Chapter 3 If It's Cheating?

"What did you say?"

The kitchen range hood was on and really loud. Ethan didn't catch it. "Appointment for what?"

Sienna walked over and turned off both the range hood and the stove. "Appointment to get our divorce certificate."

Ethan's face instantly darkened. "Sienna, what exactly do you want?"

"Sienna must be mad at me. There's no way she'd really want to divorce Ethan." Queenie immediately rushed over and grabbed Sienna's arm, shaking it like a child. "Sienna, take it out on me instead. Don't make Ethan upset. He's injured..."

Sienna coldly pulled her arm free and took a step back, looking at the two of them.

"Your leg's been broken for two days and you already ran out of the hospital. Is the injury not that bad, or is love just that powerful?" she asked Ethan with a half-smile.

"Sienna, just say what you want to say." Ethan's eyes burned with anger. "You made a scene at the office, then went to make a scene at Old Manor, all because I didn't tell you about my car accident right away?"

Sienna glanced at Queenie, answering in her mind: It's because he and Queenie have slept together countless times without telling her.

"What I want to say is, let Queenie stay here and take care of you." Sienna answered flatly.

After all, they were siblings. No matter what, there was no way he could actually marry Queenie. Sienna was just their cover. He wouldn't agree to divorce easily.

So she had to test the waters first, then figure out her next move.

"She can't cook." Ethan frowned. "If you don't want to stay upstairs, go sleep in the guest room downstairs."

After all, his leg was injured. Living together with him really wasn't convenient.

Sienna laughed. "So who do you want living with you? Queenie?"

"Sienna." Ethan laughed too, but it was an angry laugh. "Can you be rational?"

"I'm not being hysterical or making a big scene." Sienna just felt exhausted.

Arguing more wouldn't lead anywhere. She was tired and didn't want to say another word.

"Sienna, Ethan, stop fighting." Queenie's voice carried a sob. "Sienna, are you hungry? Try a bite."

She pushed over a plate with something pitch black on it. Only then did Sienna see it was a burnt steak, looking like charcoal.

"It's my first time cooking, I don't have experience, but Ethan said it was good." She said timidly. "Try a bite? Please don't be angry anymore?"

Sienna glanced at Ethan. "Did your brother break his leg and his brain too? This is edible?"

Queenie burst into tears.

Sienna couldn't be bothered with her. She reached out and threw the steak and plate straight into the trash. "Forgot to tell you both, everything in the fridge is expired."

Even after she went back upstairs, she could still hear Queenie's soft sobbing from the kitchen, along with Ethan's comforting words.

When she came downstairs with her suitcase, to Sienna's surprise, only Ethan remained in the living room.

"Did I make her leave? Wanting to be Mrs. Howard, yet so delicate."

Her flat sarcasm was met with Ethan's barely suppressed angry questioning. "Sienna, are you done yet?"

"Queenie is my little sister. Even without blood relation, she's still a Howard! Do you have to be jealous of her?"

"You said it yourself, you don't share blood." Sienna met Ethan's eyes, her own growing hot.

When they first got married, he said he didn't have deep feelings for her.

He might not be able to love her like a husband should, but he promised to fulfill his responsibilities and wouldn't deceive her.

Looking back now, it all seemed ridiculous.

Sienna raised her eyebrows. "If you don't think you two are too close, fine. I won't say more."

Everything she wanted to say, wanted to fight about, she'd brought up many times over the past six months. He'd ignored it all.

"I'll just ask you one thing." Her tone softened, looking serious and rational. "Ethan, can we get divorced or not?"

Perhaps only now did Ethan realize she wasn't just saying things in anger. His face darkened to a frightening degree.

"You were the one who begged to marry me. You said you'd never leave, for life." He spoke each word deliberately.

"I never said I'd be your nanny for life." Sienna looked at him calmly, tears quietly welling in her eyes. "I get no respect. No one outside knows I'm your wife..."

"So I'm taking it back. Promises are just words. You can't really expect me to be someone who keeps her word, can you?"

She held back her tears, her smile both mocking and defiant.

"Fine." The anger Ethan had been suppressing suddenly erupted.

He'd been sitting in the armchair the whole time. Now he suddenly raised his hand and threw the tablet he was holding at Sienna.

The tablet hit the coffee table, and the glass surface instantly cracked.

The loud noise made Sienna flinch. In all their time married, Ethan had never thrown anything before.

"Is this man the reason you want to divorce me?" he asked.

Sienna looked down and saw herself with Lucas on the tablet.

The photo was clearly taken that afternoon. Lucas was pulling her arm, and she was in his embrace.

It looked like they were hugging, very intimate.

The angle was tricky. The road and the truck weren't in frame. Combined with the lush greenery of the residential area, it looked like she and Lucas were strolling through a park.

The fact that Lucas's face wasn't visible in the photo added even more mystery.

She put the tablet back and checked her own phone.

Both Wendy and Lucas had messaged her. Neither had found anything through their channels. The surveillance malfunction looked natural, the driver's death looked normal. It all appeared to be an ordinary drunk driving accident.

She put down her phone and asked Ethan, "Do you want me dead?"

Only someone with Ethan's resources could make everything look this seamless.

"What do you mean?" This clearly wasn't the answer Ethan expected. "No wonder you always suspect me of having something with other women. Turns out you're the one who's been cheating!"

Sienna took a breath, knowing explanations would be useless.

She simply asked him outright, "What if I am? Would you divorce me then?"
