Chapter 6 "Oh, Fuck You!"

Logan's POV.

I was never more eager for school today than anything. I was going to see her at school. I gulped down my fritters and plaintain and hurriedly drank my mint tea. The sooner I get to school the better.

"What's the rush?" my mother Lorna, asked. "You always take your time to enjoy my food."

I swallowed hard making a gulping noise.

"I'm just happy about being able to start woodwork class today"

She gave me a disbelieving look and pressed her lips into a thin line. My mother had brown skin and straight black hair with a bolbous nose and eyes too close together. Everyone said my mother wasn't the prettiest person in the community, and in that same sentence they said I looked just like her.

"I'm just happy your excited for school," she said as she planted a kiss on my forehead and handed me my lunch. After my brothers received their kisses and lunch, we did our usual walk to school. As I glanced around at the others joining us on our walk, I noticed I didn't see her walking along with us.

"Are you ok?" my friend Roman asked me, he noticed me looking around.

"Where's Cora Lynn?"

"Who?"

"The new girl who moved in with Sadie," I told him

"Why would she send her to school?" asked Roman. "She's a witch who does blood sacrifices, remember what happened to Sam.

How could I forget Sam? I remember the night she brought him home; he was sitting on the back of her cart as it rolled through the community, a wide eyed look in his eyes. She took his hand and helped him off the cart. I recalled later on looking out my room window and watching them eat around the woodfire and I didn't think anything of it until the full moon rose. She slaughtered him under the moonlight and covered herself in the blood, bottling the rest for spells, potions and to sell. My mother bought a vial that she kept over the entry of the house.

I shuddered at the thought of that pretty thing dying but what can I do? She was all I thought about at school and on the way home. I looked around wondering if I could get just a glimpse of her but nothing.

Halfway home, I noticed a group of male teenagers waiting at the side of the path; they all seemed anxious as if they were waiting on something.

"What's going on?" I asked Roman, noticing him amongst the group.

"It's a train, wanna join?" he asked devilishly.

I cocked my eyebrow. There's no trains out here in the countryside so I was confused. That's when I heard it; a feminine breathy moan and the shuffling of feet.

Oh! That type of train.

"Umm......" I started to say.

"Scared?" he asked.

"No," I quickly replied, "I've had sex plenty of times I just never had a train before."

"First time for everything"

I heard rustling and I see a talk lanky guy named Spencer and a short white girl peeked out ftom behind him. She looked sweaty and her hair was frazzled. Before anyone could say anything, Roman pushed me and said

"He's next!"

I suddenly was a bundle of nerves and I felt my palms get sweaty. Could this be it? I wondered, will I finally lose my virginity? Of course not because what happened next crushed my spirit.

"Eeew, what is that??" the girl asked.

"Come on Shella," said Roman, "Give the guy a chance."

"I'm not letting someone who looks like a troll fuck me," she said with a disgusted look on her face.

I held my head down and quickly walked away, tears stinging at the brim of my eyes. I wouldn't let them see me cry. I heard hurried footsteps and someone calling my name but I didn't stop.

"Logan!" Roman shouted as caught up to me, he put one hand on my shoulder and I stopped. Tears streaming down my face and I felt like shit.

"You're letting a whore get to you like this? Come on man who cares what she says."

"It's not just her," I explained, "its like every girl I met. I must be unlovable."

He went silent, he knew about what happened with Bethane and my brother.

"Come over later, let's have some snacks and game all night. I downloaded new games on my Meta headset."

"Sure thing," I said, my melancholy mood started to brighten.

Different paths to our respected houses made us separate but now I was smiling; Roman always knew how to cheer me up.

Cora Lynn's POV

I woke up to the smell of hominy corn porridge being made. I smiled, my favourite. I dashed outside wearing a night gown loaned to me by Sadie. It was purple and it hung past my knees; the long fabric almost tripping me. Sadie was bent over a large pot, her flat rump poised in the air. I looked around, the forest that stood to the left of the shack was loud with the songs of birds: morning doves, pigeons and bald plates. The morning air was crisp and the blue sky overhead made me feel at home.

Sadie turned to look at me and smiled. I furrowed my brow. Is it just me or does she look....... different.

"Good morning sweetie, how'd you sleep?" she asked while opening her arms for an embrace.

"I slept well," I responded, accepting her hug. When she released me I looked at her face and that's when I realised what was different.
