Chapter 7 Exposing the Lie

The hesitation on Jack's face lasted only a second before he immediately answered, "Yes, yes, those bad guys wanted to hurt you, and I chased them away and saved you!"

Hearing this, tears welled up in Olivia's eyes.

God knows how desperate she had felt just moments ago. During that time, she had even thought that she would be assaulted by those bad guys, and then, and then...

"It's okay now, Olivia. I'm here, I won't let anyone hurt you!" Jack said, glancing around again but not spotting anyone.

"Thank you, Jack." Olivia's voice was sincere, her heart deeply moved.

"It's what I should do." Jack smiled and took the opportunity to stroke Olivia's hair. "Everything will be fine."

Olivia didn't pull away. Instead, she leaned closer to Jack's chest.

Right now, she needed a strong shoulder to lean on.

Jack's heart leaped with joy, and he could no longer hide the smile on his face.

Although it had cost him a bit of money, the effect was clearly excellent.

Before, forget about intimate gestures like touching her hair—even standing slightly closer, Olivia would resist.

Today was significant progress.

"Olivia, let me take you home." Jack helped Olivia up. Although he was enjoying this moment, this place wasn't safe to begin with.

If real bad guys showed up, he wouldn't be able to handle them at all.

Besides, ghostly wails and cries kept coming from deep in the alley, and he really wasn't in the mood to be romantic here.

"Okay." Olivia let Jack support her as she slowly stood up.

Only then did she remember that her clothes were still disheveled, which meant that earlier, some of her... had been exposed.

However, Olivia didn't mind. Jack had not only saved her grandfather's life but had now saved her as well.

Jack was sent by heaven to protect her.

Just as Jack was about to leave with his arm around Olivia, heavy footsteps suddenly came from the alley behind them, approaching step by step.

Olivia instinctively turned around and saw a familiar face drawing near.

"Albert?" Olivia paused. She couldn't understand why Albert would appear here.

Albert's expression was calm, and there was a faint smell of blood on him.

"Those guys have already confessed." Albert glanced at Olivia being held by Jack. "They're not from this neighborhood."

"They're here because a blond guy paid them money."

"As for the details, you can ask them yourselves."

Hearing this, Jack, who had his arm around Olivia, jumped like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. "You're lying! You're framing me!"

"I just happened to pass by here, saw Olivia unconscious, immediately chased away the bad guys, and saved her!"

Olivia froze but said nothing, pulling away from Jack's embrace.

"So, there were five thugs earlier, three of them 6.3 feet tall. What method did you use to chase them away?" Albert's tone was calm.

Jack was stunned on the spot.

This was indeed a scene he had staged himself. He had wanted to play the hero saving the damsel, but he never expected things would turn out like this.

"I said I was calling the police!" Jack's face turned red. "They got scared, and all ran away!"

"Ran away?" Albert smiled slightly and pointed toward the depths of the alley. "Then what are those things in there?"

Jack's face changed.

He had indeed hired those thugs, but he also knew that these people had real power behind them.

Even though he had paid them, if something happened to these people, he might face retaliation.

At the thought of possible retaliation, Jack panicked completely. Without caring about anything else, he rushed toward the depths of the alley.

Olivia stared at Albert for a moment, then followed him in.

Although they had mentally prepared themselves, they were still stunned by the scene inside.

The thugs who had been so fierce earlier were now lying scattered on the ground, their limbs twisted in unnatural positions.

Without exception, every movable part was broken. As for their ribs, needless to say, all that was left now was probably just their lives...

"How could this happen? How could this happen?" Jack completely panicked. These people could operate in this neighborhood, which meant they naturally had backing.

With things turning out like this, it probably couldn't be solved with just a bit of money.

"Quick, call an ambulance!" Jack said while dialing his phone.

Olivia suppressed her nausea and glared at Jack viciously. Without any hesitation, she turned and left.

Although this was Jack's staged act, she had truly been in danger, and also...

Albert had truly saved her.

Back at the alley entrance, Olivia didn't find Albert. For no reason, Olivia felt an emptiness in her heart, but she had no way to contact Albert and could only turn and leave.

Albert, who had already left, was no longer in the mood to go to Wilson Group. Those thugs had a foul smell, and combined with the smell of blood on him, Albert couldn't stand it.

Returning to his place, Albert took a comfortable shower.

Although he didn't take Jack seriously, in a way, he had helped Luna solve a troublesome matter.

If Olivia had really been deceived by such a scoundrel, it would probably be a disaster for Luna's family.

Lying in bed, Albert suddenly remembered that the day before, that blond guy had said he had given James some kind of miracle drug.

He wasn't sure what exactly he had given him.

But now, none of it had anything to do with him.

On the other side, Jack hurriedly sent those people to the hospital. This huge expense was simply beyond what he could afford.

But there was no other way now. He could only see if his father could smooth things over.

After explaining everything to his father, what greeted him was a severe beating.

But in the end, the matter still needed to be resolved. Finding those thugs hadn't cost Jack much money, but treating them had cost an astronomical sum.

This made Jack harbor a deep-seated hatred for Albert.

If it weren't for Albert, everything would have ended perfectly by now. He wouldn't have had to spend so much money on medical expenses, and he would have already won Olivia's heart.

Maybe with a little more effort tonight, he could have hit a home run.

All this beauty had been ruined by Albert.

"Albert, is it? Some bastard from who knows where dares to ruin my plans. You just wait!" Jack touched his swollen face, his eyes full of malice.

"You better not cower or run away. When I find the chance, I will definitely make you wish you were dead!"
