Chapter 6

The agreement clearly stated that Tristan was voluntarily and unconditionally transferring fifteen percent of his shares in the Getty Group to her. This fortune would be enough to keep her comfortable for the rest of her life, and even the life after that.

In the past, she would have been moved by his generosity and love.

But now, Scarlett's eyes were fixed only on an additional clause at the end of the agreement.

That line of small print read:

[If Tristan has any offspring, legitimate or otherwise, this agreement shall automatically become void, and all shares shall be transferred to said offspring.]

He didn't even bother to pretend. He had paved the way directly for the child in Chloe's belly.

This wasn't compensation at all—it was charity with a trap, assuming that without him, Scarlett would have nothing and could only accept it with gratitude.

A cold smile curved Scarlett's lips as she casually tossed the agreement onto the table with a crisp sound.

"Rose, bring me the one our lawyer prepared."

She picked up her phone and called Tristan.

"The shares are too much. I don't deserve them," she said calmly. "I had my lawyer draft a new one. Come over and we'll sign it in person."

There was a moment of silence on the other end, then Tristan's usual indulgent voice came through: "Okay, whatever you want."

Half an hour later, a black Bentley pulled up at the villa's entrance.

Scarlett was lying on a lounge chair by the pool in the backyard, wearing a white slip dress. Sunglasses covered most of her face, revealing only her delicate and indifferent jawline.

She looked relaxed and carefree, as if none of the previous turmoil had ever happened.

Tristan strode over with a smug-looking Chloe following behind him.

"Why suddenly change your mind? What I give you, just take it."

Tristan leaned down, habitually trying to kiss her forehead, but Scarlett subtly turned her head away.

His movement froze, but he didn't get angry, thinking she was just still upset.

"This one suits me better." Scarlett handed him a new agreement.

Tristan took it and glanced at it casually. Seeing that the shares had changed from fifteen percent to five percent, he assumed she was just playing hard to get.

He chuckled lightly and picked up the pen without a care, signing his name at the bottom.

"There, happy now?" He handed the signed agreement back to her, his tone gentle.

He didn't even notice that this new agreement had already removed the clause about offspring inheritance.

Standing nearby, Chloe's face changed instantly.

That additional clause was something she had pestered Tristan to add—it was her and the child's biggest guarantee for the future!

She wanted to speak up and remind him, but Tristan stopped her with an impatient look.

Just then, Tristan's phone rang—an urgent call from the company.

He frowned and walked aside to answer it, his voice gradually fading away.

Only the two women remained by the pool.

"Scarlett, why bother?" Chloe, holding back her anger, walked over to Scarlett, her tone almost overflowing with smugness. "You've seen now how much Tristan loves me, haven't you? He's even willing to give the company's most important shares to the child in my belly. So what if you changed the agreement? His person and his money are all mine."

Scarlett took off her sunglasses. Those beautiful eyes were completely calm, making Chloe inexplicably nervous.

"A man tied down by a child is the most unreliable," Scarlett said lightly, each word like a needle precisely piercing Chloe's deepest fear. "Because if he can betray me today for your child, tomorrow he can abandon you for another woman's child."

"You're lying!" Chloe's voice became shrill as her sore spot was hit.

"Whether I'm lying or not, you know in your heart." Scarlett put her sunglasses back on, not wanting to look at that twisted face anymore. "You're just using your pregnancy to steal something that doesn't belong to you from me. Pitiful and pathetic."

"I'm not pathetic! Tristan loves me!" As if trying to prove something, a flash of crazy malice appeared in Chloe's eyes. She suddenly moved closer to Scarlett, a strange smile curling at her lips.

"Scarlett, tell me, if we both fell into the water at the same time, who would Tristan save first?"

Before the words finished, she suddenly grabbed Scarlett's wrist, fell backward, and screamed with all her might: "Help! Scarlett, why are you pushing me!"

A huge pulling force came, and Scarlett, caught off guard, fell into the cold pool water along with her.

The pool water instantly submerged them. The suffocating feeling hit immediately.

Scarlett was a good swimmer and instinctively tried to swim up, but Chloe, who had fallen into the water, clung to her like a water demon, using both hands and feet to drag her deeper and deeper.

Chloe thrashed violently at the surface, her cries piercing and miserable, while underwater, Scarlett was so entangled by her that she didn't even have a chance to call for help.

Hearing the screams, Tristan whipped around and saw Chloe struggling violently in the pool. His face changed dramatically.

Without thinking, he dropped his phone and rushed over like a madman, jumping into the water without hesitation.

He quickly swam to Chloe's side, pulled her into his arms, and struggled to bring her to shore.

"Tristan, Scarlett pushed me," Chloe said weakly as soon as she was rescued, collapsing into his arms while coughing and complaining.

Tristan's gaze swept past her. Apart from the splashing water from their struggle, there was no third person in the pool.

Only then did he realize that Scarlett had also fallen in!

An unprecedented fear instantly gripped his heart, making his whole body go cold.

He abruptly pushed Chloe away from his arms and jumped back into the water like a madman, desperately searching.

Finally, he touched that soft fabric at the bottom of the pool.

He held the unconscious Scarlett tightly in his arms and brought her back to shore as fast as he could.

"Scarlett! Scarlett!" His hands trembled as he tried to pat her face, yet feared hurting her. Her face was deathly pale, eyes closed, breathing so weak it was barely noticeable.

He had never been so afraid.

Just then, he noticed his expensive suit jacket was stained with a glaring red.

His gaze stiffly followed that red stain downward, finally fixing on the area beneath Scarlett. Crimson blood was slowly seeping from under her white dress, spreading across the ground.

In that instant, Tristan's sanity completely collapsed.

"Scarlett!"
