Chapter 3 A Locker full of firsts
It was the Morning of my first day of school. I was excited, it was the first time I have ever been to school. I was going in my sophomore year. I was in a way being held back even though my age should have put me in my junior year, but that was okay by me. More time in a way to experience normal teen things. The things I have been experiencing have been really cool. Some are better than the movies or TV shows. Others were way more annoying than I thought and was hopping, but hey, that is life, I guess. I tossed on my dark denim jeans combat boots and a white t-shirt. went into the kitchen and warmed myself up a couple of waffles. This is the one thing Normal teens have that in my situation will not ever have. I do not have anyone living with me, no parents, no family, no guardians, nothing. Just me myself and I. It was nice for the most part but coming home from a long day and not having anyone, no one to vent to, no one to let the steam off with. I think since faked my death and been alone, I have been feeling really pent up. Especially since I have not been able to train. So, I do not know what to do with myself anymore. I thought the diner would help me blow off steam but, in a way, it has, and in another, it has made it worse. I will probably have to join a sport or something so I can get some of this out. I headed out. Ready to start my day. It was my first day of school. Something I have daydreamed about for a long time, and it was finally here. The little shabby apartment I was placed in by the organization that helped me run also got me the papers I needed to start school without any of the staff raising questions. I have to be under the radar and blend in. The walk to the school is not that far, maybe like thirty minutes forty-five at most. I get there and parents are hugging kids goodbye and taking first-day pictures with family and friends. It is hard not to stare at them and feel the tiniest bit of jealousy.
“Well, hello there little mouse. See anything you like.” Ezra drawled behind. It was hard not to stand there and not roll my eyes at him.
“What do you want?” I asked all annoyed.
“Nothing... just feeling a bit curious.” He replied not bothered by my tone.
“Go bother someone else” I spat and walked off. Stuck up jerk. What was with him calling me little mouse? If he thinks I am someone who is prey for him to play with. He is wrong. No one at this school would prey on me. If they tried. They would soon learn their lesson, but I will have to be careful how I do it. Needing to stay under the radar and all that. I walk into the front office to drop off the rest of the paperwork they needed me to finish before they could give me my class.
“Here is my paperwork,” I said to the lady in the front office.
“Have a seat I will give you your class schedule in a minute.” She motioned for me to go sit down. As I was sitting and waiting a cute-looking girl sat next to me.
“Hello! You must be new! I’m Cindy!” She replied.
“Is it That obvious?” I asked with a smile on my face
“I know pretty much everyone here it is not often we get new people if we do, they are only seasonal, and they are gone by the time school rolls around,” Cindy said.
“Really? The dinner seemed to be busier right before school started” I asked surprised
“Oh, that is the townie dinner visitors go to the one on the edge of town by the water” Cindy smiled at me. I wondered if we would become friends. My first real friend ever.
“Elizabeth Hawks here’s your schedule.” the receptionist said as she handed me my paper. I stood there looking it over, all the classes seemed typical, nothing strange. The homeroom with Mr. Griffen first period was world literature. Second period I had Biology. the third period was lunch. Fourth-period World history, the fifth period was algebra two. The sixth period was my free period. seventh period and last period was LOTLAS? what the hell was that? Cindy looked over my shoulder and gasped.
"Wow, you are in a lot of the advance classes for only being a sophomore you must be super smart."
"I guess" I shrugged my shoulders.
"But can you tell me what the last one is?"
"Wow you must be athletic too if you are trying out for "Living off the land and surviving in your sophomore year lots of people wait till they are juniors to even attempt that class," she said.
"Eh... a little bit." I shrugged my shoulders again, trying to downplay everything, I was hoping I was going to be able to blend in but with how she was telling me how my schedule was I doubt it. I knew I was smart from all the tutors my parents hired to teach me, only the best for the best superheroes and their children. So, I already learned everything in those classes.
"Well looks like we have homeroom together, lunch, and free period. Do you want to sit together?" she asked sounding a little timid. I wondered why she did not sit with her friends or something and was asking me about the new kid, but the pleading look in her eye told me she really wanted me to sit with her for whatever reason, I was in no shape to deny a friendship.
"Sure! I would love to! I would love to have someone that knows the building help me from getting lost." I beamed at her.
"Great! we can get going, I just had to drop this letter off anyways," she said and then we were out the door heading to homeroom.
