Chapter 5 GLITCH CRAFTING

Chapter 5: Glitch-Crafting

The village inside the safe zone was quiet again, the big crimson text box in the sky was gone, the bright blue lines on the defensive barrier were stable, but Julian knew they were not completely safe, the System AI was actively learning from his actions, the next server patch would be much worse.

Julian sat on an overturned plastic crate inside Malakai’s messy workshop, he laid three items on the metal counter.

First was the Glitched Shiv, its dull iron blade vibrating with a faint gray pixel mist, second was the Red-Static Core, the glowing crimson crystal he took from the elite hound, third was a small glass vial containing the 50 units of uncompiled energy liquid he had hacked from the safe zone's grid.

Malakai leaned over the counter, his pixelated left arm flickered rapidly, casting strange shadows on the wall. "Are you really going to do this, kid? Forging a glitched item is an illegal action, if the System catches you compiling forbidden data, it might skip the patch and just deploy an Executioner unit to erase you."

"The System is already trying to erase me, Malakai," Julian said, he did not look up from the items, "If I keep fighting with low physical stats, i will die anyway, i need to stay ahead of the code."

Lyra stood by the shop's door, her arms crossed over her chest. Her large tactical sword rested against her leg. "I will keep watch outside. If anything goes wrong, I'll pull you out," she gave Julian a firm nod and stepped through the door.

Julian breathed in slowly, he activated his Savvy attribute and focused his mind entirely on the three items.

Because his Perception was now at 14, the world changed instantly, the physical metal counter vanished from his sight, instead, he saw three distinct floating blocks of raw computer text, the text lines were moving, shifting, and glowing with different colors.

The Glitched Shiv was a messy, broken line of green code that kept repeating itself, the Red-Static Core was a dense, heavy block of crimson logic that hummed with high speed and physical power, the uncompiled energy liquid looked like a pool of empty blue data space, waiting for instructions.

Forbidden Glitch-Crafting Menu Opened.

Warning: Forging this item will create a permanent local data anomaly.

Do you wish to compile? Yes / No

Julian focused his mind on the Yes button,

"Let's change the rules," he whispered, he reached out his hands, he grabbed the crimson core with his left hand and the uncompiled blue energy with his right hand, he shoved them both directly into the gray pixel mist of the rusty dagger.

Instantly, a loud, high-pitched screech filled the small workshop, it sounded like a computer speaker exploding, bright, violent flash of purple and red light blinded Julian for a split second, the air became heavy and smelled like ozone.

The three separate blocks of code collided, the blue energy liquid wrapped around the crimson core, breaking its rigid logic apart, then, the broken crimson data poured into the green repeating lines of the dagger.

ERROR: Input data exceeds standard object parameters.

Overwriting item logic... 30%... 60%... 90%...

Synthesis Complete!

The bright light faded, the heavy pressure in the room disappeared, Julian blinked away the black spots in his vision and looked down at his hands.

The rusty iron dagger was completely gone, in its place was a sleek, beautiful weapon, the blade was made of a strange, polished dark glass that seemed to absorb the light around it, running down the center of the glass blade was a thin, glowing neon-crimson wire, the hilt was wrapped in heavy black leather that felt perfectly molded to Julian's grip.

A large, detailed text box snapped into existence right in front of his face, it was written in a deep, forbidden purple font.

Item Forged: The Static-Lag Dagger (Rank: D - Anomaly Variant)

Physical Damage: 12 (Average)

Attack Speed: Fast

Unique Attributes:

Passive Trait: Latency Injection: Every successful strike injects 10 units of lag data into the target, the target's physical movements and reaction speeds are delayed by 2.0 seconds, this effect stacks up to three times.

Active Skill: Rubber-Band Strike(Cost: 20 Stamina): When a target is under the maximum effect of Latency Injection, activating this skill forces the target's physical body to violently snap backward to the exact geographic position it occupied 3.0 seconds ago, dealing 30 points of raw data damage.

Julian stared at the screen, his heart jumped with excitement, this was not just a weapon; it was a complete tactical system, he could freeze an enemy with lag, let them run away, and then force them to snap backward through space while taking massive damage.

"Incredible," Malakai muttered, his old voice shaking, he reached out his flesh hand to touch the dark glass blade, but he stopped himself. "You didn't just fix the item, kid, you fused the monster’s speed with the weapon’s glitch, you made something completely new."

Before Julian could reply, the door to the workshop burst open, Lyra ran inside, her face was pale, and her golden Sentinel shield was already activated, glowing brightly around her body.

"Julian, we have a problem," she said quickly, "The village gate is opening, a group of players just arrived from the upper floors, they are not survivors from our sector," Julian frowned, slipping the new Static-Lag Dagger into his belt loop, "Who are they?".

"They are wearing white armor with tiger insignias," Lyra said, her hand gripping her sword handle tightly, "It is the White Tiger Guild, they are checking everyone's status screens, they are looking for the anomaly that triggered the server patch."

Julian’s mind went into analysis mode, the White Tiger Guild was the largest faction in the mid-tier floors, in the original timeline, they were ruthless, they took over safe zones, stole resources from weak players, and forced everyone to follow their strict rules, they must have detected the sudden Server Patch 1.1 from their high-level hubs and sent a scout team down to investigate Floor 1.

"They cannot find you, Julian," Malakai warned, his pixelated arm glitching with red sparks, "If the guild tycoons find out you can manipulate raw code and trigger timeline loops, they will lock you in a cage and use you as a human resource forever," "I am not going into a cage," Julian said calmly, his high Perception allowed him to stay perfectly relaxed, "Lyra, how many scouts did they send?".

"Three," Lyra replied, "Two high-level guards and one Team Leader, the leader is a Level 5 Mage, his stats are much higher than ours," Julian stood up from his plastic crate, he checked his status menu, he was Level 2, lyra was Level 2, the enemies were Level 5, in a normal physical fight, Julian and Lyra would lose in seconds.

But Julian looked down at the dark glass blade at his waist, he looked at the glowing geometric floor tiles under his feet,"A Level 5 Mage relies on casting speed and movement rules," Julian said, a dangerous smile appearing on his face, "Let's go see how well he plays when his connection to reality starts to lag."
