Chapter 12

Abigail Chapman, however, paid no attention. She continued to shout frantically, “Answer me! Did you actually promise him or not?” At that moment, he resembled a wild animal out of control, filled with fear and unease.

Ida shook his hand off with all her might, deliberately annoying him. “So what if I agree? And what if I don’t?”

Abigail Chapman’s voice trembled instantly, her eyes filled with pleading. “Please, don’t agree to him, okay? Ada, I love you. I really do. I don’t want you to be with any other man. It would break my heart.”

Aida’s cheeks turned slightly red. In truth, she also liked this man who loved her so deeply. His confession made her both shy and touched. She just wanted to get away from this awkward yet exciting situation. As soon as she reached the hospital entrance, she saw Audrey and Cheetah arriving in a hurry.

“Aida, are you okay?” Audrey stepped forward quickly, looking at her with concern.

“It’s okay, I’m just a little hungry. Let’s go home.” Ada wasn’t really hungry at all; she just wanted an excuse to get away from Abigail Chapman’s intense gaze.

“Since you’re hungry, let’s go back to Cart City first. I’ll have someone prepare something delicious for you. Meanwhile, I’ll deal with those who tried to poison you. After that, I’ll announce that Cart City is now yours.” Abigail Chapman looked at Ada with serious eyes, her affection for her almost overflowing.

Ida looked at him and asked seriously, “This is something you’ve built up over years of hard work. Aren’t you regretful? If you give me Car City, you’ll have nothing left.”

“Regret?” Abigail Chapman smiled, her tone utterly sincere. “How could one regret giving away the most precious thing to the one they love most? Besides, I built this car city all for you. I’m willing to give it to you, as long as you’ll stay by my side.”

Ida could hold back her tears no longer. Her eyes welled up with tears as she was completely moved by Abigail Chapman’s deep affection. Seeing this, Abigail became panicked and rushed forward to comfort her. “Ida, please don’t cry. Every tear you shed pierces my heart like a sword. How could you bear to make me suffer like this?”

Ida threw herself into Abigail Chapman’s arms, crying and saying, “Silly, why are you so kind to me? You make me cry. It’s all your fault…”

Abigail Chapman gently patted her back, comforting her softly, “Yes, yes, it’s all my fault. If I don’t treat you well, then who should I treat well? I’m sorry. I won’t let you cry or suffer anymore. If I show my feelings now, you’ll cry even more later. I’ll keep loving you in my own way, to prove how much I care.” His voice was full of earnestness, as he wanted nothing more than to stop Ada from crying.

Aida cried for a long time before gradually calming down. She raised her head and looked at Abigail Chapman. “I won’t eat anything. As for those who poisoned me, you handle them yourself. Please be merciful. As for Car City, it’s still yours. If you want to see me in the future, just call me or have someone come get me. Given our relationship, I won’t refuse. But please never poison me again. If you do it one more time, I really won’t talk to you anymore.”

Abigail Chapman scratched her head awkwardly, looking apologetic. “It was an accident. I really wanted to see you, but I was afraid you wouldn’t come. That’s why I asked them to find a way. I had no idea they’d use a sedative. From now on, I’ll protect you properly and never let you get hurt again.”

Aida smirked dismissively. “Pfft, do I really need your protection to use my abilities?”

Abigail Chapman agreed with her, laughing and saying, “Yes, yes, our Ada is the best. No one can touch you, haha.”

“Abigail Chapman, how dare you make fun of me!” Ada playfully punched him. The two of them laughed and chatted affectionately, looking like a lovely couple, much to the envy of others.

After the laughter subsided, Abigail Chapman said, “Alright, let’s go back to Chicago first. Once we’ve taken care of everything, I’ll drive you home.”

“Hmm, okay.” The four of them walked together toward the underground car park.

Not long after they left, Audrey’s phone rang. She answered it, and Finn Townsend’s anxious voice came through the line: “Audrey, have you found Ada? Where are you right now?”

“Hmm, I’ve found it. We’re on our way to the underground car park now,” Audrey replied softly.

“Okay, we’ll be there in a moment,” said Finn Townsend, then hung up the phone in a hurry.

“Sis, who is it?” Ada asked casually.

“It’s Finn Townsend. He asked where we were and said he’d be there in a moment.” Audrey looked at her phone, her tone carrying a barely noticeable hint of disappointment.

Aida noticed her thoughts and teased, “So it’s my brother after all. He doesn’t even call me, but goes straight to you. It seems like you’re more important to him than I am.”

Audrey quickly explained, “No, he called me to ask about you as well.”

Seeing her serious expression, Aida stopped joking around and asked seriously, “Sis, what’s the situation between you and Brother? When do you plan to make your relationship public?”

Audrey sighed, her voice low: “Probably a few more years.”

“What? Several years?” Ada almost shouted, her face full of disbelief. “Why wait that long?”

Audrey wore a pitiable expression and said helplessly, “I have my own reasons for not being able to leave. After all, the Cheng family raised me for over a decade. Even if they treat me badly, I can’t just walk away like that.”

Aida said with disdain, “The grace of raising them? Just give them money, isn’t that enough? They’re so opportunistic and greedy. They truly have no sincerity toward you. Giving them money is already more than enough. I’ve been wronged by the Russell family, and I still haven’t held them accountable.”

Audrey remained worried, saying softly, “It’s not money that worries me. The Cheng family is insatiable. If we reveal our relationship rashly, they’ll surely demand a huge sum of money. No one knows exactly how much. I don’t want my actions to cause trouble for the Russell family.”

Ida waved her hand nonchalantly, speaking with certainty, “Money isn’t a problem. I don’t believe there’s anything money can’t fix. No matter how much they ask for, we’ll pay. All that matters is that you can return to the Russell family sooner and avoid any hardship.”
