Sophia smiled bitterly to herself. More than a relief. Less than three hours ago, she'd had another close call with death.

“Yes, Officer Adams,” she replied calmly. “Is the driver still here?”

Renee nodded. "Yes, he'll be transferred to the detention center tomorrow."

Sophia asked, "Can I see him?"
