Chapter 4 Chapter Four
CALEB’S POV
Ever since that night two months ago, I couldn’t forget her.
Elena.
Whenever a woman passed me by, I always imagined her and compared them to her. It seemed like no one could measure up to her. And the sex was so good that I didn’t want to have sex with any other woman to not spoil my experience.
I ran a hand through my hair, this habit of thinking about Elena every time and I was left with a tight pants, got to stop. It had become really frustrating. Sometimes, I had to drink myself to sleep so I could forget about her.
I had been the one to set the one night rule, no names and no expectations but now one night was never enough. I tried searching for her with her last name but there was no one like that. It made me wonder if she had lied.
I stood at the edge of a glass conference room overlooking a foreign skyline, I barely registered, my father’s voice carrying steadily behind as world leaders debated trade agreements and economic leverage.
“…long-term stability requires cooperation”
I tuned it out. Not because it wasn’t important. It was. Every word spoken in rooms like this shaped markets, alliances, futures.
But my mind had been somewhere else for two months.
A balcony with cool night air. woman with sharp eyes and a sharper tongue who had looked at me like I was just a man, not someone she should respect. I exhaled slowly, adjusting the cuff of my sleeves.
It was ridiculous. I had met countless women, dated some and forgotten most.
But her?
She lingered in my quiet moments.
“You’re distracted” my father’s voice cut through my thoughts like a blade.
I didn’t turn immediately. I already knew the look I’d find.
“I’m listening” I replied calmly.
“You’re not. It seems more like you’re lost in thoughts” I finally faced him, my expression composed.
“I can do both”
My father looked at me for a moment longer, then nodded slightly.
“Just make sure your thoughts don’t cost your focus. This is an important meeting”
“Of course, I can’t afford to fail you. Can I?” I said in a sarcastic tone. He looked away.
I cursed in my mind. I couldn’t stop thinking about Elena. This was new for me. No woman has event affected me this way except….one woman on a balcony.
The speaker continued but my mind was barely on what he was saying. I just wanted to leave here as soon as I could. I wasn’t interested in coming in the first place, my father needed my presence as part of his strategy for his re-election.
Act like a happy family.
The other reason I agreed to this was because it would be beneficial to my company in the long run. I couldn’t care less about my father’s position.
Just then a thought came to my mind, I could hire a private investigator to find her. I had already made a quiet inquiry from the gala organizers and no Elena matched that description.
It was like she had stepped into his world for one night and vanished. I didn’t like loose ends. I liked control and there was nothing controlled about the way she had unsettled me.
“Car’s ready, sir”
My security stood by the door, waiting. I nodded once and grabbed my coat. The meeting had ended and I had to make another appearance at the White House with my father.
The car pulled up to the private residence, security already moving into position. I stepped out, adjusting my jacket as I moved toward the entrance.
And then, I saw her. At first, I thought it was my mind playing tricks on him because there was no way, she was here.
She was just beyond the security checkpoint, tension written into every line of her body.
“Elena” I muttered to myself.
I started walking in her direction. Everything around me faded, the guards, the noise, the movement. I only saw her.
Just her.
She looked different.
In a good way. She looked more beautiful than that night. But I could see the tension in her posture as she looked around as if searching for someone.
“Sir…” one of the guards started.
“It’s fine” I said sharply, already moving past them.
Just then Elena turned and our eyes met. And for a second, everything from that night came rushing back. Her naked in the hotel and me kissing all around her body. The image stunk in my head like glue.
“Elena” I said, my voice lower than intended. Her breath hitched slightly at the sound.
“Cal” she said in a sultry voice.
That voice had an effect on me and she didn’t know that.
“Hi, I didn’t expect to see you here. Are you looking for someone?” I asked.
“Yes. You”
“Me? How did you know I’m here?” She let out a small, humorless laugh.
“You’re not exactly hard to find when you’re on national television” her voice was sharp and I winced.
I knew I had kept that important detail about myself away from her. But we had agreed on one night without our names. I studied her more carefully now.
“You shouldn’t be here”
“I know” she replied quickly. “I just had to see you. I have something…” She stopped herself, pressing her lips together. My brow furrowed slightly.
Something was wrong.
“What is it?” i asked, my voice shifted, sharper now.
She looked at me like she was trying to gather courage. Whatever it was, I knew I wasn’t going to like it.
“Elena” I said again, more firmly this time. “What’s going on?”
Her hand moved unconsciously to her stomach. It was a small movement, easy to meet but I didn’t miss it. Something cold slid down my spine. Our eyes met again.
“I didn’t know how to tell you” she said softly.
A second passed as I waited for her to say the word.
“I’m pregnant”
