Chapter 6 The Fight For My Wolf

Chapter 6– Annie’s POV

The Fight For My Wolf

I paced back and forth in my room, hands clenched into fists at my sides. The feeling of emptiness gnawed at my chest, the sharp, aching hollowness where my wolf used to be. It had been weeks, months even, since I’d last heard her voice in my mind, since I’d last felt the pulse of her energy coursing through my veins.

Why couldn’t I get her back?

I slammed my fist into the wall, the pain only a fleeting distraction from the storm in my mind. Every part of me wanted to scream. I needed to feel whole again, to reclaim the power that was rightfully mine. I couldn’t just sit here, waiting for something to change.

I wanted my wolf back.

I collapsed onto the bed, breathing heavily, trying to calm the wild thoughts swirling in my head. But they only spun faster. The feeling of betrayal—by Caleb, by my pack, how everything had turned to dust. How I had failed.

I slammed my fist into the pillow.

Come on, Annie. Just focus. Fight. You’ve fought before.

A low growl escaped my throat, my nails digging into the soft fabric of the pillow as I struggled to regain control. I could feel the edges of the shift calling to me, the faint stirrings of my wolf beneath the surface, but it wasn’t enough. It wasn’t close enough to the surface.

What’s wrong with me? I thought bitterly. Why can’t I do this?

But as the thoughts raged in my mind, something shifted. A presence. I froze, eyes snapping toward the door. It creaked open slowly, and there stood Damon, his broad shoulders filling the doorway, his eyes dark but burning with an intensity I couldn’t ignore.

“Damon,” I said, my voice thick with frustration. “What do you want?”

He didn’t speak at first, his gaze sweeping over me with something unreadable. His usual calm demeanor was gone, replaced with an almost desperate energy. I was used to his steady presence, but tonight, he seemed… different.

“I came to check on you,” he said, stepping into the room, closing the door behind him with a soft click.

“Check on me?” I repeated, incredulity lacing my tone. “I’m fine.”

I was anything but fine, but I didn’t want him to see that.

“You’re not,” he said, his voice surprisingly soft, yet unwavering. He took a few steps toward me, his eyes never leaving mine. “You’re struggling. I can see it.”

I looked away, avoiding his gaze. My chest tightened, and I could feel the tears threatening to well up again. I couldn’t let him see me like this. Not again.

“I just want to get my wolf back,” I whispered, my voice breaking slightly. “I don’t know how anymore.”

Damon was silent for a long moment, and I could feel the weight of his gaze on me. The air in the room felt charged, heavy with unspoken words. Then, he moved closer, his presence overwhelming, filling the space between us.

“Annie…” His voice was a low murmur, but the intensity behind it made my heart beat faster. “You’re not alone in this. I’ll help you.”

I opened my mouth to protest, but he stopped me with a raised hand. “You don’t have to do it on your own. Let me help you.”

Before I could respond, Damon’s hand was on my wrist, pulling me to my feet. His grip was firm but gentle, as though he was holding me together. I wanted to pull away. I wanted to fight it. But I couldn’t.

His other hand reached up, his thumb brushing along the side of my cheek. The touch was almost too much, too intimate, and yet, it felt right. I closed my eyes, letting myself lean into it.

“Let go,” he whispered, his voice barely above a breath. “Let me help you find her again.”

I shivered, unsure of what he meant. But there was something in his eyes that made me trust him. Something that made me feel safe, despite everything.

Damon moved even closer, his body almost pressed against mine now, and my breath caught in my throat. “Annie,” he said, his voice a soft plea. “Trust me.”

I didn’t know how to answer him. Words felt useless right now. Instead, I stepped into him, closing the small distance between us. I felt the heat of his body, the strength of him, and something inside me cracked. I needed him. Needed the comfort he offered.

And then, in that moment of weakness, of vulnerability, Damon kissed me.

It wasn’t a soft kiss. It was full of tension, of need, of everything we’d been holding back for so long. His lips were warm against mine, demanding and gentle all at once. My mind screamed to pull away, to stop this madness. But my body betrayed me, leaning into the kiss, deepening it, as if it had always known this was where we were meant to be.

I felt my pulse quicken, my breath hitching as his hands cupped my face, tilting it just right, like he was trying to hold me together, piece by piece. His touch was possessive, sure, and yet tender in the way he held me, his fingers tracing the curve of my jaw, memorizing me in a way no one else ever had.

As the kiss deepened, I could feel the familiar stirrings of something I had missed—the flicker of my wolf, the faintest hum of power beneath my skin. The bond I thought had been lost seemed to spark, reigniting with Damon’s touch, his presence.

When we finally pulled apart, I was breathless, my chest heaving. I couldn’t look him in the eye. I was scared of what I might see there.

Damon’s hand remained on my cheek, his thumb gently brushing back and forth, as though grounding me. “You don’t have to do this alone, Annie,” he whispered. “You don’t have to fight anymore.”

I closed my eyes, my breath still ragged. The connection between us felt undeniable now, like a pull I couldn’t escape. It was more than just a physical reaction. It was deeper, something that transcended mere attraction.

“Why are you doing this?” I asked, my voice trembling. “Why help me?”

He was quiet for a long moment, and when he finally spoke, his voice was low, almost a whisper. “Because I’ve always been here for you, Annie. Always. I’ve just been waiting for you to see it.”

And in that moment, I realized it—Damon wasn’t just offering me his help. He was offering me himself. And I was starting to fall for him, in a way I couldn’t deny.

I opened my eyes, meeting his gaze. There was no turning back now. I had to face what I was feeling, the truth of it.

“I don’t know if I’m ready for this,” I admitted, my voice quiet.

Damon smiled, a soft, understanding smile. “I’ll be here when you are.”

And for the first time in weeks, I felt something stir inside me that wasn’t just a flicker. It was a fire. A fire I didn’t know I had the strength to ignite. But with Damon’s help, maybe… just maybe… I would find my way back.
