Chapter 5: Only Nancy is worthy of Klaus!

Emma's POV

Daisy was silent for a long time, her expression complex.

"You've made up your mind?"

"Yes." I answered firmly.

"Okay! Emma, whatever you decide, I support you."

"You know, after the divorce, you can get a large settlement from Klaus. You can raise the child on your own."

She looked at me seriously. "You deserve a better life, Emma."

Tears fell from my eyes again.

"Daisy, I need to ask you one more thing."

"Don't tell anyone I'm pregnant, especially Klaus."

"I swear." Daisy agreed without hesitation. "This is your secret, and mine too."

I finally breathed a sigh of relief, my body relaxing slightly.

Perhaps from crying too much, I dozed off in the early morning hours.

When I woke again, it was already bright outside.

Daisy didn't have to work at the hospital today.

Seeing me awake, she asked, "Does your stomach still hurt?"

I shook my head slowly.

"Good. Rest a bit more. I'll make something to eat. You have a baby now, you can't go hungry."

I lay in bed, gently placing my hand on my flat abdomen.

This was my only reason to keep living.

Daisy came out of the kitchen carrying fried eggs and bacon. I sat up and walked to the dining table.

A television hung on the dining room wall, broadcasting the morning news.

The screen switched to live coverage of a gala event.

The headline was glaring: [Golden Moon Pack Alpha Makes Public Appearance with Female Companion].

In the center of the frame stood Klaus with Nancy on his arm.

My knife and fork clattered heavily onto the plate.

"Don't watch, Emma. Turn it off."

Daisy noticed my reaction and immediately reached for the remote.

I pressed down on her hand. "It's fine. I have to face it eventually, don't I?"

On TV, Nancy gazed up at Klaus adoringly, standing on her tiptoes to whisper in his ear.

Then Klaus smiled too.

A tender smile appeared on his face, one I had never seen before.

His hand wrapped around Nancy's waist with undisguised possessiveness and affection.

So he wasn't naturally cold. He just didn't smile at me.

Reporters swarmed forward, thrusting microphones at Nancy.

"Miss Nancy, what is your relationship with Mr. Klaus?"

"Are the two packs considering a marriage alliance?"

Nancy's face showed a shy smile as she gently shook her head.

"I'm just Klaus's companion."

Her voice was soft, but triumph flashed in her eyes.

Klaus looked displeased, frowning as if he disliked the reporters' questions.

Nancy noticed his mood and quickly added, "Actually, Klaus is already married."

As she said this, her eyes suddenly reddened.

"Though I do love Klaus, I don't want to be the other woman."

Her voice choked up, making her appear utterly wronged and innocent.

"I have silver poisoning. The doctor says I may not have much time left. In my final days, being able to stay by Klaus's side as a friend is enough for me."

Tears slid down her cheeks.

The guests present made sounds of sympathy, some even began crying softly.

The reporters grew more frenzied, asking constantly: "Miss Nancy, how serious is your condition?"

"Does Mr. Klaus know about your illness?"

"Do you have anything to say to Klaus's wife?"

Nancy's face grew paler. Klaus suddenly stepped forward, blocking Nancy from view.

His voice was cold and commanding. "The interview is over!"

He turned to support Nancy, his eyes full of heartache and guilt. "Let me take you to rest."

In the footage, he carefully escorted Nancy away. That retreating figure was so gentle and considerate.

"What does she think she is! Just a homewrecker stealing someone's husband!"

Daisy's face flushed red with anger.

"Emma, you're so much better than her. Don't be sad or feel inferior."

I opened my phone.

The screen showed countless message notifications, all about the interview.

I clicked on the most popular news story.

Nancy's silver poisoning had earned her endless sympathy.

The comment section was filled with prayers for her.

"Miss Nancy is so kind. She clearly loves Klaus but won't destroy someone else's marriage."

"I hope she can overcome her illness and be with Klaus!"

"Klaus treats her so well, it must be true love."

I kept scrolling and suddenly saw another headline.

[Shocking! Alpha Klaus is Actually Married!]

My fingers froze. The comment section exploded.

"What? Klaus is married? I thought he was single!"

"Who is his wife? Why has he never gone public?"

Then someone revealed: "I heard Klaus's luna is a woman without a wolf!"

This comment instantly grabbed everyone's attention.

"No wolf? How could she possibly become luna? This is an insult to the pack!"

"No wonder Klaus never acknowledges her publicly. She's useless!"

"They should divorce quickly! Only Nancy deserves Klaus!"

"Yes! Make Nancy the luna of Golden Moon! She's kind and beautiful, a hundred times better than that wolfless waste!"

More and more people began supporting Klaus divorcing me, hoping Nancy would become the pack's luna.

My face turned deathly pale.

The phone slipped from my hand and crashed heavily to the floor.

"Emma!" Daisy rushed to support me.

Old Campbell's kind face suddenly appeared in my mind.

On my wedding day to Klaus, he took my hand and told me solemnly:

"Emma, my judgment is never wrong. You and Klaus are meant for each other."

I'm sorry, Grandpa. I'm going to disappoint you after all.

The phone rang, interrupting my thoughts.

It was my adoptive mother, Sally.

The moment I answered, her sharp, harsh voice stabbed at my eardrums.

"Emma! Did you see the TV? What's going on with Nancy and Klaus?"

"You're his wife! Why would he attend a gala with another woman?"

"Everyone is talking about this now! Do you know how humiliated I am?"

I was so nervous, my palms sweating.

"Mom, let me explain. I haven't been feeling well lately and couldn't accompany Klaus, so he found a temporary companion."

Sally's voice grew even shriller, full of disappointment and accusation.

"You let another woman steal your own husband. You've disappointed me so much!"

Her tone shifted.

"And you've been married to Klaus for a year. Why haven't you gotten pregnant yet?! "

"I've been trying very hard." I gripped the phone tightly.

But Sally issued a direct order.

"Tomorrow I'm taking you to the hospital for a proper checkup! We need to find out what's wrong with your body!"

No. I couldn't let her take me to the hospital.

I couldn't let her know I was pregnant, or she would definitely tell Klaus!
