Chapter 6
In the living room of Thorne Manor, Bruce, Valerie, and Kieran had been waiting all morning.
Kieran sat on the sofa with his legs crossed, his fingers impatiently tapping the armrest. "When will Mr. Hunter arrive?"
Bruce glanced at his pocket watch. "Soon. The butler said before two in the afternoon."
Valerie adjusted her collar, her face wearing an expectant smile. "As long as Mr. Hunter comes and the marriage is settled, the Thorne family won't have to look at anyone's face anymore."
Kieran's lips curved upward. "Especially the Cohen family. That Evan, relying on his money, has never looked at us properly. Once we're connected with Mr. Hunter, let's see how arrogant he can be."
Just as he finished speaking, the butler Wade walked in, looking somewhat strange.
"Mr. Thorne, guests have arrived."
Bruce immediately stood up. "Mr. Hunter is here? Show him in quickly!"
"It's not Mr. Hunter," Wade interrupted him. "It's people from the Cohen family."
Bruce's smile froze.
Kieran frowned. "Who?"
"Evan, along with his daughter Isabella, and Dr. Carroll. Rector is also with them."
The three people in the living room changed their expressions simultaneously.
"You're saying Isabella came too? Wasn't she cursed and unable to wake up?" Kieran was extremely surprised.
"What is he doing here?" Valerie said shrilly.
Bruce said with a stern face, "Let them in." Evan walked in front, followed by Isabella and Claire, with Rector at the back.
Entering the living room, Evan glanced at the three members of the Thorne family and said expressionlessly, "Bruce, we're here."
Bruce didn't invite them to sit down. Standing in place, he said coldly, "Evan, today is the day the Thorne family receives Mr. Hunter. What are you doing here?"
Evan said, "With Mr. Hunter visiting, as the head of the Cohen family, it's appropriate for me to pay a visit too."
"Appropriate?" Kieran sneered. "I think you want to take the opportunity to suck up to Mr. Hunter. I heard your daughter woke up, and you immediately rushed over here with people. Nice plan."
Isabella's face darkened, but she didn't speak.
Valerie's gaze fell on Rector, her face full of disgust. "Rector, did you bring the Cohen family here? You traitor who bites the hand that feeds you!"
Rector said calmly, "I didn't bring anyone. Mr. Cohen came on his own."
"Shut up!" Bruce roared. "You're the family's disgrace! You made us lose all face, and now that you're out of prison, instead of staying quiet, you bring outsiders to mess up our big event!"
Kieran stood up, walked in front of Rector, and poked his chest with his finger. "You're working with the Cohen family to cause trouble here, trying to sell out the Thorne family's interests, right? I'm telling you, don't even think about it!"
Rector didn't step back or fight back. He just looked at Kieran, his eyes as calm as still water.
Kieran felt uncomfortable under this gaze and stepped back, turning to Bruce. "Father, make them leave. We have Mr. Hunter backing us now. We don't need to look at the Cohen family's face."
Bruce nodded and said to Evan, "Did you hear that? Please leave. Today is a big day for the Thorne family. Outsiders are not welcome."
Evan's face looked terrible.
He had originally wanted to use this opportunity to connect with William, but he didn't expect the Thorne family to become so arrogant and immediately turn against him.
Evan suppressed his anger. "Bruce, the marriage agreement between our two families still stands. We're not outsiders."
"Marriage agreement?" Valerie glanced at Evan. "That was just to find someone for your cursed daughter. Now you want to cling to us? Dream on! Rector is our person. We'll make him marry whoever we want, but don't think the Cohen family can use this excuse to cozy up to Mr. Hunter."
Kieran chimed in, "Exactly. Isabella, didn't you look down on Rector? Perfect, let's cancel this marriage agreement. After all, someone who's been in prison doesn't deserve you anyway."
Isabella bit her lip and was about to speak when Claire grabbed her arm, signaling her not to talk.
Evan took a deep breath. "The marriage agreement was made by both parties. It's not up to you alone."
"Who would have thought the Cohen family would have a day when they'd rush to flatter the Thorne family." Bruce sneered. "You can look down on us, but wait until Mr. Hunter arrives and see who has the final say."
The atmosphere in the living room grew increasingly tense.
Rector stood to the side, having barely said a few words from beginning to end. He looked at the faces of the three Thornes without any emotional response.
After all, he had long seen through these people.
The argument grew more heated.
Kieran pointed at the door. "Get out! All of you get out! Rector, you too! The Thorne family doesn't need a traitor like you who sides with outsiders!"
Bruce also said, "Rector, from today on, you're not part of the Thorne family. Marry whoever you want, it has nothing to do with us, but don't think about taking another penny from the family!"
Valerie loudly agreed, "Exactly! You can just die outside with that cursed woman!"
Rector finally spoke.
His voice wasn't loud, but everyone in the living room heard it clearly. "I've never expected anything from you, not three years ago, and not now."
Kieran was enraged by this statement and rushed forward to attack.
Just then, Wade hurried in again. This time his face was even more tense than before, with sweat even breaking out on his forehead.
"Mr. Thorne!" His voice was trembling. "He's here, Mr. Hunter is here!"
The living room instantly fell silent.
