Chapter 3 Accelerated Death
"What?"
Luna and the other two exclaimed in shock at the same time.
Albert's voice wasn't loud, but to Luna and the others, it was like a thunderclap.
Who was Emma?
The only female general in Novaria! An idol in every woman's heart, exceptional in both combat ability and beauty—the best of the best.
And the 'Demon' Mercenary King, that famous super-strong warrior whose mere glance could terrify countless people.
Now, Albert was saying he'd scared him off?
Soon, Olivia snapped back to reality. She pointed at Albert angrily, "Are you sick or something? How can you just say anything?"
Luna was also stunned for a moment. She hadn't expected Albert to say something so outrageous. She quickly tried to smooth things over, "Albert must be tired. How about this, Olivia, you take Albert with you, and we'll go home and rest first."
"Our home isn't a refugee shelter. Someone who talks nonsense and seems to have delusions—we don't welcome him!" Olivia said with her arms crossed.
"I'm not comfortable having someone so sketchy living in our house either," Liam chimed in.
Seeing her husband and daughter's attitude, Albert frowned but said nothing.
"Enough!" Luna finally lost her patience and spoke sternly, "I already told you before—Albert is my best friend's child. Now that he has no one to rely on, I can't just ignore him!"
"No matter what, we need to at least help him find a job and get settled first!"
"I've already made up my mind. Olivia, you take Albert home. Your father and I will leave first!"
With that, Luna looked at Albert kindly, "Albert, don't mind them. They don't mean anything by it. Once you get to know them, you'll see they're good people."
After speaking, Luna smiled at Albert, then pulled Liam along and drove away.
Olivia had wanted to protest, but Luna's attitude left no room for discussion.
She glanced coldly at Albert, then walked straight to the Lamborghini nearby. When she saw Albert hadn't moved, her voice grew even colder, "What? Do I need to invite you personally?"
Albert smiled indifferently and got in the car.
The red Lamborghini's engine roared to life, shooting forward like an arrow released from a bow.
"I don't want some sketchy person living in my house, so I need to ask about your situation first. If you dare hide anything, don't blame me for being rude!" Olivia stared straight ahead, her voice still cold.
"Go ahead and ask," Albert said.
He had nothing to hide anyway.
"What did you do before? What are you good at?" Olivia asked.
"I didn't have a job. I was locked up in Blacksite Prison before," Albert said calmly. "As for what I'm good at... does fighting count?"
"I knew you were a serious criminal!" Olivia slammed on the brakes. She had already known this, but hearing it from Albert's mouth felt different.
"I guess so," Albert said helplessly.
"Our family doesn't welcome serious criminals, and we don't like violent people either. You'd better find a job quickly and stay as far away from us as possible!" Olivia calmed herself and started driving again.
"Of course."
Albert spoke up. He hadn't planned to stay long anyway.
There were many things waiting for him to handle in Emerald City. This trip was just an opportunity to repay Luna's kindness.
"So tell me, what really happened at the airport?" Olivia was still curious. "Don't tell me about some engagement with Emma..."
"Uh... it really is what I said," Albert said helplessly.
"Enough! You lying criminal, you shameless fraud who doesn't know his place!" Olivia cut him off. She turned her head away, "From now on, I don't want to hear another word from you!"
"And I have to warn you—behave yourself when you get to my house. Our home isn't some run-down place in the countryside!"
Olivia said coldly.
Meanwhile, in another car, Liam's face was dark as he honked the horn irritably.
"Luna, I don't agree with that guy living in our house. I can find him a hotel!" Liam's voice couldn't hide his anger.
"No. He's my best friend's child after all, and his identity is rather special. Being on good terms with him will benefit us!" Luna looked at Liam seriously.
"Benefits?" Liam's tone softened considerably. "What's his identity?"
As a businessman, he was particularly sensitive to matters of profit and gain.
If a small sacrifice could bring substantial returns, principles and bottom lines could be flexible.
"Well..." Luna hesitated.
Actually, she didn't know much about her best friend or Albert's identity. She only vaguely knew that Albert's family and background were different, but she couldn't say specifically how.
"You're trying to fool me again!" Seeing Luna couldn't answer, Liam roared and pounded the steering wheel. "I don't care what you see in him, but I have my limits!"
"I absolutely won't allow Olivia to marry this jerk, and I absolutely won't allow him to stay in our house too long!"
"If he doesn't behave or doesn't listen, I won't hesitate to deal with him myself!"
Luna glanced at Liam, let out a slow breath, and said nothing more.
Soon, Luna's car and Olivia's car pulled into a villa one after the other.
This was a wealthy neighborhood. Those who could live here were either rich or powerful. Each villa was detached, complete with gardens, lawns, and fish ponds.
"Mr. Smith!" The butler came forward skillfully and bowed slightly.
"Mm," Liam responded, his gaze falling on the car nearby. "Why is Dr. Anderson here?"
Hearing this, the butler quickly spoke, "After you left today, your father's condition suddenly worsened. We had no choice but to call Dr. Anderson..."
"My father's condition got worse?" Liam was alarmed and immediately rushed toward the villa. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Albert getting out of the car and said to the butler, "Keep an eye on that man. I need to go see my father now!"
Running upstairs, Liam saw Bruce Anderson and his assistant.
"Dr. Anderson, how is my father?" Liam asked anxiously.
His father, James Smith, had been in a car accident a few years ago and became a vegetative patient.
Over the years, they had consulted countless famous doctors, but nothing changed this fact.
In the end, only Bruce Anderson, with his mysterious methods, had been able to keep James alive.
"It's fine," Bruce said calmly. "With me here, your father will be okay."
Hearing this, Liam finally relaxed a bit.
"This time I'll use the medicine I've carefully prepared. He'll definitely be fine," Bruce said, extending his hand. His assistant immediately handed him several delicate glass bottles filled with liquid.
"Thank you so much, Dr. Anderson. I don't know how to thank you enough," Liam said quickly. "This time, I'll definitely pay you double!"
"Please do your best to help my father."
Bruce nodded slowly and was about to give James the medicine.
Just then, the room door was kicked open, and Albert's voice came through:
"If you want the patient to die immediately, go ahead and give him that medicine."
"Your approach is right, but your medicine is too strong. The patient's heart can't handle it. What you're doing is just speeding up his death."
Hearing this, Liam, Bruce, and the others were all stunned.
