CHAPTER 9
Meanwhile at the Ashford's villa, things weren't looking exactly good on their end, none of them could step out without being surrounded by the press in minutes.
Their names were being tainted just because of the heir's affair with his ex-wife's best friend. Olivia's choice of explosion really hit them hard because most wealthy people were there to witness the event.
A knock fell on Kevin's door and he was immediately pulled out of his thoughts, he placed his phone aside and turned to the door which opened after.
His face relaxed a bit when he saw his mum walk into the room but to his dismay, a slap fell on his left cheek.
“Mum..” he called out in shock, he couldn't remember anytime his mum ever hit him for something whether bad or worse.
“Have you seen the news? Everyone is hating on us! You should have been extra careful! We all know how that woman is curious to know everything! She has ruined our good name..”
Kevin let out a deep sigh, he pinched the space between his brows feeling extremely helpless. Olivia must have felt disgusted at his attitude while he pretended to be nice and caring to her.
She knew everything right from the start and here he thought that he was really smart.
“I had no idea that she knew about my affair! But that's almost impossible because I watch her keenly.. how else did she find out–
Kevin paused his speech midway recalling something from last night, he recalled the presence of someone who he didn't invite to his anniversary party.
“Why was he there last night?” he questioned no one in particular staring forward.
His mum was lost at first but she caught on to his question quickly. He gained the most attention last night with his arrival.
“Do you think he had a hand in this? It's very possible..we both know that he's a very good lawyer..”
Kevin shook his head quickly dismissing his mum's words. There might be an inch of truth in her words, his nemesis made an appearance at his party last night and coincidentally, Olivia made such a move.
His mother's words could be true after all..
“After all these years, he chose to strike back using such a move against me? He used my wife to get to me!” Kevin let out a growl and kicked the air in anger.
Olivia waited patiently in the large living room for her grandfather to step out. She understood that he might be keeping her waiting on purpose to show that he was still upset with her.
Thirty minutes passed by and still no show from him, she decided to go meet him up instead, the second she stood up, a loud voice broke behind her into the room.
“If you had no plans to wait why else would you show up?”
Tears gathered in Olivia's eyes at the familiar voice, she hadn't turned yet to see her old man but the aura he emitted made one freeze. She allowed her tears to fall freely as she turned to him slowly.
“Pops..” She cried out softly.
The old man who stood at around 5'9 had a black staff on one hand, although his hair was all grey, he still had that aura that could make one cower back in fear. His face was blank and he stood still as he watched Olivia take slow steps to him.
“I failed you..I didn't heed your warnings..can you ever forgive me?”
Olivia didn't wait for his response, she rushed into his arms crying loudly, no matter how mad he was at her, he couldn't possibly throw his grandchild out or lock her out from his heart for too long.
“Oh child..” Ryan wrapped his arm around his granddaughter, he kissed her head gently and allowed her to cry into his arms as long as she wanted. He didn't try to stop her from crying either.
She needed to cry her eyes out once and never will she cry for the same reason again.
“I'm really sorry for leaving you behind. I was very wrong, please don't hate me. I shouldn't have gone back on you just like that..”
Ryan hummed in response, he gently pulled her back and stared at the tears that stained her face.
“Good. Take this.. ” he offered her a white handkerchief which she accepted slowly. “Wipe those tears and let it be the last one you shed for that imbecile..”
Olivia did just as her grandfather instructed, she dabbed the napkin under her eyelids carefully until no tears were in sight.
“No granddaughter of mine will shed a single tear for a man like Kevin Ashford. I'll make him pay for treating you like that..Go on to your room child, you're welcome back home where you're loved unconditionally..”
Olivia's heart warmed, she shared a brief hug with him once more before stepping away.
“I love you Pops..”
Now she was questioning her sanity, if her grandfather loved her so much like this, why then did she choose to leave him for Kevin?
“I know Liv. Go on and freshen up, I'll be with you shortly.. there's something I need to take care of first..”
Olivia nodded her head in understanding and left thereafter. Once she got to her room, she noticed everything was still intact like the way she left it years ago.
Everything was neatly kept, this means that her room was always cleaned up. She felt extremely guilty thinking of how much her grandfather must have wished for her to come back home.
She walked to the bedside table where a photo frame was sitting, it was a family photo of her and parents when she was younger.
“Mum, Dad. Pops was right this time, he told me that Kevin would hurt me at the end and I'm afraid that his words came through. He left me for Nancy—i swear I'm not gonna let that happen again.”
Just then, her phone rang. She brought it out of her purse only to frown staring at the screen which was boldly flashing Nancy's name.
The audacity!
