Chapter 15

“Stop! I haven’t agreed yet. Of course, you can leave if you want, but leave that girl behind. As for you… do as you please.” After observing the situation for a while, Jane Harper understood very well why Ada had called her over: to keep that girl with them. She knew Ada’s temper well, so she absolutely couldn’t fail in this task. Besides, with so many people under Ada’s command, why did she choose Jane? It showed how much trust and importance Ada placed in her. So, she had to do this right and not let Ada down.

“No way, I must take her with me.”

“Kid, don’t be so arrogant. It won’t do you any good.” Jane Harper’s hand was clenched tightly, making a cracking sound.

Daisy was a little scared, but she still said stubbornly, “That’s just how I am. What can you do to me?”

Jane Harper snorted and said, “Do you even know who you’re talking to?”

Daisy spoke in her usual arrogant tone, “Do I really need to know who you are? After all, you’re just a woman.”

“Good job, kid. You’ve got guts.” With that, Jane Harper clapped her hands. Several men in black stepped forward from around her. Jane Harper ignored them completely and said coldly, “Take this kid away and teach him how to speak to me, Jane Harper of the East.” After that, she walked up to Daisy Lawrence, kicked him hard in the stomach with her knee, then struck him in the back with her elbow. With her other hand, she tightly grabbed his neck and pulled it upward. His head snapped back, and blood started flowing from the corner of his mouth. With a tight grip, she made him stumble and fall to the ground. Jane Harper shouted, “Take him away. Remember: don’t kill him, and don’t break his ribs. Do whatever else you want with him.”

“Yes.” Then, the men in black took him away, moving with great efficiency and speed, without any delay.

“Well, what should I call you?” Audrey said in a very polite manner.

“Dongfang Jian Harper.” Jian Harper’s tone wasn’t particularly cold, but it wasn’t very enthusiastic either.

Audrey said gratefully, “Thank you, Miss Dongfang.”

Jane Harper smiled faintly. “It’s nothing. I’ll do my best regarding Ada’s matter.”

“What will they do to him?” Audrey was a little worried.

“Don’t worry, he can’t be killed. Jane Harper made that clear just now.” Ada said as she got out of the car.

Jane Harper, upon seeing Ada, quickly said, “Ada, I’ve kept the person you wanted.”

Ida frowned. “But your method doesn’t satisfy me at all.”

Jane Harper asked in confusion, “The method?”

Ida frowned and explained, “Yes, if you go around beating people like that, how can Audrey have a peaceful life when she gets home?”

“I’m sorry, Ada.” Jane Harper realized that her actions had indeed been inappropriate.

Aida simply said, relieved, “Thankfully, you didn’t go too far and didn’t let them do anything to him. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.”

Jane Harper asked curiously, “But how did you know?”

“Before Audrey got out of the car, I placed a miniature recorder on her. So, I heard everything you said just now.” His face darkened significantly. “That Daisy Lawrence is really too arrogant. She dares to ignore everyone. Audrey, do you have to deal with such a person every day at home?”

“Hmm.” Audrey nodded helplessly.

“He’s the only son in the Cheng family. Cheng’s father is a newly rich man who spoils his son because of his wealth. Cheng’s mother, on the other hand, is a typical snob who maintains good relationships with people from high society. Together, these factors have shaped Daisy Lawrence’s arrogant and self-centered personality,” explained Audrey.

“Rich? Newcomers to wealth? They have nothing to do with that family at all.” Of course, it’s understandable. The Russell family has vast amounts of money—they can essentially control the economy and even monopolize certain industries. How could a mere Cheng family possibly catch the Russell family’s attention?

Aida took out her phone and dialed a number.

“Hey, uncle, we’ll be at my place in five minutes.”

After saying that, he took out something that resembled a USB drive from his pocket and handed it to Jane Harper. “Jane Harper, this is the audio recording from earlier. Keep only the beginning part; cut out the rest. Then, burn the saved portion onto a CD. Give it to me when you’re done.”

“Understood. When will it be delivered?” Jane Harper asked, taking the USB drive.

Aida said, somewhat irritably, “I need to go now. I want to have what I want by half an hour.”

“Mm.” After that single syllable, the sound of a car engine could be heard. Jane Harper drove away quickly, disappearing from sight in the blink of an eye.

The cheetah arrived. “Miss, what is your command?”

Aida arranged everything with great efficiency: “Uncle, please investigate Daisy Lawrence. I need the most detailed information possible. Have it ready in half an hour. Also, get all the necessary pictures and recordings. Do it right now.” Her face showed a sharpness that wasn’t typical for someone of her age.

“Hmm, understood.” After the cheetah left, Ada’s expression became very ugly.

Finn Townsend asked worriedly, “Aida, are you okay? Do you need to rest?”

Aida forced a smile and said, “I’m fine, cousin. You should go home first.”

“Hmm, take good care of Audrey. I’m leaving now.”

Aida and Audrey walked toward the living room. Aida instructed, “Once we get inside the living room, just answer everything truthfully whenever asked. Of course, you can keep quiet about your identity. Also, whatever I say, don’t express your own opinions. Just listen, understand?”

“Mm-hmm.” Although Audrey didn’t know what Idia was really up to, she knew for sure that Idia wouldn’t do anything to harm her. Otherwise, there would be no point in keeping her around all along.

Upon entering the living room, Ada still had a sour expression on her face and said nothing.

Qiao asked worriedly, “Baby, what’s wrong? You look so pale. Please tell mom what’s happening.”

Aida glanced at Audrey and asked innocently, “Mom, does having money mean one can be selfish and unreasonable?”

Although Qiao could be strict with her daughter sometimes, she loved her more than anyone else. Hearing what Ada said, she felt heartbroken and asked, “Baby, why do you say that all of a sudden? In the business world, no company dares to confront your parents head-on. Our family is among the richest in the country. Who would ever dare to bully you? Tell me.”

Aida still looked unhappy. “It’s not me who’s being bullied, it’s my friend, Audrey.”

“Audrey? You mean she’s Audrey?” Joe looked at the girl before him. She did bear a resemblance to his daughter. He felt somewhat emotional inside.

“Hello, auntie.”
