Chapter 5: Stole the Power That Belonged to the Gods

The black frost in the hallway was still spreading.

The Mayan shaman's eyes were pitch black, his withered fingers pointing at Caesar, his voice as piercing as a night owl: "You... stole the power that belongs to the deity!"

Job and his wife Rebecca were both stunned when they heard this.

"That was the frost holy power I sacrificed to the god!" The shaman's voice echoed through the hallway: "The god told me! This man deserves to die!"

He turned to Job, black liquid seeping from his pitch-black pupils like bloody tears: "Mr. Job Adams, this is the deity's instruction. If you don't kill this man, your daughter's life will eventually be taken back!"

Job's face went pale.

He glanced at Caesar, then at the black liquid seeping from the shaman's eyes.

"Someone come!"

Blackwater Company's ace bodyguards rushed into the hallway, a full eight of them. Each one was a retired special forces soldier, skilled and agile.

"Take him down!" Job pointed at Caesar.

"Stop!"

Rebecca blocked the bodyguards, spreading her arms: "Job, have you lost your mind? He saved Sia!"

"Move aside."

"No! He's our daughter's savior! If you want to kill him, kill me first!"

Job pushed his wife aside: "What does a woman like you know? Don't get in the way!"

The eight bodyguards drew their stun batons and surrounded Caesar in a fan formation.

Caesar tied his bathrobe belt and asked calmly: "Mr. Adams, are you sure about this?"

"You know exactly who you are." Job said with a dark expression: "The shaman is right. A castaway couldn't possibly break the power of a deity."

"Deity?" Caesar's lips curved slightly in mockery: "Does he even qualify?"

The shaman let out a sharp hiss from his throat: "Kill him!"

The first bodyguard rushed forward.

Caesar dodged sideways, the stun baton missing his chest.

He raised his hand to grip the bodyguard's wrist and twisted gently. The bodyguard's wrist snapped just like that, hanging limply downward.

Caesar followed through with an elbow to his chest, and the bodyguard flew backward, knocking down two of his colleagues.

The second and third attacked simultaneously.

Caesar's left hand deflected the stun baton with a palm strike, while his right hand spread open and pressed against the second man's chest.

With a burst of force, that man flew out like a kite with a broken string, three meters away.

Before the third man could react, Caesar had already appeared behind him.

"Too slow."

Caesar's hand chopped down on the back of his neck.

The bodyguard's vision went dark and he collapsed to the ground.

From the first charge until now, in less than a minute, eight men lay neatly on the hallway floor.

Caesar stood among the fallen bodyguards, looking at the shaman.

For the first time, fear appeared in those pitch-black pupils.

"You..."

Caesar instantly appeared in front of the shaman, his five fingers swinging.

Smack! A slap landed on the shaman's face!

The shaman spun like a top three or four times, crashed into the wall, and bounced back onto the floor.

His eyes returned to normal, bright red blood flowing from the corner of his mouth.

"The deity's instruction?" Caesar looked down at him and said flatly: "Then let the deity come see me himself."

Job leaned against the wall, his legs weak.

He looked at the bodyguards scattered across the hallway, each one had been his trusted ace.

Now, they'd all been taken down by a family castaway.

He hadn't even seen clearly how Caesar had struck.

Sia stood beside Rebecca, her azure eyes unblinking.

Those eight bodyguards were like paper toys in front of Caesar.

She'd received the finest education in the family since childhood, had met countless young talents, and had practiced martial arts herself.

But she'd never seen this kind of power.

This man was much stronger than she'd thought!

Caesar adjusted his bathrobe sleeves and turned to walk toward the room.

"Is there anything else? If not, I need to change."

"Wait."

A weak voice stopped him.

Caesar turned back.

Sia let go of Rebecca's hand and took a step forward.

Her pale face had little color, but her azure eyes looked straight at Caesar: "I need to talk to you alone."

Caesar glanced at her and nodded.

The two walked into the bedroom and closed the door.

Sia looked at the stern man before her, took a deep breath and said: "Thank you for saving me."

"It was nothing."

"Why did you agree to this marriage?" she asked: "With your abilities, you don't need to depend on the Adams family at all."

Caesar poured a glass of water and placed it in front of Sia: "I'm fulfilling a promise."

Sia fell silent. This answer was beyond her expectations.

She touched the wedding ring on her ring finger and slowly took it off.

"Caesar, I want to break off our engagement."

Caesar's hand holding the water glass paused slightly, then returned to calm as he asked: "Your reason?"

"I can tell you don't belong here. Your world is different from mine." Sia paused, then continued: "And I've been a key focus of family cultivation since childhood. I have exceptional talent for business."

"I want to control my own destiny, not be bound by a marriage contract."

"I'm grateful you saved me, but I don't want to hand over my life just because of gratitude."

Caesar looked at her.

This newly awakened Sia had been trembling the whole time she spoke, yet she never avoided his eyes.

"You're not afraid of me?"

"I am." Sia admitted: "But some things must be said clearly."

Caesar set down the water glass: "I'll consider it."

Sia breathed a sigh of relief, bowed slightly, and turned to leave the bedroom.

In the hallway, Rebecca supported Sia and whispered: "What did you say to him?"

"I want to break off the engagement."

Rebecca's expression changed instantly: "No way!"

"Mom!"

"Silly child, you just woke up. You don't understand many things." Rebecca said in a low voice: "That man could wake you on the full moon night, could beat the person your father hired into a cripple, and took down eight ace bodyguards."

"Do you think he's really an ordinary person?"

Sia bit her lip.

"This kind of person can only be befriended, not offended. The Julius family doesn't want him, but we the Adams family do."

"But..."

"No buts." She gripped her daughter's hand and said solemnly: "The engagement absolutely cannot be broken. This isn't just for you, but for the entire Adams family."

Sia lowered her head, looking at the ring she'd removed.

In the bedroom, Caesar sat on the sofa with his eyes closed, resting.

Those eight men just now—he'd only used less than 10% of his strength.

However, that black energy inside the shaman's body reminded him of something.

Ten years ago, that family with the black star mark on their left shoulder.

The Holy Fleet's records showed that the Phoenix family also had a similar energy in their bodies.

It seemed someone had been laying plans for a very long time.
