Chapter Five

Two days later. The anniversary day

“Really? You would be announcing our engagement at the gathering?” Tara exclaimed, her joy knew no bounds but decided not to show it.

Tara pouted, “But what about your wife? She would be so mad at me, I took you from her,” Tara said while Lucas shook his head and shut her up with a peek on her lips.

“She will understand. She agreed to marry me under this condition so…she should face the consequences,” Lucas assured her and Tara was hiding under her wicked smile.

“But—”

Lucas looked around, “Speaking of Elena, where is she?” Lucas asked while Tara shrug her shoulders.

“Probably she went to get something, she will back soon, I guess,” Tara indicated while Lucas wasn't having it.

“I already told her we'd be meeting at  my family residence by 12noon! Why is she doing all of these?” Lucas yelped glancing over at his wrist-watch.

“Take it easy on her. I'm sure she will come and meet us there. Let's go,” Tara suggested and Lucas accepted instantly.

He took his car keys though he kept looking around if he would see Elena anywhere in the house, ‘why is the house so quiet? Where is Elena?’ these questions rang in Lucas's head.

He shook it off and got into the car, driving out of the mansion. “She’d better be there at 12. She needs to clean, cook with my family as well,” Lucas mentioned while Tara just rolled her eyes though Lucas didn't see her do that.

“Listen Lucas, Elena is not a child…i’m sure she will come around and appear at the gathering. Relax and please stop worrying about her,” Tara told him, obviously getting pissed off by the fact that Elena has been their center of discussion ever since they left the house.

They reached their parent house in less than an hour. 

“Where is Elena?” Sarah Rhodes, Lucas's mother was the first to ask.

Lucas simply licked his lips, “I don't know. She will meet us here and she's going to hear it from me today. I clearly told her the meeting is 12pm.” Lucas almost yelled and kept glancing at his wrist-watch.

Tara cleared her throat, “Hi mother,” She waved at Sarah. That was only then Sarah noticed her and she smiled.

“Tara! Good to see you again!” Sarah exclaimed and embrace her with a warm hug.

“Yes ma'am, me too. I'm so happy being in this family. ” Tara mumbled. 

“Come, come. Come in. Forget about Elena. You're good enough for my son!” Sarah concluded, caressing Tara’s cheeks to blush which made her feel so loved.

Something Elena has never gotten. 

Lucas loosen his tie and his eyes never left his wristwatch, it's almost time for the party to begin and Elena is not here yet. For some reason he wasn't feeling well about Elena absence.

‘Have I gotten comfortable with her around?’ He thought in his head and looked at the fountain.

‘If Elena was here, she would be playing with his little cousins by the fountain by now…where the hell is she?’ he struggled with his thoughts.

“Hey…are you good? You've been blanking out since we got here, are you okay?” Tara suddenly asked bringing him out of his thoughts.

“Yeah, yeah,” He mumbled rubbing his palm. 

“Lucas, you said you have something to tell us. What is it?” Sarah suddenly asked after they had stopped eating.

And then, Lucas remembered his promise to announce his engagement to his family. He stood up and raise a glass, “I'm going to marry Tara in two months time.” He announced and the rest of the family cheered.

“Finally! I'm glad you're dumping that poor brat called Elena.” One of his aunt said and the others laughed.

“Good riddance! Divorce Elena already,” Another chipped in.

Lucas brought the blue ring he got the other day and wore it on Tara's finger. Tara smiled so brightly like she was waiting for this date.

The party ended, Lucas folded his fist because Elena didn't appear at their party. “I’m going to show her hell today. How dare her not to come?!” He yelled.

“She came! Aunty Elena came!” Thomas, Lucas youngest cousin chipped in. 

Lucas narrowed his eyes, “what did you mean by that? Why didn't I see her?” Lucas asked.

“She came and stayed behind but left after giving me an advance gift for my upcoming grad, ” Thomas answered him and Lucas licked his lips in anger. 

He folded his fist so tight and he's never felt so angry in his entire life, “How dare her?!”

“She said something weird uncle. Is aunty Elena sick?” Thomas added making Lucas raised an eyebrow.

“What did she say?”

“She said she's not coming back again. She's gone forever.”

Lucas was stunned by what Thomas said. ‘Did Elena really came? Did she say that?’

He carried this thought all the way back to Elena penthouse, the drive back to the house was so silent as what Thomad told Lucas disturbed him more than he imagined. 

“Are you okay?” Tara kept asking but Lucas didn't give her a concrete answer. 

They returned home and all Lucas could search for was Elena. “Elena?! Elena!” He called but the whole house was silent like a grave yard.

He knocked on her door, “Are you in there Elena?” He asked hoping he would hear Elena's soft voice from inside.

He didn't get a response, he twisted the door knob and saw the whole room had been emptied. “What-” he was shocked, the only thing in the room now is the bed.

He walked into the room…he looked at where Elena places her laptop but her laptop had disappeared. Then, his eyes went to the letter Elena wrote.

He opened it, “Goodbye Lucas. Your love is back and I'm no longer available to you. You will never find me. Bye,” The letter says.

Lucas breathed out angrily…how dare her! He was about pulling out his phone when his eyes caught the papers in the thrash can.

One word caught his attention, “Pregnancy Result”

He took the papers, his jaw dropped and he couldn't fathom what the hell he's reading. “Elena…Elena is pregnant?”

What..?

“Elena is carrying my heir?” Lucas mumbled under his breathe. A tear rolled down to his chest.

A bit of guilt crept in, he remembered how Elena had tried to tell him about her pregnancy but he was ignorant. Instantly, Lucas pulled out his phone.

“Block all airplane flying out now.” He stated. 

“Find Elena Rhodes.” He instructed.

“ Find my Wife! Becarreful with her…She's with my child!” He roared over the phone.
