Chapter 4

As soon as Aria finished speaking, Arthur and Catherine's expressions changed instantly.

"Aria, are you out of your mind? He's just a criminal who just got out of prison!" Catherine was the first to cry out.

Arthur also spoke in a stern voice, "The only reason we had you marry him before was because you were in a coma and we had to find someone to take care of you. But now that you've recovered, there's no need for someone like him to stay by your side!"

Even the nanny beside them grabbed Aria's hand tightly, her eyes reddening with anxiety, "Ms. Rockefeller, your future should be bright and brilliant. If you stay with someone like this, you'll only fall into endless darkness. You absolutely can't!"

Watching everyone's completely different attitudes, Ethan just found it somewhat ridiculous.

In their eyes, Aria was a burden when she was in a coma, but now that she was awake, she had become the most precious heir.

But they had no idea that if he truly wanted to marry Aria, that would be the greatest honor for the entire Senna family—even something all of California would desperately wish for.

Chloe, on the other hand, had a flash of unusual excitement in her eyes.

"Dad, Mom, I actually think Aria has really fallen for him," she said with a deliberate light laugh. "If that's the case, why can't we make them happy? Besides, if we back out now, people might laugh at the Senna family for going back on our word."

As she spoke, she kept giving Jack meaningful looks, hoping he would back her up.

But Jack acted as if he hadn't seen anything at all.

In fact, his greedy eyes had been fixed on Aria the entire time.

Whether it was her looks, temperament, or family background, Aria far surpassed Chloe. Standing together, Chloe even seemed somewhat laughable.

Of course Jack didn't want Aria to actually marry Ethan.

As long as the wedding was canceled, he still had a chance.

Jack stroked his chin, pretending to hesitate, "Ethan really isn't good enough for Aria."

Chloe's expression immediately froze, her nails nearly digging into her palms.

She had originally wanted to use today to thoroughly humiliate Aria and Ethan, but she never expected things to turn out this way.

Arthur's face suddenly darkened, "Enough! I'm the head of the Senna family, and I declare that this engagement is void from now on!"

The old priest nearby let out a soft sigh and slowly bowed his head.

"Such blindness..." He closed his eyes in prayer, his face full of devotion, "May God forgive these ignorant people."

Catherine stepped forward to grab Aria, "Aria, come with us!"

But Aria gently shook off her hand.

She raised those blue eyes of hers, her voice weak but unusually firm, "I already told you. I'm willing to marry him. Marriage is my freedom, and you have no right to decide for me."

"You!" Catherine's face turned pale with anger.

Arthur also said angrily, "Aria! Are you trying to make us die of anger? Everything we just did was for your own good! A bottom-feeder criminal who just got out of prison is nowhere near good enough for you!"

At this point, he cast a cold glance at Ethan, "Don't worry, I'll give you a sum of money. Take the money and leave Aria immediately, and never appear again."

Hearing this, Ethan couldn't help but laugh.

"Money?"

Money was the last thing he needed right now.

The wealth in that Seraphim Black Card was enough to buy an entire small country.

Arthur had no idea what kind of person he was dealing with.

Arthur walked toward Aria furiously, "Alright, this matter is not up for discussion!"

But just then, Ethan suddenly narrowed his eyes slightly.

Using his Draconic Sight, he could clearly see the changes inside Arthur's body.

Arthur's heart rate was skyrocketing, his brain's blood circulation was becoming chaotic, and there were even faint signs of it stopping.

"Mr. Senna," Ethan suddenly said calmly, "perhaps I should call you father now. But I advise you not to continue getting angry, or it will be very dangerous."

Arthur immediately flew into a rage.

He pointed at Ethan and roared, "Shut up! Who's your father! And my body is perfectly fine. I don't need fake concern from someone like you—"

Before he could finish, his expression suddenly changed.

The next second, Arthur clutched his chest violently, his whole body shaking intensely.

In just a few seconds, he collapsed heavily to the ground.

"Arthur!"

"Father!"

The entire church instantly descended into chaos.

Arthur was already having difficulty breathing, his face rapidly turning purple, and he even briefly lost consciousness.

"What are you all standing around for? Get him to the hospital!" Catherine screamed.

Half an hour later.

Braun Hospital.

This was one of the most elite private hospitals in all of California. Those who could receive treatment here were either rich or powerful. Besides the staggering financial verification standards, one also had to donate large amounts of money or advanced medical equipment to the hospital to qualify as a patient.

The reason Braun Hospital was famous throughout high society was because of one name.

Von Krey.

Recognized by the international medical community as a top genius, only in his forties but already having won over a dozen international awards, with a patient cure rate as high as 98%.

Countless wealthy people from abroad even flew specifically to California just to have him treat them personally.

Arthur was quickly wheeled into the advanced care unit.

Ethan slowly walked to the bedside.

Others might not be able to tell, but he knew very clearly that Arthur's real problem was deep inside his skull.

With current medical technology, it was impossible to cure.

If he didn't intervene, Arthur had at most ten more minutes to live.

No matter what, Arthur was Aria's nominal father in the future. For both emotional and practical reasons, he couldn't just stand by and do nothing.

But just as Ethan was about to reach out, an icy angry shout suddenly came from behind.

"Stop!"

The next second, a middle-aged man in a white coat rushed in and shoved Ethan aside forcefully.

It was Von Krey.

Von Krey's gaze was icy, his tone full of overbearing pressure, "Who gave you permission to touch my patient? Get out immediately!"

Ethan's expression remained calm, "I'm trying to save him."

Von Krey looked as if he'd heard a joke, staring at him coldly, "Save him? What are you to talk about saving people in front of me?"

Catherine immediately rushed forward, "Dr. Krey, don't be angry! He's just a criminal who just got out of prison. He doesn't understand anything!"

Chloe also immediately joined in the mockery, "You really think that just because you recited a few prayers earlier, you're a miracle doctor now? Aria waking up was just luck. A waste like you isn't worth a single finger of Dr. Krey's!"

"Exactly!" Several others chimed in. "Dr. Krey already told you to get lost. What are you still standing here for?"

Aria gently tugged at Ethan's arm, "Wait for me outside."

Ethan glanced at her and suddenly smiled faintly, "You'll regret your choice. Of course, regret comes with a price."

With that, he turned and left the hospital room.

Catherine watched his retreating figure with disgust all over her face, "Aria, you should see clearly now, right? This kind of man not only has no ability, but he also likes to brag. I think he stayed in prison so long his brain got messed up! After Dr. Krey cures your father, you must break off the engagement with him immediately, understand?"

Aria frowned slightly.

Although she didn't say anything, somehow she kept feeling that Ethan's words just now didn't seem like empty threats.

Meanwhile, Von Krey had already raised his hand, "Prepare for surgery."

At his command, several nurses immediately wheeled various pieces of the most advanced medical equipment into the room.
