Chapter 6: My Wife Can’t Take Your Slap for Nothing

Cassidy gently stepped forward and said softly, "Arabella, don't be upset. Love doesn't need reasons. You just finalized your divorce with Anthony at the courthouse yesterday, and then went to get a marriage license with another man. Anthony didn't hold you accountable for cheating during your marriage, did he? Why can't you just let go gracefully and give Anthony and me your blessing?"

Jennifer, hearing this for the first time, ignited. “You dared cheat on my son?”

She exploded forward. “You cheap slut! I knew from the start that face of yours meant trouble! I really underestimated you!”

With that, she shoved Cassidy aside, rushed up to Arabella, and slapped her hard across the face!

Arabella didn't see it coming and instinctively covered her burning cheek.

Jennifer planted hands on hips, pointing at Arabella’s nose., "I could tell from the beginning you're bad luck! Total trash! What did Anthony ever do wrong to you that you'd do something so heartless!"

Her voice rose, shrill and piercing, insults pouring out like venom.

Arabella wanted to laugh.

But this was the Watson family the family that ruled Majestic City. Backing down was survival.

Jennifer’s self-righteous fury made it seem as though Arabella had erased the entire Watson bloodline.

Anthony stood by watching with his arms crossed. Cassidy made a weak attempt to pull Jennifer back with a few words, but quickly put on a "fragile and helpless" act, as if she didn't know what to do.

Jennifer came from humble roots. In her youth she had been a campus troublemaker with top-tier street-fighting skills. After marrying into the Watson family, she put on airs, pretending to be an upper-class lady every day, slowly shedding her old habits.

But dealing with Arabella? That came naturally.

Arabella had been a good girl all her life. For the first twenty-plus years, she was generous, kind, and well-mannered. Her friends and colleagues were all civilized people.

If she hadn't met Marilyn three years ago and Jennifer two years ago, she would never have known there were people like this in the world—people you couldn't reason with, who had no logic, who cursed like machine guns, who twisted everything around so you couldn't get a word in.

Jennifer grew angrier at Arabella’s silence. She hated people like her most always looking innocent, always acting wronged. She wanted to tear that face apart!

Arabella dodged the next swing in embarrassment. She didn’t dare fight back if she provoked Jennifer, it would hurt her father and make it impossible for her to survive in all of Majestic City.

But while dodging, Jennifer slipped and crashed to the ground.

Cassidy rushed to help her up, voice reproving. “Arabella, Mrs. Watson is your elder. How could you lay hands on her?

Anthony strode over, his face dark. He grabbed Arabella's arm and yanked her aside, saying sternly, "Have you caused enough trouble!"

Faced with his thoughtless accusation, Arabella's eyes still turned red with hurt.

Anthony saw it and his voice grew even colder: "Drop the act and apologize to my mother!"

Arabella held back her tears. "I didn't do anything, Anthony. Can you please be reasonable? She hit me, and I didn't even fight back!"

Anthony's face completely darkened: "I never knew you were such a vicious woman! Since you won't apologize, don't blame me for taking legal action!"

Arabella's whole body tensed. She knew she couldn't fight the Watsons. Court would be exhausting, time-consuming and the outcome would almost certainly go against her.

She was hesitating whether to swallow her pride and give in when a deep voice suddenly came from behind her—

“My wife was attacked without cause by your family. I need an explanation.”

Arabella turned, stunned. “Alexander? What are you doing here?”

Alexander stood calm silver-gray suit perfectly pressed, expensive black watch gleaming his refined bearing radiating quiet power. He had appeared in Majestic City’s wealthiest neighborhood, yet everything about him screamed distinction.

Facing her, Alexander softened the coldness in his eyes and explained, "I came to visit a client."

As he spoke, he glanced subtly at the man who had followed him.

The man understood and tentatively asked, "So Alex, we'll sign the contract tomorrow?"

His voice trembled slightly on "Alex."

Alexander nodded. "Yes."

Joy flashed in the man's eyes. He forced himself to stay calm and said, "I'll be leaving then."

The man left with movements that even seemed a bit flustered.

Anthony looked down at Alexander with contempt."That's the CEO of Lerco Mining, right? Unfortunately, I'm pretty close with him. One word from me and the deal you worked so hard on is gone. If I were you, I'd get on my knees and beg for mercy right now."

He sneered, face full of scorn. With just a flick of his finger, he could destroy Alexander completely.

Arabella, after leaving me, this is the best you can do?

Alexander stood there calmly, seemingly unbothered. His voice was low and firm: "Too bad you're not me."

Anthony's face darkened.

Arabella panicked a bit. She didn't want to drag Alexander into this, so she said to Anthony, "I'll apologize. Let's just end this."

Before she could finish, Alexander placed a steady hand on her shoulder. His voice was calm, strong, protective.

“It’s not your fault. Why should you apologize?”

Arabella froze.

For the past two years, she'd gotten used to being pushed around by the Watson family, used to apologizing to everyone. This was the first time someone told her it's not your fault, why should you apologize?

But this was the Watson family, a family that ruled Majestic City. If she didn't back down, how could she survive?

Anthony sneered, "Arabella, remember this, you brought this on yourselves! See you in court. I won't hold back!"

Alexander said coolly, "No need to hold back. We'll get what we're owed."

As soon as he finished speaking, he walked up to Jennifer and slapped her back on Arabella's behalf.

His movement was clean and didn't look particularly forceful, but the mark on Jennifer's face was more red and swollen than the one on Arabella's.

Jennifer covered her face, furious and disbelieving: "You dare hit me?"

The Watson family members were all stunned, a nobody in their eyes actually dared to lay hands on them?

Alexander, as if oblivious to their rage, calmly wiped his right hand with a silk handkerchief and explained good-naturedly, "My wife can't take a slap from you for nothing."

"You're asking for it!"

Anthony stared at him coldly and suddenly reached out, throwing a vicious punch!

Arabella's breath stopped, Anthony worked out regularly and was all muscle. This punch could crack Alexander's skull.

Her heart jumped into her throat, but she had no time to stop it. She could only helplessly clench her fists.

But to everyone's surprise, Alexander caught the punch. His hand lightly gripped Anthony's wrist.

Without visible effort, Anthony's face instantly turned pale, as if the pain reached his bones. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

"Mr. Watson," Alexander looked up at him, like looking at an insignificant clown, "you'll regret this, in every way."

Anthony's breathing became erratic from the pain. It felt like his wrist was about to be destroyed. He actually felt tremendous pressure from an "insurance salesman."

He wanted to say something harsh, but when he opened his mouth, not a single word came out... For the first time, he felt fear!
