Chapter Three
Iris’ POV
I pulled my ears off the wall, allowing my body to slide onto the ground. The moongoddess had to have a weird sense of humor because how could she make my mate come from the Blue Moon Pack, and the Alpha at that?
I headed out of the courtyard, the name I'd just heard replaying in my head.
The same Blue Moon Pack whose name I slept with scribbled above my bed.
I felt the hate coursing through me, fighting hard against the mate bond.
“Hey, I have been looking all over for you.” Sharon suddenly cut off the torture I was planning in my head.
“He looks so damn edible,” She sighed dreamily, her cheeks as red as a rose petal from blushing. “And did you see him staring at me?”
“Yeah,” I replied, sarcasm dripping from my tone. “He totally couldn’t look away. A hundred percent fixated on you.”
This conversation was torture in itself but I couldn't do anything but endure through it.
“Right!” Sharon responded giddily. “I am willing to bet that on his way out, he is going to come right here and ask for my contact.” “Can't wait to have a wolf boyfriend, I bet he's wild in bed!” she gushed.
My wolf bared her teeth in my head.
“Shar–”
"I think I need to go to the spa,” she cut me off, “Probably get a new dress, too. Oh my god! My house is in such a mess."
For someone so good at kicking people’s butts, Sharon sure surprised me with how soft she became when a man was involved.
“You know what?” I began, taking the bottle of water she held. “I think I am gonna head home now”
I noticed how she dropped that water and began adjusting herself then I noticed a pair of well-polished shoes stopped in front of me as I rose back up.
Unable to stop myself, I inhaled his scent. It was so strong from up close that I felt dizzy.
But it seemed I was the only one feeling the mate bond as his next words came out with a lot of contempt
“We need to talk.”
I looked up at the younger version of the face that haunted my nightmares. The face I promised myself I would only find peace when I’d finally feel the relish of my blade going through his flesh over and over again until all light bled out of his eyes.
But this wasn't the time or place, I forced the anger in, and looked into his eyes.
But I quickly looked away; I hated how my body was so eager to betray me. I was full of vile hatred for the son of the man who ruined my life one more moment, and the next, I wanted to merge my body and soul with his.
“Do we know each other?” I asked, feigning ignorance.
As much as my wolf yearned for him to see her and claim her, he couldn't.
I'd blocked that part of me and all he was seeing was a human who was unable to take her eyes off him.
“You don't need to know me,” he replied in that gravelly voice of his, that showed he was also keeping himself at bay, strangling the overwhelming emotions running rampant between us.
Then he grabbed my hand, making the water bottle fall off and began walking towards the place I'd just come out from. “Come this way.”
Even though I wasn't a fan of taking orders from anyone, his words made me want to curl up and obey his every command.
Aunty Lysandra was right, the mate bond is nothing but a pile of trouble.
“Don't talk to me like a petulant child,” I snapped, pulling my hand away from his.
Like a guilty pleasure, I relished in the way his eyes expressed shock at my reaction.
Our eyes met again, and the whole world disappeared, leaving just the two of us fighting a battle against the bond.
He lifted his hand and slowly moved to one lock of hair that had escaped my hair band. The second his skin touched mine in the faintest of touches, it was like I was being zapped in the most erotic way possible.
I melted into his space, losing the control I'd spent years honing.
He wasn't even trying and yet, there I was, losing every bit of training I'd gained.
“Fine Firecracker,” he breathed, moving a step away and the world appeared again, “after you. We have much to discuss and I have very little time.”
My mouth had lost its ability to function after that moment so I walked ahead of him, straight to where I had hidden earlier.
“So that was you earlier,” he smirked, “I could have sworn someone was doing what they weren't supposed to be doing.”
Oh well, it's been eight years of me listening in on the Mayor's meetings. It's not so bad if I got caught just once.
“There's no part of this establishment that's out of bounds to me, so I wasn't doing anything wrong.”
“Hm. I'm sure the Mayor would love to know that his David fighter doesn't understand the concept of privacy,” he replied, that annoying, yet sexy smirk never leaving his face.
He was enjoying this. Making me squirm.
“You won't do that… Will you?”
That was the first sign of fear I felt and I foolishly let him see it.
“Don't worry, I have better things to do.”
“Well, I do too, so tell me why you dragged me away from training. I'm not interested in joining any wolf pack only to be used as cannon fodder in your petty wars.”
He frowned but shook his head as if throwing away the thought that came to his mind.
“You didn’t feel anything when I walked in, did you?”
"Feel what?" I angled my head, feigning confusion.
“Never mind,” he murmured, squaring his shoulders. “It doesn't matter anyway.”
The last part was said under his breath with a pain I understood all too well.
It was the pain that before either of us could grow enough for this bond to mean anything, his father had destroyed every possibility of us.
I added that to the list of things Alpha night and his entire pack would pay for.
Including the annoyingly handsome man breathing my air as we stood under that window.
"My friend likes you, you know?" I whispered, getting into character even though it felt like I was stabbing myself all over. I didn't need him to suspect anything. "You were staring at her when you walked in. Is this about her? Do you need her number?"
“Pftt.” He scoffed and I forced myself not to smile even though it was tearing at my cheeks. “You know how wolves are. We mate for life, you do know that, right?”
“I don't spend my time studying about your species. We humans have enough problems of our own, you know?”
“Well, that will make this easier,” he grunted, taking a painful step backward. “What is your full name?”
“What?” I gasped.
Somehow , I knew what was coming but I wasn't ready for it.
“Duty forbids me from mating with a human. Not only will you give me weak pups but you'll never be strong enough to lead a pack as powerful as mine. The Blue Moon Pack deserves a better and stronger Luna. So tell me your full name Miss Iris.”
