Chapter 1 Rebirth, Almost Died Again
The night was blanketed in darkness.
Before she blacked out, Sophia Wipere could hear the voices of those jerks, playing like a broken record in her head.
"Sophia, you should've kicked the bucket ages ago! Why's a chick gotta be so tough? If you'd ditched your power earlier, would you be in this mess?" the man, Grant Miller, sneered. And just to rub it in, he spat on her again.
"Sophia, don't hate me. I just love Grant too much. Once you're gone, we'll be happy for sure." The woman's tone was taunting, as though the person before her wasn't her bestie but her worst enemy.
Sophia's rage simmered. She tried like hell to open her eyes, but her lids were heavy as lead, and her body felt like jelly.
"Please, I don't wanna die. I wanna live!" Sophia managed to utter between gasps .
Sophia lay on a soft bed, yet everything around her was pitch black. With her vision useless, her other senses went into overdrive.
She could feel a pair of hands wrapped tightly around her neck. The Her attacker said, "Diana, since you're so eager to die, I'll gladly see you meet your end."
She couldn't breathe!
Sophia hadn't figured out what the hell was going on before she was getting choked out, but the man in front of her was gonna kill her. Her survival instincts kicked in, and she fought back hard, but she was too weak to take him on.
Sophia's face turned red from the lack of air, and her eyes were bloodshot. Sophia was certain she was going to die again.
Suddenly, the door got kicked open.
At that moment, Sophia didn't care who it was. She reached out desperately, her eyes silently pleading, "Help me."
The intruder didn't hesitate. He grabbed the man's arm, trying to talk him out of strangling her. "Mr. Percy! Let go! If you keep this up, she's gonna die!"
But the man's eyes were full of rage, and he coldly said, "She deserves to die!"
Seeing that talking wasn't working, the butler's heart sank, and he dropped to his knees by the bed.
The butler pleaded, "Mr. Percy! Diana Percy's mom saved Juniper Percy's life. If you strangle her, Juniper won't rest in peace! Besides, today is the day of the divorce-please, don't do anything rash!"
Hearing this, the man finally cooled off, and his grip loosened.
Perfect timing! Sophia took the chance to break free, dragging her weak body backward, her eyes full of caution toward the man.
Seeing her fear, the man sneered, "So you're scared of dying? I'll let you off today. I'll have Nolan bring the divorce papers. Sign them and get out of my sight."
With that, the man got off the bed and stormed out.
The butler also got up, looked at her with pity, and said, "Mrs. Percy, take care of yourself."
They both left the room, leaving Sophia alone.
Sophia clutched her chest, still in shock. Her vision was still blurry, and it took a while to clear up.
"Didn't I die? Where am I? Who are these people?" Sophia murmured.
She finally had time to think, then she realized there was a chunk of memory in her head that wasn't hers.
Sophia was actually dead. To be precise, she'd been reborn in someone else's body.
The owner of this body was named Diana Spencer, and the guy who just tried to strangle her was her husband, Charles Percy.
Diana had a tough break, losing her mom, Bianca Spencer, at a young age. To make matters worse, her dad, Nathan Williams, was a real deadbeat. By the way, Diana went by her mother's last name.
She was a socialite, but she was head over heels for Charles. The more Charles despised her, the harder she tried to win him over.Today was their wedding anniversary, and also the day their sham marriage was supposed to end.
Originally, they could've split on good terms, but Charles wanted to strangle Diana to death. Diana was just blind in love.
But now that Sophia was in Diana's body, she had to get her revenge. Sophia silently swore to herself.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"Mrs. Percy, you in there?"
Sophia was about to answer when she realized she wasn't properly covered. Her skin, exposed to the air, was covered in suspicious red marks, and her body ached all over.
Sophia drew in a sharp breath, cursing quietly.
Nolan Smith, Charles's secretary, at the door seemed a bit impatient and urged, "Mrs. Percy, it's Nolan. You can't hide. If you don't open up, I'll go get the butler."
"Wait! Five minutes!" Sophia's voice was still shaky, sounding pitiful.
But Nolan, all business, looked at his watch and decided that if she didn't come out by then, he'd bust in.
But before five minutes were up, the door creaked open.
In front of him, Diana's hair was a mess, and her face was pale. She wore men's trousers and a shirt. The pant legs were rolled up because they were too long.
There were no women's clothes in the room, and Diana's clothes had been shredded. Sophia had no choice but to grab a set of Charles's clothes from the closet.
Seeing Diana in such a state, Nolan's expression didn't change. He simply handed over the documents and said coldly, "Mrs. Percy, these are the divorce papers. Please sign them. Also, Mr. Percy wants you to leave."
He implied that if she dared to make trouble, he wouldn't hesitate to remove her forcibly.
Without a word, Sophia took the documents, flipped to the last page, and signed her current name, 'Diana Spencer.' She wrote quickly but elegantly.
Nolan was somewhat surprised by her straightforwardness. Having followed Charles for so many years, he knew what kind of person Diana was. He had braced himself for a fight, but the matter was resolved so quickly.
"Alright, anything else?" Sophia asked.
"Ms. Spencer," Nolan corrected himself and slowly took the papers. "Aren't you gonna look at the contents of the agreement?"
Diana raised an eyebrow and replied, "Is there any point?"
Although the Percy Family was loaded, thinking of Charles's brutal nature, Diana was sure she wouldn't get any benefits. The agreement might even saddle her with with some debts.
Seeing Nolan frown slightly, Diana continued, "Would looking at it change the fact that I have to get divorced? Or does the agreement say I'll lose my family fortune? Whatever the outcome, it's not something I can control, is it?"
Hearing this, Nolan's eyes darkened as he took the divorce papers. "Ms. Spencer, Mr. Percy just wants you to leave quietly."
Diana said, "Oh, shoud I thank him?"
Nolan glanced at the red marks on Diana's neck. "Ms. Spencer, do you need me to call a doctor for you?"
Diana noticed Nolan's gaze on her neck and remembered the near-death experience of being strangled by Charles.
She shook her head. "No need." Staying here was more dangerous than treating her injuries.
Nolan said, "Then please pack your things quickly, Ms. Spencer."
Diana didn't dawdle, following the original Diana's memory back to her own room.
Her room was a converted storage room. It was quite laughable. She was glamorous outside, but at home, she didn't even have her own room.
Charles hated Diana so much that he ordered her room to be arranged far away.
Diana's room was very small, with just a bed and a table, making it very cramped. Under such difficult conditions, there were naturally no decent clothes.
So, she packed quickly, changed the ill-fitting men's clothes, and left with her suitcase.
She would never see Charles again.
Diana was quite anxious to leave.
A sharp voice came from behind, "Diana, where are you going?"
