Chapter 5

Still no one.

Alexander pushed the door open directly.

Inside, the room was neat and bright. The warm yellow bedding set was neatly folded on the bed, looking nothing like someone had slept in it.

In an instant, Alexander narrowed his eyes.

Lila didn't stay home last night?

Alexander wanted to call and find her, but when he took out his phone, he realized he didn't even have Lila's phone number.

This Lila was really looking for trouble.

Going back downstairs to the car, Alexander looked at Charlie, "Lila's information. Did you look into it?"

"All checked, Mr. Sinclair."

"Send it over."

Charlie responded and immediately sent it to his email.

Alexander didn't bother with the other details. He went straight to the phone number and dialed it.

Listening to the ringtone, he was already prepared to give a good interrogation to this Lila who dared to run away overnight. But unexpectedly, before even two bars of the ringtone melody finished playing, the call was hung up.

Anger immediately appeared on Alexander's face.

How dare she hang up on him?

In the front driver's seat, Charlie saw Mr. Sinclair's expression and became nervous himself.

Mr. Sinclair had never been hung up on by anyone before. Mrs. Sinclair just made history today!

Unexpected, totally unexpected.

In a rental apartment.

Lila and Elara were lying on the bed browsing job websites and submitting resumes.

A phone ringtone went off.

Lila picked up her phone. Elara casually asked, "Who's calling you?"

"No name saved, unknown number."

"Just hang up then, probably some sales call."

Lila nodded in agreement, "I think so too."

With that, she hung up without hesitation, "Elara, what kind of job are you looking for?"

Elara smiled, "I want to find one where the boss is pretty good-looking. That way, even if I'm getting worked to death every day, at least I can look at a handsome face and have some consolation, right?"

"What if your boss is a woman?"

"Then I hope she's beautiful too. That way I can learn about fashion and workplace survival skills from her. Looking for a job, it's all equal opportunity. I'm not picky."

Lila leaned on her shoulder, "I'm not picky either. As long as the salary can support me, that's enough."

"That's easy. You're living in Alexander's villa now, so at least you don't have to pay rent."

"True."

Just as she finished speaking, Alexander's phone rang again.

This time it was Gaia calling.

Lila made a shushing gesture to Elara and quickly answered, "Grandma, what's up?"

"Lila, Alex just called you. Did you not answer?"

Alex, Alex?

Alexander?

After figuring out who Alex was, Lila looked horrified, "Grandma, I didn't know that was his number. I'll call him back right now."

"Okay, don't be nervous. Grandma just wants him to bring you home for lunch to meet the family."

"Okay, Grandma."

After hanging up, she muttered while looking for that rejected number, "Oh no, oh no, that was Alexander calling me. He must be mad that I didn't answer!"

"What's there to be mad about?" Elara asked.

"You don't know. He doesn't like me."

As soon as Lila finished speaking, the call connected. She quickly signaled Elara to be quiet, then put on a smile, "Mr. Sinclair, it's me, Grace..."

Before she could finish, Alexander's cold, displeased voice came through, "Where are you?"

"I'm at... oh, I just heard from Grandma that we're going home for a meal. Send me the address and I'll head over now."

"I asked where you are."

Lila frowned. This man's tone was terrible, wasn't it?

She rolled her eyes, but kept her voice gentle, "I'm at 11119 Pearl Street. Why?"
