Chapter 5

It seemed Wendy had no communication problems at all.

In social settings, she could even handle things easily with her excellent abilities.

But why did Wendy seem so afraid of him?

After all, she had been the heiress of the Moore family for over ten years. There was no reason she should be so nervous and scared that her legs went weak by just standing in front of him.

What was she afraid of?

Wendy felt William’s gaze on her, her hand trembling as she hurried to tuck the USB drive away.

If William found out she was the woman from that night, he would definitely kick her out of the company right away, wouldn't he?

What would happen to her project then? What about her employees?

Wendy looked up, suppressing the panic and unease in her eyes as she offered William a polite smile. "Mr. Ford, if there's nothing else, I'll head over to the R&D center now."

Wendy made up her mind that from now on, at the Ford Group, she had to avoid William as much as possible.

Fortunately, she had just arrived at the Ford Group and still had plenty of work to handle and many people to meet.

Once she got busy, William wouldn't have any reason to keep looking for her.

William stood up. "Alright, I'll contact you if anything comes up."

These words tightened Wendy's heart.

When she looked up, William had already left the conference room.

Wendy calmed her emotions, which had been too affected by William, and headed to an L-shaped office building next to the R&D center.

The Ford Group had allocated a separate office for her project team. When she entered the office, her team members had already packed up their things.

Wendy waved at everyone, signaling them all to come over for a meeting.

A girl with chestnut-colored hair and transparent-framed glasses said quietly, "Wendy, no surveillance or listening devices found."

The girl's name was Emily Johnson, an excellent graduate Wendy had recruited at a college job fair. The two had a good relationship in private.

Wendy nodded.

Another team member, a tall guy, couldn't help but speak up. "Is all this caution really necessary? A giant like the Ford Group wouldn't stoop to playing games with us, would they?"

Emily tapped Zhou Hai on the head with a document.

"Large corporations are notoriously calculating. If the Ford Group really got our core R&D data, we'd be fired immediately!"

Hearing this, Wendy's mind flashed to William's cool, indifferent eyes.

Although she didn’t believe William to be a sneaky person, she didn't know much about the Ford Group, so it was better to be careful.

Wendy tapped on the table and assigned everyone their upcoming tasks.

At the entrance of the Ford Group.

A woman wearing a satin dress and a low-brimmed hat, carrying an exquisitely embroidered bag, took out her phone to make a call.

"I'm here."

Moments later, William's assistant, Jack Jones, personally came downstairs to escort the woman into the elevator.

This scene naturally caught quite a bit of attention.

"Isn't that Jack? Why is he bringing a woman upstairs? Is she a client of Mr. Ford's?"

"Dressed like that, how could she be here for business! She's obviously a high-class socialite!"

"Oh my god, could Mr. Ford actually be in a relationship? Did you guys see what she looks like? She's wearing a hat and her collar is so high, I couldn't see clearly!"

"Keep your voice down. How dare you gossip about Mr. Ford so loudly? Watch out, or you'll be fired tomorrow!"

Everyone lowered their voices, excitedly discussing Shirley, who had appeared so boldly at the Ford Group.

The elevator stopped, and Shirley smiled politely at Jack. "Thank you for your trouble."

"It's what I should do. Mr. Ford is in his office."

Shirley glanced toward the office, unzipped her bag, took out a lunch box, and frowned with a worried expression. "I wonder if he'll like the food I made."

Shirley knew that Jack wouldn't hide anything from William about her every move.

She had to play the part fully. Even though Jack was just an assistant, Shirley didn't dare be careless.

Jack smiled politely. "The meal you've prepared with such care—it's the thought that counts most."

Taking a deep breath, Shirley pushed open the door to William's office.

Wendy had been at the Ford Group for two days now. During these two days, Shirley had been restless, afraid that Wendy would tell William the truth.

She knew Wendy wasn't the type of woman who was vain and materialistic, but William was not only incredibly powerful but also had looks and a physique that were top-tier among men.

What woman could resist such a man?

Not to mention they'd had a one-night stand!

Shirley knew she had to take the initiative.

She immediately prepared an exquisite lunch, dressed herself up carefully, and came to bring William food.

She was William's girlfriend now—this reason was perfectly legitimate. William was silent for a moment, but didn't refuse outright.

Shirley added thoughtfully, "I won't let anyone find out about my identity. I don't want to cause you any trouble either."

After entering the office, she discreetly looked around.

William really lived up to his reputation—this office was ten times bigger than her office at the Moore Group!

The office had minimal decoration, an extremely simple style with a unified color scheme.

William sat behind his desk, with a full wall of floor-to-ceiling windows on his right side, offering an expansive view.

Looking down, you could see Starlight City's most prosperous business district, where the nation's most famous brand companies were located.

Shirley carefully took out the food containers.

The carefully prepared dishes gleamed enticingly, their aroma filling the air.

William glanced at them twice and commented, "Your cooking is quite good."

Shirley smiled shyly, then blinked playfully. "I don't know if it suits your taste. Try it first, and if you don't like it, just tell me straight—I won't cry about it."

An innocent, adorable young woman, fragrant delicious food, warm gentle sunlight...

At that moment, William's somewhat plain, cold office seemed warm and beautiful.

Watching William finish his meal, Shirley breathed a long sigh of relief. After packing everything up, she said obediently, "I'll be going now..."

William lowered his head to continue reviewing reports, not noticing Shirley's reluctant gaze.

"Aren't you going to see me out?" Shirley suddenly said, her tone somewhat disappointed and coquettish.

William looked up to see Shirley blinking her innocent eyes at him.

After a moment, the two of them went down in the elevator together.

William was actually going downstairs with that woman!

What difference was this from a public announcement?!

The private group chat erupted in a heated discussion.

[Mr. Ford is definitely in love! I never thought I'd see the day—next thing you know, pigs will fly!]

At that moment, at the corner of the lobby hallway, Wendy was holding some documents, coming to coordinate workflow with other departments.

She looked up and saw two figures standing close together, not far ahead.

Two coworkers walking past her whispered, "This is the first time Mr. Ford has publicly dated someone, and he's being so open about it—it must be true love!"

Wendy bit her lower lip.

William had a girlfriend, which meant she absolutely had to keep that night a secret.

Otherwise, wouldn't she unknowingly become a despicable homewrecker?
