Chapter 6

Marlowe prided herself on being a woman of high society and would never come to a place like this.

Even for a sneeze, she would insist on going to a private upscale hospital in the city center, where dedicated VIP service was always at her beck and call.

Gloria lowered her gaze and quickly shoved the test results deep into her bag, pressing them down hard with her wallet and a pile of miscellaneous items.

Whatever reason Marlowe had for suddenly appearing here, she absolutely couldn't let her know about the pregnancy.

At least, not now.

This child was her own precious treasure. She could not allow its existence to be exposed in the slightest, not at this moment, and especially not in front of her.

She quickly composed herself and was about to turn and leave through another exit when a familiar harsh voice came from behind.

"Gloria?"

Gloria's steps halted. She knew there was no avoiding it now.

She slowly turned around, putting on a polite but distant smile. "Mom."

Marlowe walked up to her in high heels, her eyes scanning her from head to toe, full of criticism and suspicion.

"What are you doing here?"

In Marlowe's eyes, Gloria had always been a scheming woman who had used tricks to marry into the Tudor Family, climbing her way up to Henry to secure the enviable life she had now.

Every time they met, Marlowe found Gloria displeasing, no matter how she looked at her.

In the past, Gloria would have felt hurt and tried every possible way to please her. But now, she just found it ridiculous.

Why should she continue treating someone who never valued her efforts with such care?

"I'm not feeling well."

Gloria smiled lightly, looking no different from before, except that her eyes now held only indifference.

Her gaze swept lightly over Marlowe's slightly nervous expression. Then she changed the subject and asked , "But what about you, Mom? Why would you come to a place like this? I remember your private doctor is at the city center hospital, isn't he?"

Marlowe's face instantly stiffened.

Henry had urgently called her over last night, telling her Bianca was pregnant and asking her to accompany Bianca to her prenatal checkup today, as well as comfort her.

Henry had repeatedly warned her that Gloria absolutely couldn't find out about this.

Although she now wished she could kick Gloria out of the family, she still didn't dare disobey Henry.

After all, her current lifestyle and expenses depended entirely on Henry.

Looking at Gloria's excessively beautiful face, Marlowe's anger surged.

What use was that face except for seducing men?

Three years of marriage, and still no pregnancy.

But Bianca was different—such a good girl, and now carrying Henry's child!

Thinking of this, Marlowe's confidence returned.

Unable to come up with a suitable excuse, she simply questioned Gloria—this was what she did best.

"What I'm doing here is none of your business!"

She raised her voice, her shrill tone drawing sideways glances from people around them.

"You have the nerve to ask me? Gloria, let me ask you—how many years have you been married to Henry? Three years! Why aren't you pregnant yet? Do you know what people are saying about us, about Henry?"

"Did Henry marry you just to keep you as decoration? And you have the nerve to pry into my affairs?"

Her harsh, vicious words stabbed at her without mercy.

But Gloria was no longer the woman who would silently endure the pain alone.

She smiled indifferently.

The child Marlowe was so obsessed with, she had one now too. Only, this child had nothing to do with them anymore.

"What are you smiling at?"

Marlowe mistook Gloria's smile for guilt and scolded her even more vigorously, "Let me tell you, Gloria, my patience has limits! If you can't have a child, then divorce Henry quickly and stop holding him back!"

These words echoed clearly through the busy hospital lobby.

It was extremely humiliating.

Gloria listened to all this, hiding the mockery in her eyes. Then she looked up, about to speak.

"Mom, the checkup is done. Let's go."

A familiar male voice came from behind her, carrying some fatigue and helplessness.

Gloria slowly turned around.

In the distance, Henry was striding over, his brow furrowed.

And beside him, being carefully supported by him, was Bianca.
