Chapter 2 APPEASE THE SUPERMODEL
(Alden)
I didn't wait another second to hear what else she could say to me before I forced my feet to move.
I waved seamlessly through racks of clothes, searching for a dress I didn't even know the theme of.
Non of it still made sense.
Why was a supermodel, who had access to every possible clothing brand there was, her in our store ?
Even if she suddenly developed beef with all the other clothing brands, surely her brother wouldn't forsake her.
After all, it was part-her company too.
“For Godsakes!" Veronica screamed again before crashing into the nearest chair besides her.
An employee I recognized as Lana stood next to me searching the racks I had just previously checked.
I leaned closer to her, while we weren't friends she was never for once mean to me. Unlike other employees in this store, she was rather decent.
" Hey Lana, what's going on?”
She paused what she was doing to take a peep at Veronica, to check if she was watching us. When she confirmed she wasn't she pretended to search for a dress, busying her hand so she could talk to me.
“Solace empire can't deliver her a dress" she whispered, stopping her show by the racks to look at Veronica again before continuing.
“She has a showcase, apparently one of the most massive ones in her career and she just found out like an hour ago that her key opponent Gigi Bryant is wearing the exact same dress from her brother's company!”
Lana practically whisper yelled now, to get her point across.
I couldn't help the gasp that slipped my lips.
That's not good! If this showcase is really as big as it sounds, if she wears the same outfit as an opponent she'd be taken for a fraud. A joke even.
Her anger suddenly became clear.
" When's the showcase” I whisper back to Lana, mimicking her hands in false search.
She looked at her smart watch before looking back up at me " less than an hour, and she hasn't seen any dress that will wow the judges”
My eyes practically bulged out of my eyes.
I could do something about this. I've thought of a moment like this, where I am giving the opportunity to style a celebrity and what better moment is this?
I could do this!
It would be all I need to prove myself, to possibly get the job I've always wanted. And make a name for myself.
I just needed to swallow my nervousness and suggest my plan to her.
Except, each time I did that in an interview I was immediately turned down. What if she's no different? Heck what if this little stunt costs me my job?
I took in a gulp.
Lana and other employees kept searching and suggesting several outfits to Veronica, each one then she briefly examined before shaking her head in dislike.
I could feel my heart race in my chest. This could go so wrong, but k wouldn't know until I try.
My feet were heavy as I forced myself to walk to where she sat down with her long fingers resting on her delicate pale temple.
“Ma'am I have a suggestion” The whole room went so silent you could practically hear a pin drop, as I muttered carefully.
“You? Do you have any idea the kind of person you are trying to suggest something to? Zayn practically barked at me.
I stood tall even though his words made me flinch. I had worked here for at least eight months and I can boldly say not one person here has the kind of fashion tastes that Veronica is expecting, hence her disappointment. I was her best shot in here.
“Well? You have a suggestion, say it, I don't have time for these stupid games!" Veronica said her forest green eyes focused on me.
That was all I needed. I rushed from her presence towards the rack where we stored tube dresses and pulled out the one that would fit her best.
As I got closer, I could hear the snickering all around me and the judgemental gaze of the staff here.
" A tube dress? Are you trying to get her kicked off the runway?” a voice spoke out.
" That's what happens when you let poor people pick outfits" another voice followed.
Veronica crossed her hands and started down and me her jaw ticking in annoyance.
“Please try this on, I have an idea. I promise you won't regret it" I said, handing her the dress.
She gripped it tightly before leveling from her tall frame to look down at me.
“ I don't regret things. I take care of people that brought about that regret. And if I find out this was all just a waste of time. You can kiss your job goodbye. FOR GOOD!”
Then she turned and left for the changing room, with my heart in her grip.
