he saw the both of us, he dropped his lantern. His face changed and quickly fled.Soon the council guards walked in armed and captured us before sending us to the elders.

“She must die!” another elder screamed when the midnight trial began.

“She’s under my protection.”Kieran broke the shackles which had him captive and walked towards the elder and choked him.

“Then you die with her,” the council elder said.

His threat was open and it seemed they were forcing him to choose.

So I stepped forward.

“Kill me and you’ll never know,” I said a,nd the room went quiet.

“Know what?” some elders asked with fear on their faces.

“Who cursed your pack 500 years ago
