Chapter 9
Denise sat with the leaders and elders of the pack in Lucian's living room. They had convened to talk about the prophecy, an old foretelling that the pack was in grave danger. Denise accepted a battered, leather-bound book from Lucian.
He stated, "This is the prophecy," with solemn eyes. "It's been passed down through generations of our pack's leaders." A musty odor rose when Denise opened the book. The writing were clear, but the pages were crackling and yellowed. According to Denise, "A great darkness shall descend upon the pack," reading out loud. "Everything we value will be in danger of being destroyed by an internal threat. But do not be alarmed; there will be a savior.
A child that is descended from us will have the ability to save us all. When Denise finished reading, the room became quiet. When she looked up, the leaders of the pack were looking at her with a mixture of fear and hope in their eyes. "What does it mean?" Anxiety gripped Denise as she questioned. Lucian fixed her with his gaze. "It indicates that the savior mentioned in the prophesy is you, Denise.
The only person who can protect our pack from the impending danger is you. The weight of Lucian's comments caused Denise's mind to reel. Was she the rescuer? However, how? She could hardly control her powers because she was only a teenager. Denise glanced around the room and noticed the leaders of the pack nodding their heads in agreement. She wasn't so sure, but they had faith in her.
A huge boom reverberated from outside as Denise was ready to ask another question. As the leaders of the pack exchanged anxious looks, the room became quiet. "What was that?" Her heart pounding, Denise asked. Lucian's gaze grew strained. "I don't know, but I think it's the start of something big." Denise's spine tingled as the leaders of the pack hurried to look into the commotion. She sensed that the big threat mentioned in the prophecy was closer than they had believed.
A figure, gasping for air, suddenly rushed into the room. "It's the rogue pack," the figure cried out. "They're attacking us!" As the leaders of the pack hurried to protect their territory, the room burst into turmoil. As Denise became aware that the prophecy was coming to pass in front of her, her heart began to race.
Lucian was already changing into his wolf form as she glanced at him. "What do I do?" Panic gripped Denise as she asked. Lucian fixed her with his gaze. Growling, "You fight," he said. "You protect our pack, and you fulfill the prophecy." Denise was left to confront the threat as Lucian stormed out of the room. She inhaled deeply, mustering all her power and bravery. It was time to save the pack and fulfill the prophecy.
However, Denise couldn't get rid of the uneasy sensation she had as she charged into fight. The renegade pack appeared to be too well-organized and powerful. And why did they attack the pack in the first place? The conflict would continue, so Denise's inquiries would have to wait.
However, she was aware that she would soon have to face the reality. It was crucial to the pack's destiny. A sea of growling wolves greeted Denise as she plunged into fight. The rogue pack appeared to be everywhere and was enormous. As Denise attempted to keep up with the furious tempo of the fight, her heart thumped in her chest. As he repelled a pack of renegade wolves, she caught sight of Lucian in the middle of the confusion, his gaze fixed on hers. With a rush of energy, Denise ran to his side, claws out and ready to attack. They fiercely battled together, eliminating one rogue wolf after another. However, the renegade pack appeared to be gaining momentum in spite of their best attempts. Denise realized they couldn't do this for much longer since she could sense the pack's vitality ebbing.
A party of reinforcements led by Denise's parents showed up just when it looked like there was no hope left. After weeks of pursuing the renegade pack, they had at last located them. The rogue pack was soon in full retreat as the tide of the battle shifted in their favor. Standing triumphant, their chests heaving with fatigue, were Denise and Lucian. Denise, however, couldn't get rid of the feeling that something wasn't quite right while they caught their breath. The renegade pack had appeared overly planned and methodical.
And why did they attack the pack in the first place? Denise turned to Lucian and met his gaze. Her voice was hardly audible above a whisper when she said, "What's going on?" "This wasn't just a random attack, was it?" Lucian's face was serious. His response was, "I don't think so," "I believe that something more significant is involved here. Something that puts our pack's survival in jeopardy." As Denise took in Lucian's remarks, her heart skipped a beat. What might be large enough to pose a threat to the whole pack? She was about to ask another query when someone stepped out of the darkness.
The tall, commanding woman had eyes that appeared to pierce Denise's spirit. She said, "Welcome, Denise," in a voice full of hate. "I had been anticipating your arrival. You're just in time to see the finale just getting started.
Denise narrowed her eyes, trying to take in what the woman had said. What did she want, and who was she? Denise felt a strange feeling flow over her as the woman raised her hand before she could ask any inquiries. Denise felt as though she was being drawn into a gloomy and ominous world as everything turned black.
When Denise regained consciousness, she was in an unfamiliar, poorly lit room. Except for the woman standing in the corner and observing her, she was by herself. "Where am I?" Trying to maintain a steady tone, Denise demanded. The woman grinned, amusement glimmering in her eyes. "You're in a place where you'll be safe," she added. "At least, for now." Denise narrowed her eyes, trying to take in what the woman had said. What was she trying to say? What was her desire for Denise? Denise was left alone and terrified in the dark when the woman turned and vanished into the darkness before she could ask any more questions.
Denise sat in the dark, trying to figure out what was going on. What did this enigmatic woman want with her, and who was she? Abruptly, Denise heard footsteps outside the room reverberating. A person crept inside as the door cracked open. Lucian was the one.
Whispering, "Denise, I'm so glad I found you," he hurried over to her. Denise's heart jumped with delight, but she soon became aware that something was wrong. Lucian's countenance was contorted, and his eyes were odd. "What's going on, Lucian?" Trying to maintain a steady tone, Denise asked. Denise felt a chill go down her spine as Lucian's eyes met hers.
His voice was low and husky as he replied, "I've been looking for you everywhere." "I need to tell you something." As Lucian's face approached Denise's, her heart thumped in her chest. Her senses went into overdrive as she felt his warm breath on her skin.
However, Denise felt a sharp shock of electricity as Lucian's lips were ready to meet hers. She landed hard on the floor after being flung backward. Denise noticed a flicker of wrath in Lucian's eyes as she looked up. She was surprised, however, not by Lucian's rage, but rather by the bright yellow glow in his eyes. "Lucian, what's happening to you?" Denise scrambled to her feet and shouted. Lucian, however, remained silent. Rather, his body started to twist and twitch, and he screamed fearfully. As Lucian changed into a hideous beast with a mess of fur and claws, Denise looked in fear.
The former Lucian's jaws snapped fiercely as it pounced at Denise. In order to protect herself, Denise raised her hands and used all of her strength. However, Denise noticed something that made her heart skip a beat as she gazed into the creature's eyes. There seemed to be a spark of humanity trapped beneath the surface, a flicker of recognition. "Lucian, is that you?" Fear shook Denise's voice as she whispered.
The creature hesitated, staring into Denise's eyes. Denise briefly believed she caught a glimpse of Lucian's character, a glimpse of the boy she had fallen in love with. It was only a moment, though. The beast surged at Denise with fresh intensity as its eyes flared yellow again. Ready to defend herself, Denise held up her hands. She knew she couldn't bring herself to harm the creature, though, as she gazed into its eyes. I mean, it was Lucian.
Her beloved boy. Denise realized she was doomed when the creature's fangs sank in on her. Denise felt a wave of resignation pass over her as the creature's jaws closed in around her. She had attempted self-defense, but it appeared to be too late. But a dazzling light flooded the room as the creature's jaws were about to pierce her flesh. The animal yelled in agony and flinched away, shielding its eyes. Denise jumped up and sprinted toward the door, using the confusion to her advantage.
Breathing heavily, she exploded from the room into the intense sunlight. She noticed the creature, Lucian, staggering out into the sunlight with his eyes still covered as she turned to face the structure. Denise experienced a twinge of remorse and sadness. Lucian, what had happened? How was she going to save him? She was ready to return inside and attempt to assist Lucian when a stranger materialized next to her. The enigmatic woman was the one who had abducted her.
The woman remarked, "Well done, Denise," with a cunning smirk on her face. "You've passed the test." Denise's gaze grew strained. Which test? What's happening? The woman laughed. "You'll learn the truth in due time. Let's just assume that you're one step closer to realizing your destiny for the time being. Anger flashed in Denise's eyes. "What fate? You're not logical at all." The woman smiled more broadly. Yes, but I am. Denise, you see, you're not your typical werewolf.
The secret to releasing an age-old power is within you. A force that will permanently alter the path of history. Denise struggled to comprehend what the woman had said. Which ancient power? What connection did it have to her? Denise was left staring at the empty space in astonishment as the woman disappeared into thin air before she could ask any inquiries.
Denise heard a faint murmuring in her ear as she stood there, attempting to process what had just transpired. She shivered when she recognized Lucian's voice. It said, "Denise," in a whisper. "I apologize. I'm so sorry. I had no intention of hurting you. When Denise realized that Lucian was still out there, somewhere, her heart skipped a beat. And danger still hung over him. Denise set out to find Lucian and learn the truth about the ancient power and her destiny with a renewed sense of resolve.
However, she couldn't get rid of the sensation that she was being watched as she left the building. She then noticed a man standing in the shadows as she rounded the corner. She was too familiar with the figure. Her mother was the one. However, she had a distinct quality. There was something that chilled Denise's blood. Her mother had yellowed her eyes. similar to Lucian's.
Her mother's body started to twist and writhe, her limbs growing into claws as Denise gazed in horror. Denise's mom had lost her humanity. She was a werewolf. She was on her way to get Denise.
