Chapter 2

The church was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Ethan stood frozen in place, staring hard at the girl in the wheelchair.

That delicate, pale face gradually overlapped with a figure from his memory.

Seven years ago.

He had just graduated from college.

Poor, unemployed, hitting walls everywhere.

He had sent out countless resumes but couldn't find a job.

He was even kicked out of his apartment because he couldn't pay rent.

During that time, Ethan lived like a stray dog, but he didn't give up because his college girlfriend Chloe was still encouraging him, and she was his only support.

At that time, he happened to run into Aria doing charity work in the slums, handing out supplies.

Starving, Ethan waited in line and got some relief supplies, but hadn't expected to be targeted by two homeless men from the slums. They not only stole his food but beat him up too.

Those two homeless men weren't planning to let him go either.

They dragged Ethan toward the depths of the park, ready to satisfy their twisted desires.

Ethan would never forget that despair.

Cold, suffocating. Like sinking into the deep sea.

And right then.

A cool voice suddenly rang out.

"Let him go."

Ethan struggled to lift his head.

A girl in a white dress was standing there.

She was holding a silver handgun.

The girl's skin was almost translucently pale.

Those blue eyes were as beautiful as the starry sky.

Even after seven years.

Ethan still remembered how she had looked then.

Like a real angel.

Those two homeless men saw the gun and immediately ran away in fear.

Then the girl slowly crouched down in front of Ethan, "You're hurt."

Her voice was very soft.

But it gave Ethan, who was on the verge of breaking down, warmth for the first time.

Later she brought Ethan home.

She treated his wounds.

She changed him into clean clothes.

She even cooked dinner herself.

That was the best meal Ethan had ever eaten in his life.

Because that meal contained respect, kindness, and warmth.

And that girl was Aria.

Ethan had never imagined that meeting again, she would be like this.

Sitting in a wheelchair.

Like a sleeping doll, without any sign of life.

Chloe's mocking voice suddenly rang out, "What? So happy to see your bride?"

She walked over in high heels, wearing an expensive dress, like a proud peacock.

"A vegetable and a criminal. You two are perfect for each other."

Laughter immediately erupted around them.

"They really are a match!"

"This wedding is so interesting!"

"A vegetable marrying a just-released convict. The Senna family really knows how to have fun!"

Ethan's gaze was ice-cold.

But he didn't bother with these people.

Because right now, all his attention was on Aria.

While the church crowd was laughing.

From the back of the church, a middle-aged couple slowly walked out.

The man had his hair combed perfectly and wore a deep gray custom suit, his presence imposing.

The woman wore expensive jewelry, looking arrogant.

They were the current heads of the Senna family, Arthur Senna and his wife Catherine Senna.

Seeing them appear, many guests immediately showed respect and greeted them.

"Mr. Senna."

"Mrs. Senna."

Arthur just nodded slightly.

Then his gaze fell on Aria in the wheelchair.

There wasn't much family affection in that look, more like he was looking at a troublesome commodity.

Catherine frowned, "Let's finish the ceremony quickly. Making so many people waste time with a vegetable is really inappropriate."

The nanny's eyes immediately turned red.

"Sir! Madam! Ms. Rockefeller is your daughter too!"

Catherine's face immediately turned cold, "You're just a nanny. How dare you speak up? These years taking care of her, the family has already wasted enough resources. Arranging a marriage for her now is more than generous."

Arthur looked at Ethan, "Young man. Although you have a criminal record, as long as you marry into the Senna family, you won't lack money in the future. Take good care of Aria. We won't treat you badly."

He spoke as if granting a favor.

As if Ethan being able to enter the Senna family was already a great honor.

Just then, a frivolous voice suddenly came from beside Arthur.

Jack walked out with a cigarette in his mouth, "You're out of prison?"

He wore an expensive suit, his blonde hair combed perfectly.

He looked like a typical upper-class rich kid.

And seeing this face.

The coldness in Ethan's eyes deepened.

Because seven years ago.

It was this Jack who had destroyed his life.

Back then, Ethan was still deeply in love with Chloe.

He thought he had finally found true love.

Until later he found out.

So-called love was just a joke.

Chloe had approached him from the beginning to satisfy Jack's twisted pleasure.

Jack liked watching people fall from heaven to hell.

So he had Chloe play with Ethan's feelings, then destroy him with her own hands.

Thinking of this, a trace of coldness flashed in Ethan's eyes.

Jack slowly exhaled smoke, then deliberately blew it toward Ethan, "How was prison life? But you're pretty lucky. Just got out and already got a pretty wife for free. Although she's a vegetable, at least she's got a nice face, right?"

Laughter erupted around them again.

Chloe even leaned into Jack's arms.

She deliberately kissed Jack.

Then looked at Ethan, "Ethan, you should actually thank us. If it wasn't for Jack, someone from the bottom like you would never have had the chance to enter the Senna family in your lifetime. Now we're letting you marry in. What are you still unhappy about?"

While Jack was mocking him.

Ethan's fists clenched slightly.

The scenes from seven years ago appeared again.

The cold police car.

False testimony in court.

Chloe's cold eyes.

And the sound of the prison door closing.

That moment.

Ethan truly felt murderous intent for the first time.

"The Senna family? You really think you're so noble?"

Chloe's face darkened. "What do you mean?"

But Ethan didn't continue dealing with her.

Instead, he slowly walked toward Aria.

As the distance closed.

The holy mark on his chest began to burn hotter and hotter.

Arielle had once told him.

The archangel bloodline had natural purification and healing power.

Especially toward those near death.

Ethan looked down at Aria.

Her face was pale as fragile porcelain.

Her breathing was so weak it was almost undetectable.

As if she could die at any moment.

And at this moment.

Ethan suddenly remembered the dragon holy water Arielle had given him.

Before leaving prison.

Arielle had seriously told him, "If in the future you meet someone you truly want to save, use it."

Ethan slowly took out the crystal bottle from his chest.

The pale golden liquid inside flowed under the light.

Like liquid gold.

The nanny beside him immediately panicked.

"What are you trying to do?! Don't touch Ms. Rockefeller!"

Ethan spoke calmly, "I can save her."

One sentence.

The guests in the room were first taken aback.

Then burst into laughter.

"What did he say?"

"A criminal actually says he can cure people?"

"Even the top doctors in the country couldn't do anything!"

"This guy went crazy in prison, didn't he?"

Chloe laughed so hard tears almost came out, "Ethan, when did you start believing in religion? Don't tell me you joined some cult in prison?"

Jack also looked completely mocking, "Looks like serving time on that deep-sea platform broke your brain."

Ethan still didn't respond.

He just slowly lowered his head.

He gently placed a drop of dragon holy water on Aria's forehead.

The next second.

He closed his eyes.

He whispered an ancient prayer.

It wasn't any modern language.

But an ethereal, sacred language that seemed to come from ancient times.

The moment the sound rang out.

The air in the entire church seemed to change.

The old priest's face suddenly turned deathly pale.

He stared hard at Ethan.

As if seeing something unbelievable.

"This is impossible... This language... should have been lost long ago..."

The next second.

Something that made everyone's scalp tingle happened.

The old priest actually knelt down directly toward Ethan!

"Oh God! This is the language of angels! This is the lost sacred prayer!"

The entire church fell into complete silence.
