Chapter 2: What Was I Going To Do?
Maisie's POV:
I looked over at Mother, completely shocked by her words. She walked up behind me, still giving me her disgusted scowl, which caused me to immediately look back down at the floor. However, I made sure to keep my gaze on the floor as I looked over at the feet of Alpha, to see where he was currently standing. I had hoped that he wouldn't decide to take part in my punishment and would just let Mother take care of it as she saw fit to do so.
The reason is, I remember something she previously told me. That being mentioned, Alpha used to punish one of his personal servants who made the mistake of spilling a cup of his coffee over some papers he had on his desk of papers. From what I can remember, he had her beaten so badly that she later died from her injuries. I have been beaten pretty severely, but not yet to the brink of Death.
"Get this issue taken care of before I do," he growled as he took a step closer to my position, causing me to flinch at how close he had come to me. "His Highness is coming today, and I do not want anything out of place."
"Promptly, Alpha," Mother responded to his words, waiting for him to leave. Once he was out of sight, she turned her fury to me and exclaimed, "I am not dealing with this today of all days!"
Mother then reached down, grabbed a handful of hair on my head, and pulled me up to my feet. I slipped a few times, causing her to pull on my hair even harder, as I could feel how she pulled some of my hair out completely. She didn't stop pulling me till I was no longer in the dining hall and heading back down the servants' corridor. Once she was sure no one else was listening, she spoke next.
"Finally, one of your siblings will take their rightful place at His Highness's side," she spouted off cunningly, but harshly toward me. "Then we can forever be rid of you and your clumsiness."
I whimpered under my breath. I didn't want her to know that I made a sound as we kept walking down the corridor. I thought she would take me back to my room by the garage, but we passed the door that led out the back of the castle. She kept walking all the way to the stairs at the end of the hall. Then she proceeded down to the lower level. It was then that I knew exactly where I was being taken to.
She still held tight to my hair, pushing me out in front of her as we made our way down the stairs. When we were just a few steps from the bottom platform, she shoved me forward with massive force. I fell forward and didn't have enough time to place my hands in front of me and catch myself. With the force of being shoved and traveling down the stairs unsteadily, I landed directly on my face. I could feel all the delicate bones in my nose crack as my face collided with the hard stone floor.
I whimpered in pain a bit louder than before, and this time, I'm sure she heard me. I rolled onto my side so I could get off my face, while reaching up to cover my nose. My eyes were closed at that point. I couldn't see because of the water running down my face and the pain emanating from my nose. Suddenly, I felt the sudden gush of warm liquid rushing from my nose right after I covered it with both hands.
Great, now I have to clean yet another floor, as I'm sure it will be a mess once this is all over. That's when Mother walked up to me and sneered, "Get up, you clumsy girl. Look at the mess you created for yourself now!"
"Greeting's Ma'am," I heard a deep, shrill tone speak.
"Kyle, I'm so glad you came. Would you care to take her? I'm far too busy to deal with her." Mother said to the Master who worked on this level. "She broke a chair in the dining hall, and His Highness is coming by today."
"Promptly, Ma'am," he said, walking over to me and grabbing me by my arm, pulling me up to my feet as my hands were still covering my nose. "Get moving, and keep yourself quiet!"
He made me walk down the hall a decent distance before stopping to face a door on the side of the hall. I couldn't see anything because my eyes are still watery, but I heard the jingling of metal, followed by an old door creaking open. Then, he walks me inside, leaving me standing in the middle of the room. I knew better than to sit down at that point.
Master Kyle walked away, and after a few seconds, he returned to stand before me. He grabbed one of my wrists, causing me to hit my nose. I whimpered due to the pain shooting all over my face again when he placed something cold over my wrist. I wasn't sure what was next. Then he reached for my other wrist and did the same thing. I tried to blink to see what he was doing, but everything was exceptionally blurry.
He jerked on my arms, pulling them over my head. I was now hanging there, suspended only by my bound wrists as I whimpered in pain from the air forced out of my lungs. I heard more metal jingling when, suddenly, he just dropped me. I was caught by my wrists. The force in my arms almost popped my arms right out of their proper position on my shoulders. I gasped desperately for air at that point.
My eyes were wide open now. I watched him tighten his grip in mid-air, pulling his arm back, and hitting me in the center of my chest. I couldn't breathe as I was gasping for air.
"This will teach you to break something you can't replace," he said as he pulled his arm back and punched me in the stomach this time. “You're lucky Alpha isn't here to take part in all this! I can have a hand in it this time. The last time, Alpha put that miserable servant out of her misery.”
With each blow I received, I tried to pull my knees up to my chest, but due to the weight of my legs, I couldn't hold them up. All I wanted to do was block the hits that just kept coming. I was already exhausted, even before all this began. I didn't know what to do. A part of me wished that my life would just come to an end.
Was Mother going to allow Master Kyle to serve this treatment to the brink of having me land on Death's very doorstep? I whimpered as I received yet another blow. With each hit, I could feel it was getting harder and harder to catch my breath. I tried pulling up with my wrists, but that was useless as each hit knocked me back down to the same position.
That was when I started to see black around the edges of my vision. The black was making it harder and harder to see. There was no point in trying to count how many times I had been struck up till now. I had already lost count of how many. I wasn't sure what was happening, but pretty soon, black was all I could see. Soon, it was not all that much longer before I sadly did not see or feel anything else at all.
