Chapter 4

Victoria pulled a small bottle from her cloth bag. The moment she removed the stopper, a strong medicinal smell instantly filled the entire room.

William breathed in and was surprised to feel the burning in his lungs begin to ease. He frowned. Could she actually know medicine?

Victoria walked over to him with the bottle and crouched down to examine his leg. Only then did William get a clear look at her face.

He almost never lost his composure but for a moment, he just stared. What had Ruby done?

Victoria was too focused to notice anything else. She didn't see the disgust on William's face and just stared carefully at his leg.

This injury was definitely tricky. The wound area was too large, and it looked like it had been repeatedly infected and inflamed many times. The tissue had necrotized.. No wonder so many doctors had been helpless.

But Her formula was designed to regenerate tissue from necrotic flesh it would help. She'd refine it once she'd assessed his condition more closely.

She looked up and finally had time to study him. Even wearing a mask,even through the mask, the angles of his face were striking enough to suggest what he must have looked like before.

But his eyes were like knives, and there was a coiled tension in him, the kind that preceded violence.

What a waste. But he was alive and luckier than he knew.

"I'm going to apply the medicine now. It might hurt a bit, so bear with it."

"Wait." William looked at the dark blob of ointment, his brow furrowing. "What is this stuff? Has it been tested by medical authorities? Does it have market approval?"

Victoria paused.

Her medicines were always in high demand on the dark web. Those so-called institutions weren't qualified to test her medicines.

But he didn't know her identity, so his suspicion was normal.

"It's my own secret formula, specially for treating burns, promoting blood flow and tissue growth. Don't worry, harming you wouldn't do me any good."

As she was about to apply it, she suddenly noticed the color looked different. She sniffed it, went still, and looked up with a sheepish wince."Oops, sorry, I grabbed the wrong one. This bottle is poison. These little bottles all look too similar."

William's mouth twitched uncontrollably.

After Victoria rummaged through a pile of bottles and jars to find the right medicine and was about to apply it, her wrist was suddenly grabbed firmly.

"Secret formula?" William sneered. "You think I'm a child? I've searched for the world's top experts for this condition, and they all said it can't be cured."

Victoria tilted her head at him. "Are you sure you've found all the world's top experts?"

She definitely wasn't among them.

William paused. There was one name he hadn't managed to track down. Ruby had said the only way to reach her was through a dark web bounty, . She had won an international medical award before most doctors had finished their training and the field had never quite recovered from the shock of her.. Even royal families and celebrities from various countries found it nearly impossible to get her to see them once.

She was a very mysterious figure.

She also had the last name Getty. As for her full name, he hadn't remembered it.

But what did that have to do with the girl in front of him?

Victoria didn't want to waste more words with him and just shook off his hand. "Stop dawdling, let's get on with it."

William stared at her for a long moment.

She was certainly bold, most people didn't last this long under his stare.

After a moment of silence, William reached out his large hand and grabbed her slender neck precisely.

He lowered his voice threateningly. "You better pray your skills match your arrogance, or I'll make you regret coming into this world."

With that, he flung Victoria away.

Victoria fell to the ground, coughing violently.

Now she understood exactly what kind of man she was dealing with.

After catching her breath, Victoria rolled up his pant leg, revealing the hideous, ugly scars on his calf. She evenly applied the ointment. Just as she finished and hadn't had time to clean up, someone burst in from outside.

"William..."

It was William's younger brother, Benjamin Howard. When he saw the dark blob in Victoria's hands, his expression changed, and he rushed over and shoved her aside.

"What filth have you put on his leg?"

Victoria didn't have time to react and was pushed heavily to the ground.
