Chapter 11 Bankrupty Knocking

Aldric’s POV

“Vanguard Combat. Arcane Dominion. Sovereign Tactics. Veil Sciences,” I listed the subjects in a growl. The public library downstairs seemed quite rowdy, another reason I was glad Marek and I had private quarters to work in. I couldn’t stand working down there, not in this mood.

My job was to make sure that the majority of the students are doing well in all four subjects. If not, we would have to change the Subjects Masters or Professors.

Standing alone in the centre of the room, the island table in front of me, with lots of papers and results laid on it. Suddenly, the air around me tightened as I sensed a presence.

My warlock instinct was beeping and werewolf scent picked up a scent. I knew who it was. Yet he always snuck in. Damn it. It had to be a very tough demon attribute.

“You're hiding your scent,” I scoffed, without raising my head. “Marek. I know you are here.”

A whooshing sound circled me, with a ball of wind. I dropped my hands by my side, staring as it passed me, with a blank expression on. “No time for tricks, Marek. I have so much work.”

He kept it out, increasing the speed. My hair lifted and my clothes danced on me. Then a crackling laugh filled the air. I zeroed my eyes on the wind circling me, annoyed.

I found him, forming like a body of wind. His face was visible and his mouth opened as he laughed. I timed it, watching it carefully.

Then I lunged forward, grabbing his hair with my warlock instinct. He materialized in my hand, bending as he groaned in pain.

“You—” He pursed his lips and pushed me off, standing in front of me. “Do you want to mess my hair up?” He asked, running it back with his hand.

I shook my head. “Damn it. Marek. If you’re not going to help me with this work, don’t make it harder for me.”

He smirked and slapped my shoulder, walking behind me. “Oh, come off it. It’s not that much of a big deal.” He said, eying the papers.

I paused. “Yeah, how would you know when you’ve never done this no big deal work— ever.”

He pressed his eyes shut and was about to speak when I leaned on the table, facing him. He went mute and liked his lips. “Aldric, are you okay?” He asked.

I sighed and nodded. “I am fine.”

“No, your eyes are red and that is how you get when you are angry at something,” he pointed at my head. “Those veins too. Tell me, did I make you mad?”

My fist clenched. “Do you know how important this is to me?” I asked.

“What?” He asked.

“All of this,” I gestured at the papers on the table and then at the entire Upper court library. “Do you know how important this is to me?”

“Yes, I only took this President thingy because of you. You needed the money so badly and that was why I took your advice to wrestle in the tournament and become president.”

My head bopped up and down slowly. “Good. Do you recall how much it took for me to get you in shape even though you were a better fighter than I am? How I stayed up day and night, making sure you train well?”

He nodded, brushing his hair back. “I do, Aldric. All thanks to you, we achieved all of this. Thank you so much.” He rolled his eyes, picking offense with my battering.

I smiled softly, looking down. “Tell me why you told the Principal that you didn’t want this job.”

He sighed. “Aldric, I didn’t mean to say that. I was just triggered at that time.”

“Yeah. That you forgot I needed this badly?” I questioned him. “If you lose your job as President to your rival, I will lose mine as an Assistant President. With time, I would go bankrupt and drop out of school.”

He dropped his head. “I’m sorry. But, I will never leave you without help. I promise—” he reached for my hand. “You will never need to drop out.”

I pushed his hand off me, flaring up. “I am not a charity case, Marek.”

He furrowed his brows, and arranged his shirt. “I never say you were,” he growled. “You would never be.”

I gritted my teeth. “I would never have needed your money if I wasn’t less privileged. I won’t need it now, either.” I pushed the papers off the table to the floor. “How about you get this no big deal work done.” My feet fell into motion towards the door.

“Aldric.”

I paused. “You are fired, Aldric. You don’t need my money, you shouldn’t need my job, either.”

My head flicked back to look at him, wide-eyed. He squinted at me, arms crossed. My chest tightened as heavy breath rushed out of my nostrils.

“What?! I am fired?!” I asked, broken. My tone pitched. He nodded.

“FUCK YOU!” I cussed at him. I turned instantly to leave and then I bumped into someone small. I stepped back, buffing with fury. “What are you doing up here?” I snapped at her.

Then she lifted her head, staggering back. Fiamara Calder? Her? Why was she here?

Curly red hair. Amber eyes. Like no other.

I felt every bit of rage sip out of me and my shoulder dropped as her eyes met mine. “You?” I whispered, trying so hard to smile, my jaw ached.

She raised her hand and slapped me hard across the cheek. “Jerk, how dare you scare me like that at the waterfall?!” She yelled at me, fuming.

Marek gasped behind me. My eyes bulged, as I held my face. “I—”

She pointed a finger at my face. “That was for making me lose consciousness then pretending to be a hero by taking me to my room.” She turned immediately and walked out. I stood still, thinking about what just happened.

“Oh shit. Man. I’m so sorry that happened to you,” Marek said, tapping my shoulder. “How dare she slap my Assistant. The nerve of that little girl—”

“Marek,” I called softly, my hand dropping from my face. “You were at the water fall, right?”

“Uhhmm. Yes,” He responded. My brows crossed as I faced him. My gut grumbling out of the rage bubbling in me.

“What did you do to her? And why is she saying I did it?” My shirt ripped at the arms as I shifted, losing control.
