Chapter 5 I want to stay.
"Hello to you too handsome," Beth drawled, her husky voice clearer than it was when she first woke.
She'd met the nurse and the tall scarred guy but not the one who was pacing.
He was tall, broad shouldered and his face... Gosh, she couldn't tear her eyes from him. Perfectly sculpted with silky hair that she wanted to run her hands through.
When his gaze burned through hers, she shifted in her seat, suddenly feeling hot.
She averted her gaze and glanced at the other two but her gaze returned to Mr handsome and lingered.
All three in the room, were tall, tanned and had a body that was to die for, same as the others she met earlier.
"Are you guys model or something?" she couldn't resist asking.
"The cold didn't affect your voice," Mr handsome snapped like she'd offended him.
"It must have impaired you mentally. Nara need to evaluate you, as you seem too far gone to comprehend questions," he completed.
Beth arched her brow, "Excuse me?" She was taken aback when he held her gaze without even blinking once. His eyes were hazel coloured, with a hint of wildness that made her shiver.
"Weak stupid human," he grumbled under his breath.
Beth straightened in her seat. Never would she take being insulted again.
"Hey," she leaned forward. "I appreciate all of your generosity and kindness but you're being awfully rude. I mean, you don't even know me, a little courtesy won't hurt.
"She didn't know why they all wore a look of shock when she was done speaking. Whatever, message passed. She shrugged and crossed her legs.
"Leave us," Mr rude and handsome ordered. To her surprise, the others left without a word. Hmm, seemed like hot guy held some rank.
Beth felt a bit of fear when he started to advance on her but surprisingly he stopped before her.
"Do tell me young one, with a mouth as sharp as this, how did you let yourself get lost in the woods?" he asked.
"My name is Beth."
He frowned, then as if just realizing what she said, he nodded. "Beth," he drawled.
The way he said her name, it had her subtly drawing her legs together.
Christ, she wasn't attracted to him, was she?
"Beth," he repeated. "You haven't answered any of my questions."
"I need to see your boss, the main leader," she demanded.
Nara had explained that they had a leader that called the shots, she'd said he had the power to determine her fate in the village. So if she could just get into his good books she was good to go.
"The main leader does not speak to strangers," the rude guy replied. "Speak, and I will deliver your message to him."
"I do not trust you to deliver my message," she snapped. "Go get me Nara, I'm rather comfortable with her."
He froze, his hazel coloured eye flashing as it held hers. "Did you just... order me?" he asked incredulously.
She quietly held his gaze.
"Incase you didn't notice, Nara takes order from me, it is absurd that you think that anyone would run errands for you."
Arrogant bastard, she seethed. "Wait, are you aware that you're so full of yourself?"
"I might have heard that before." His lips quirked up in a smile and her eyes fell on them, she wondered if they would be as moist as it looked.
She flushed hard and looked away when he caught her staring, all her life, she'd never known sexual intensity so fierce.
He drew back from her, putting space between them and started to pace.
Beth almost covered her face in shame, he must have drawn back because he didn't find her attractive.
Just like Jason... Ugh what was she thinking. Hot guy probably has a girlfriend.
"I'll give you a last chance to speak or I order that you be thrown out of the pack." His voice was eerily low.
Order? Beth blinked. If he could make orders, then..he was the main boss!
As realization dawned, she panicked.
His rudeness, all that bossy aura she didn't recognize it. Damn it! Even the scarred guy had quietly taken his orders. Goodness, she hadn't destroyed her chances before it began, had she?
But....he didn't act like he wanted her to know who he was.
Good, she cleared her throat. She was going to play along.
It was her opportunity to live a life of normalcy and she would grab it by the horn.
"Please," she started quietly. "I just need to tell your boss that I am truly grateful to be alive and here.
Also, I, I want to stay here, like live here, maybe a month or two. I'm willing to do all it takes to fit in.I promise not to draw attention to myself, I just want a place to stay for the time being," she pleaded.
He chuckled. "First, you ask to stay and now you want to be freely sheltered, I like your guts."
"Please..."
"Save yourself the strength," he waved her off. "You won't stay, you cannot."
She frowned. "Why? I'll work, I'll do anything." She couldn't go yet, she had nowhere to go, she had splurged almost all of her savings on the uneventful hike that almost took her life. This was the chance she needed, a small place where she could start afresh, a clean break from Jason. "Please," she begged.
Her eyes followed him as he walked the length of the room. Twitching and pacing like he was in a fix.
Finally, he stopped at the foot of her bed. "You have to leave, we do not want any of your people coming back here to look for you."
"My people?"
"Yes, surely others would have noticed your absence and will come to search for you."
Beth burst into laughter, she laughed so hard that tears dropped. "You don't have to worry about that," she wiped away the tears. "I was alone in that cave for days and none of that group tried to find me. "I assure you, no one will come for me, i'm not special."
He frowned. "Your people will not come for you?" he asked, incredulous. "Your family? The group that you followed to the woods"
"First, I have no family," Beth started. "Secondly, those are fun partners, I was just meeting most of them for the first time, so we aren't friends. Please, I want to stay."
Ralph tussled his hair. "All in one day. Fuck it," he cussed.
She but her lips in thought. Going back to the city wasn't a good option. It meant that she would go back to the dark times of sleeping on the streets. Or she could go to Jason. No, that wasn't an option.
Beth swallowed past the lump in her throat. "P-please," she whispered, not caring that her voice broke.
