Chapter 4 Only You Can Do It

Laura's entire body trembled, then she quickly put on an expression of sudden shock and distress.

Pretending not to notice the scattered beads on the floor, she deliberately stepped on one and stumbled toward Charles.

Charles had just raised his hand when Laura fell gracefully into his arms.

She lifted her head slightly, her eyes already red-rimmed, speaking in a pitiful voice, "Charles, I was just begging Zoey to save Celeste. Not only did she refuse, but she also humiliated me and got physical with me. When I tried to get away, I accidentally broke her bracelet."

Laura's voice choked with emotion, and combined with the hurt expression on her face, she painted herself as a helpless victim.

Watching the coral beads scattered across the floor and listening to Laura's complete distortion of facts, Diana turned around and slapped her.

"Mrs. Windsor, if you cannot state facts accurately, you should keep your mouth shut."

Five years had completely transformed Diana.

Looking coldly at Laura, who was still cowering in Charles's arms and hadn't yet processed what had happened, a flash of hatred crossed Diana's eyes.

"You! Charles, she hit me!" Laura clutched her face, her voice agitated. She wanted to strike back but held herself in check because of Charles's presence.

She could only glare at Diana with resentment.

Charles frowned slightly, glancing up at Diana, his gaze lingering briefly on the corner of her eye.

Then he looked back down at Laura, helping her stand upright with his hands as he spoke in a low voice. "Stop making a scene. We have business to handle."

His tone was light but left no room for argument.

Laura had been by Charles's side long enough to read his moods perfectly.

She immediately suppressed her anger and reluctantly straightened up.

"Sorry, she didn't mean to break your bracelet," Charles said to Diana, raising his voice slightly.

He then turned to instruct his assistant, "Nathan, note the style and make sure to get Dr. Green an identical replacement bracelet."

Nathan quickly agreed.

Without waiting for Diana's response, Charles continued coldly, "Dr. Green, you must perform my grandmother's surgery. Whether it's money or any other requirements, name your terms. Whatever the Windsor family can provide, we will."

Diana let out a soft laugh.

Ignoring Charles's words, she bent down to collect the scattered beads one by one.

During the time she spent gathering the beads, the lounge fell completely silent.

Both Joseph and Nathan couldn't help but glance at Diana several times.

Joseph was secretly wiping sweat from his forehead—he really couldn't afford to offend anyone present.

If he could, he would have loved to accept on Zoey's behalf immediately.

He silently prayed in Zoey's direction several times before joining in collecting the beads.

Only after all the beads were gathered did Zoey look up at them. "Sorry, I can't perform the surgery."

Zoey's refusal again immediately gave Laura an outlet for her frustration.

"Zoey, don't act all high and mighty just because you have some skills. There are plenty of people more capable than you."

After berating Diana, Laura turned to Charles, speaking indignantly, "Charles, she's not the only good doctor out there. With such an arrogant personality, her medical skills probably aren't as good as the rumors claim."

"You can't trust everything you read online these days. Her abilities are probably exaggerated."

"Doctors like her with no real skill and questionable ethics should be blacklisted."

"Charles, let's consider this as a public service, exposing her fake reputation today."

Laura's non-stop chatter quickly branded Diana as a fraud.

Zoey remained completely unfazed.

Joseph, however, frowned in displeasure.

"Mrs. Windsor, Dr. Green's abilities are well-documented. Her surgical videos are used as teaching materials in medical schools."

Diana was the living advertisement he'd personally recruited at great expense.

The Windsor family might be elite, but Zoey was crucial to the hospital's survival.

For the sake of his hospital's reputation, Joseph spoke up despite Laura's murderous glare.

"You..." Laura was furious at being contradicted.

"Enough." Charles's stern voice cut her off. "Laura, apologize to Dr. Green. You shouldn't have questioned her medical skills."

He had watched all of Zoey's medical and surgical videos.

Though he wasn't in the medical field, he could clearly see from the footage that Zoey's abilities were extraordinary.

"Dr. Green, you will perform my grandmother's surgery, no matter what."

Charles stared directly at Zoey, his gaze unwavering.

"You can refuse, but you might not be able to handle the consequences."

"Try me if you don't believe it."

"After all," Charles's tone shifted, "Everyone has people they care about."

Since gentle persuasion wasn't working, Charles abandoned his diplomatic approach.

"Dr. Green, you're smart—you'll come around. Here's to hoping your surgery goes smoothly."

With his final word, Charles turned and left.

Laura snorted softly and followed close behind.

The lounge suddenly contained only Joseph and Diana.

Diana's expression was extremely grim.

Joseph looked equally troubled.

He sighed and was about to offer some advice when Diana spoke first, "I'm tired and need to rest."

Then, she turned and left.

Charles's words pressed down on Diana's heart like a boulder.

Her two children were her life.

Charles was never one to make empty threats.

He was ruthless.

Almost every negative trait could be applied to him.

Diana worried about Charles discovering the twins.

On her way back to the lounge, Diana couldn't stop trembling, sweat beading on her forehead.

Charles returned to his lounge with Laura, planning to ask why she had been there in the first place, but his attention was caught by something on the table.

Charles's eyes narrowed. "Nathan, who's been in this lounge?"

This was his private lounge—no one could enter without his permission.

Nathan, walking a few steps behind, felt his heart sink.

He quickly followed Charles's gaze and saw that the nameplate reading "Charles" now had "Big Meanie" written across it in neat, careful handwriting.

The other nameplate not only had writing but also featured drawings of two dogs.

Nathan immediately gasped.

What unlucky mischievous child had done this!

This was going to be the death of him!

Nathan wanted to cry as he carefully began: "It might have been some child who got lost and wandered into the wrong room..."

Charles shot him a look that immediately silenced him.

"I'll check the security footage right away."

With that, Nathan fled.

As expected, it really was children—not one child but two.

More coincidentally, they hadn't gotten lost—this was intentional.

Nathan could feel the oppressive atmosphere around him and didn't dare lift his head.

He was about to speak when he heard laughter, "I'm going to color in the little doggy, and then I'll..."

The voice cut off abruptly.

Daisy stood there with a paintbrush in one hand and pushing the door open with the other, her eyes wide with surprise.
