Chapter 3 Pregnancy Exposed

Sophia returned home in a daze.

Her mind was completely blank, and she had no idea how to handle this pregnancy.

She sat on the couch, staring into space, unaware that Zachary was watching her from upstairs—a sight that only fueled his rage further.

Sophia had grown up in his world all these years, and he had been the only man in her life. Now she had not only cheated on him but dared to carry another man's child!

Zachary pulled out his phone and typed rapidly, sending a message to his assistant.

[Investigate Sophia's recent activities. Find out who she's been in contact with. I want every single detail.]

The doctor had confirmed she was one month pregnant, which meant it had happened during that timeframe.

Sophia had no idea what Zachary was planning. She took a deep breath and tried to organize her thoughts.

This was her child, and she needed to take responsibility for it.

Sophia retrieved the signed divorce papers from the drawer and knocked on the study door.

Zachary was handling some documents.

Her beautiful eyes, now lifeless as stagnant water, spoke with utter exhaustion. "Sign these. We have time today to finalize everything at the courthouse."

At those words, Zachary's pen paused, the pressure so intense that it nearly tore through the paper and caused his name to take an unnatural twist.

"Apparently, you've already forgotten everything I said to you at the hospital," Zachary said without looking up.

"I'll handle Dylan. Even if you don't sign today, I'm moving out of here."

Sophia attributed Zachary's fury to her supposed betrayal.

After all, Zachary had lived a charmed life since childhood—no one had ever dared defy him.

Even though she was the victim, she had indeed disgraced him.

She thought with bitter irony that they were even now—both had been unfaithful to their marriage. Why maintain this facade of a relationship that only made them both sick?

Zachary had never wanted to marry her in the first place.

Now he would despise her even more.

Zachary's piercing gaze locked onto Sophia.

"What's so special about that man that you'd risk everything to be with him? Are you planning to take the child and run off to reunite with him?"

Sophia didn't want to respond to these accusations anymore.

She looked at him and spoke calmly, "We're both betrayers of this marriage. There's no point in blaming each other."

Zachary snapped his pen in half.

"Paula and I are ancient history, Sophia. How long are you going to keep this up? My patience has limits. If you're willing to get rid of this child, I'll pretend none of this ever happened."

Zachary used every ounce of his remaining rationality to suppress his anger—this was his biggest concession.

Sophia felt her heart grow colder with each word.

Who had asked for the divorce first? Who had betrayed this marriage first?

Yet he claimed that it was she who was keeping this up.

Sophia was utterly exhausted. "There's no point discussing this anymore; this marriage has to end."

She had chased after Zachary since childhood. All those years of pursuit, all the pain and struggle of trying to reach him, had left her battered and broken.

Even the most passionate love would eventually burn out without any response.

After delivering those words, Sophia turned and went back to her room.

Behind her came the sound of something being violently kicked over.

Sophia didn't care and didn't look back.

This house had been their wedding home. She had lived here for three years, and her traces were everywhere.

But there were virtually no signs of Zachary's presence, because in three years, he had hardly spent any time at home.

Sophia quickly packed her belongings. When she looked up, Zachary was standing in the doorway, his eyes covered with a layer of frost.

"So you've made up your mind? You'll risk everything for your true love?"

"Yes."

There was no way to explain, and even if she tried, he wouldn't believe her.

Sophia decided to go along with his assumption.

She suddenly remembered those romantic dramas she used to watch, where the male and female leads always refused to communicate openly, causing misunderstandings to deepen between them.

She used to wonder why they couldn't just talk it out, but now that she was in the same situation, she finally understood—some things simply couldn't be spoken aloud.

She looked up at Zachary and asked, "Remember our prenup? If either party wants to end the marriage, the other must agree."

The ironic part was that this clause had been Zachary's addition—he had planned, leaving himself an escape route so he could marry Paula.

Sophia wheeled her suitcase toward the door, but as she passed through, Zachary grabbed her wrist.

His eyes were full of obsession and danger.

"Are you so sure that bastard can support you and the child? Where will you go once you leave the Spencer family? Since you're the one asking for a divorce, you won't get a penny from me."

Sophia struggled to break free from his grip, speaking coldly, "My business is none of your concern. I have hands and an education. I can support myself."

"You!"

Zachary was rendered speechless with rage.

What man had brainwashed Sophia to make her so determined to leave?

Watching Sophia's cold attitude toward him, he felt an unexpected sense of helplessness. When exactly had the obedient Sophia disappeared?

Now there seemed to be an invisible barrier between them. Though she stood right in front of him, she felt as distant as if she were on the other side of the world.

Sophia gripped her suitcase handle tightly, trying to leave, but Zachary's body blocked the doorway completely, giving her no space to pass. The two stood in an awkward standoff, neither willing to yield an inch.

Zachary's expression was dark, and he was about to say something more when his phone suddenly rang.

It was Dylan calling.

From his tone, Dylan sounded like he was in an excellent mood.

"Zachary, are you and Sophia together right now? Why didn't you tell me about such wonderful news sooner?"

Since Sophia was right there, she naturally heard this, too. Both of them looked puzzled.

Wonderful news? What wonderful news!

Dylan couldn't see their shocked expressions and continued talking.

"Today, when our housekeeper took her daughter for her checkup, she saw you two at the hospital. If she hadn't told me, how long were you planning to keep this from me? Bring Sophia over right now—I want to announce this to the media!"

Both of their hearts sank simultaneously.

This was bad.

Not only had word reached Dylan, but he had completely misunderstood the situation!

If the pregnancy really became public knowledge, Sophia didn't dare think about what would happen next.
