Chapter 2 Returning Home
Inside the ward.
Henry Mellon's icy demeanor softened when he saw the pale face of the girl lying in bed.
"So, you ended up like this because of a guy?" He asked.
Isabella moved her lips but didn't say a word.
Henry wasn't wrong; she had been foolish.
"Alright, I've dealt with the Carter family for you. Now, come home with me," Henry said impatiently.
He was prepared for Isabella to refuse to come home again, all because of a man.
In that case, he wouldn't force her.
"Okay, I'll go home with you," Isabella said quietly.
She had been reckless once; she wouldn't be reckless again.
Henry was surprised at how cooperative Isabella was being today, and it improved his mood considerably.
"I've talked it over with Mom and Dad. If you want to keep the baby, that's fine, but they have to take our last name, Mellon."
"Alright," Isabella said, gently touching her stomach.
Someone might not care, but she did.
"Henry, I want to go abroad and finish my studies," Isabella decided to share her thoughts with Henry.
Henry waved his hand indifferently.
As long as Isabella wanted, she could go wherever she wanted.
After all, he had money.
Five years later, at the capital's airport.
A woman in a white dress pushed a luggage cart. It was Isabella.
Years ago, she went abroad and gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl.
But her son, Oliver Mellon, was diagnosed with congenital heart disease shortly after birth.
To cure Oliver, Isabella had spent the past five years studying medicine, specifically focusing on cardiac surgery.
She had returned this time because of breakthroughs in domestic technology and to learn and exchange knowledge.
"Mommy, Oliver is missing," Amelia Mellon said in a sweet, childlike voice, tugging at Isabella's sleeve.
They had just left the airport, and Oliver had disappeared after a quick turn.
Isabella's expression darkened as she pulled out her phone and quickly located him.
However, when she saw the location, her face fell.
The men's restroom.
Oliver, the mischievous little rascal, had run off without a word. She would have to give him a good talking-to once she found him.
After retrieving Oliver from the restroom, he held a small tablet, looking frustrated.
"Mommy, give me a little more time! I'm really close to finding him!"
He held up his tablet. "My program tells me that someone who might be my daddy is nearby!"
Years ago, she had gone abroad and given birth to two children.
Isabella rubbed her temples, feeling weary. "Be good and don't run off again. Your daddy has gone to outer space; you won't find him."
"Mommy, I'm not naive anymore. Do you think I'd still believe that outer space story?" Oliver said disdainfully.
Before Isabella could say more, a sharp voice caught her attention.
She saw a woman grabbing Amelia and shouting, "Whose unruly child is this? Are you blind? Do you know how much this bottle of perfume costs?"
In the hall, a woman in a pink dress with heavy makeup stood surrounded by a puddle of liquid and broken glass, a strong scent filling the air.
The strong smell made passersby cover their noses.
Amelia was coughing violently from the perfume.
"You brat, you dare to fake a cough? This is a limited edition perfume! Can you afford to replace it?"
Before the woman could finish, she was about to push Amelia.
Seeing this, Isabella grabbed Oliver and rushed forward, carefully holding Amelia and patting her back, then putting a mask on her. "Amelia, I'm putting a mask on you. There are a lot of allergens here."
"Mommy, I didn't break the perfume. I was trying to find you and Oliver. That woman was walking fast, playing with her phone, and holding the perfume. She didn't see me. She almost stepped on me, so she dropped the perfume."
Amelia's breathing steadied as she explained, tears streaming down her face.
Though Amelia's health was better than Oliver's, the strong perfume still made her dizzy.
"You little brat, are you trying to shirk responsibility?"
The familiar voice made Isabella recall who the woman was: Terry's dream girl, Elora Harris.
Why was she here?
Without time to think, Isabella interrupted her. "Miss, first of all, I believe my daughter. Secondly, this is an airport, and perfume is a flammable liquid, which cannot pass security. Moreover, I smell a lot of alcohol and cheap fragrances in your perfume. If you insist that my daughter damaged your property, we can take legal action."
"What nonsense! This is a unique, limited-edition perfume! Don't talk if you don't understand!" Elora screamed, her face showing a hint of unease.
She sneered at Amelia. "No wonder you have such an unruly child; you must be the same."
Her words were venomous, and Oliver couldn't hold back.
"You bad woman, don't bully my mommy and sister!"
Oliver was ready to fight, but Isabella held him back by the collar.
"Isn't this Mr. Carter's fiancée?"
Someone in the crowd recognized Elora.
Elora proudly lifted her head. "I advise you to apologize to your children now. Maybe I won't press charges and send you to jail. Otherwise, with my background, you and your bratty daughter..."
Elora's face was full of arrogance, as if she had already won.
The next second: a slap landed hard on Elora's face.
"If you insult my daughter again, I'll show you what a mother can do for her child!" Isabella's voice carried the authority of someone not to be trifled with.
"You dare hit me? Are you insane? I'm calling the police! You're going to jail!" Elora shouted, picking up her phone.
Isabella remained calm.
She put Amelia down and took out cotton swabs and test strips from her bag: she was a doctor, and this was her habit.
She then took a sample from the ground and mixed it with a reagent.
Three seconds later, the reagent bubbled furiously, startling the crowd.
"What are you doing?"
"This reagent tests for toxic substances. The higher the toxicity, the stronger the reaction. Although I don't know who you are gifting this to, it seems inappropriate, even to the point of needing police intervention." Isabella explained.
"Since you mentioned jail, we can call the police and see if this liquid is legal. Or, if how you obtained it is legal."
Elora's face turned pale. She rushed to the perfume puddle and started wiping it with tissues.
"Don't talk nonsense! Everything I have is legal. I won't pursue this today, but next time I see you, you'll pay!"
Elora's perfume was indeed not entirely legal. And contained banned substances.
She didn't dare involve the police.
"What's going on here?"
A man's voice suddenly rang out.
Isabella looked up, her heart suddenly tightening.
