Chapter 6

The last sixteen years have flown by and went smoother than I had expected. I had Lila and everything I had ever thought being a mother would be changed. Lance and I were only able to have her because of complications that occurred while I was pregnant. During my emergency c section they had to remove my uterus. It didn't occur to me at that moment that I might want more children because I was so afraid of having Lila, but I regret not looking into my options. I would do anything to have another child, but Lila was the light of our lives and was just as pretty as I am and had her dad's beautiful blond hair and my blue eyes. She turns sixteen at the end of this week and Lance and I have decided to tell her what she is.

Lance came up from behind me and kissed my neck. Just then Lila walked in the room. "Eww get a room you two", she said rolling her eyes, " Jackson is coming over soon and I definitely don't want him seeing you guys sucking face".

I looked at her sternly " you did remember to take your birth control today right"? Lance and I would prefer her to wait, but we are not oblivious to the acts of teenagers either. We would rather her take precautions than to have a baby at this point in her life. We beat it into her head school first babies later.

She groaned, " Yes Mom I take it every day and if I decide to have sex I also have condoms. I don't want an STD either".

"Good girl", Lance says as he hugs her. "Mom and I are going to be down stairs if you need anything".

"Thank you", she says with relief in her voice. There was a knock on the door and she went to answer it. As soon as the door opened I sensed something and so did Lance. He quickly walked over to the door before Lila could open it and told her to go to her room. She tried to protest but she knew that she'd get nowhere. As soon as she was gone Lance swung open the door.

"Why are you here?", he snarled. Before the boy could answer Lance was in his face. " You're a vampire so what use do you have for my daughter"?

"Sir", the boy pleaded," I do not want anything from her except to get to know her better and as for being a vampire I am only part".

"How did you know I was a vampire?", he asked, swallowing nervously.

Lance looked at him with hate and mistrust, " because I am part vampire and so is my wife and Lillian. Now I ask again, what do you want from her"?

The boy broke, " My king, Julias, has been looking for vampires that can walk in the day like me so that we can grow stronger as a coven and make the future of our vampire brothers and sisters possible and more viable. We want to be able to have normal jobs and be able to walk in the day and not solely have to rely on human blood for nutrition".

Lance's face grew softer by the minute " I understand where you are coming from because that's why our coven had us get pregnant with her, but by me letting her be with you would be considered a disgrace to my coven and they would kill me and possibly track you down and kill you and all of your coven as well".

"What if I join your coven?", the boy asked.

"I don't know what that would entail or if you even could to be honest", Lance said. "Wouldn't your coven come after you? They would kill you and Lila both."

He looked at us both with pleading eyes and finally I spoke, " we will see what it will take for you to be a part of our coven. You can stay at a hotel until we find out and if and only if you and Lila are permitted to be together you will live here with us. Lila has no idea what she is and we were planning to tell her on her sixteenth birthday at the end of the week so please don't tell her".

He had a look of relief, " thank you both so much for this. I love Lila and I would do anything for her".

Just then we heard Lila yell from upstairs, " Mom dad what is taking so long!"

"Go on up", Lance gestured towards the stairs, " but remember don't say a word." Jackson made the motion of zipping his lip and throwing away the key before making his way upstairs.

"What are we going to do", I sighed," if William finds out that we are letting her date others from another coven that have the same bloodline as she does he will be pissed".

Lance wrapped his arms around me, " I know he will be and I have no doubt in my mind that he will do the same to Lila that he did to us".

" She will only be sixteen... She's just a kid.", I cry.

Lance tightens his hold on me, " we will figure it out love".

"Should we tell her now? In case the king already knows. He's good at knowing things. Remember he knew I was pregnant just a few hours after we found out", I reminded him.

"You are right we need to do this now", he agreed. He called Jackson and Lila to the kitchen and had them sit at the table with us. Lila just stared in disbelief as Lance told her everything.

"So I'm a vampire, but not just any vampire. I can survive on human food and walk in the sunlight", she said astonished. She looked at Jackson, " you are possibly my soul mate and because we aren't in the same coven we could both die. Therefore we hope they accept you so we can be together".

"Yes", he said quietly.

"I can't process all of this!", she screamed and ran to her room.

"Well, it could have been worse,'' Lance admitted. As if right on que Terrance busted through our front door.

I couldn't act fast enough before he got to Lila. That man made me sick and I knew what he would do to her first hand and it burned with rage deep inside of my soul. I used the power that I had acquired becoming a vampire and went for his throat. Lance was fighting off a warrior that had come with Terrance and could not help me. I let out a blood curdling scream as I attacked him. It forced him to let Lila go and I screamed for her to run. Lance was still going at it with the other guy and I had to fight for myself now. Terrance ripped me from him by my hair forcing my head back. He took his fangs and scraped the crook of my neck just enough to make it bleed. He licked it.

"You taste so delicious. You could have been mine and I would have given you this and more. I will kill Lance when he becomes king and you will be mine".

I spit in his face and he slapped me. When my head flung to the side from the force of his slap I saw Lila standing there in horror "run" I mouth to her and she did.

Lance  killed the other vampire and jumped on Terrance's back and he didn't have time to react because I took this chance to kick him in the balls and break his arm in one swift move. I do have strength, but I do not use it much so I don't know my own strength or how to really use it, but I was beginning to like it. Lance twisted his head off just like he did the warrior. We had to work quickly before he repaired himself.

That was one perk about having a kid that was a vampire because when she was hurt it healed almost immediately. We had to teach her how to be around normal people, but just explained it to her as she was just really special. I could only imagine what she will be like once her DNA is activated through the bite of the one she loves. As I got a chance to look around the  room I saw that before we could react from Terrance's dramatic entrance the warrior had got to Jackson. In a split second he ripped his heart out and crushed it.

Lance wrapped his arms around me. "Are you ok"?

"Yes", I said, surveying myself and noticing my now long hair had blood in its hot pink tips. Before I could even mention Lila my phone was ringing and I answered it.

"Mama!, Are you and daddy ok? They killed Jackson and I panicked and froze! I'm so sorry Mama."

"It's ok sweetheart. Just tell me where you are".

"I'm in the mall... I thought if I went somewhere with a lot of people they wouldn't come after me".

"Smart", I said. "Wait for us in the food court." I put her on speaker.

"I love you Mama and Daddy".

Lance walked towards me, "I love you too Lila and be careful we will be there in ten minutes".

"I love you too baby", I said and we hung up.

The mall is less than 5 minutes from here. I grabbed a duffle bag and threw 2 sets of clothes and one set of pjs and all of our important papers. Which included passport social security cards, birth certificates titles to our house and cars and life insurance policies. I had everything in less than five minutes. Lance had his own backpack full of things which included ammo and a handgun for each of us. He had made a point to teach us all to shoot because he knew this day would come when we had to protect ourselves and we can't exactly let the general public see us as vampires. Lance told me that when the time came that it wouldn't be just vampires after us it would be people too. Ones that did know about us would try and find us and turn us over to their coven to get a reward. Our daughter is very rare; there are only about ten females with her traits in the world.

Two of them are too old to reproduce anymore. Even though they are stuck at the age they are turned and do not look old they still have that human part of them that stops reproducing. Their organs all stay young even the reproductive ones and they can reproduce well into their seventies but the chances drastically drop at age thirty four and our bodies just say enough. Girls are a rarity; there is a fifty to one ratio of males to females. Then there is me who can't have any more children and my daughter. There are twin babies that were born earlier this year, a four year old and that leaves three other women, one twenty seven year old  pregnant right now with a son. Then the nineteen and twenty year old sisters that came from the women in their seventies.  So I do know that there are three girls of age two of which are married. This leaves our daughter in the line of fire for every vampire coven in the world to fight over. I took Lance's hand as we pulled up to the food court doors at the mall. I texted Lila and she ran out and jumped in our SUV.

Lance looked defeated, " Melody we have to go back to the coven... back to William". I knew he was right and squeezed his hand to reassure him.

" I know we do because if we don't we won't have the protection we need. I'm going to crawl in the back while you let him know we are coming. Not that I have any doubt in my mind he doesn't know, but call him. He is your dad after all." Lance had only spoken to his father maybe once a year after he confirmed our pregnancy and Lila was born. It was just to reassure him when the time came we would come. They had an understanding, but I could tell over the years they had formed a father son love for each other and it was good for Lance to have that.

"Hey baby, how are you holding up?", I asked Lila.

"I'm ok... just taking all of this vampire stuff in". "So", she said, "when I meet my husband, the love of my life, he will turn me and my vampire traits will be activated in my DNA? I will have all the perks of being a vampire but all the perks of being human too"?

"You've got it", I said.

"How will I know who my true love is"?

" Lila you will just know, but keep this in mind because of who you are, all vampires, humans and vampire human hybrids will be attracted to you. You will be attracted to them as well because it is in your DNA to fulfill the purpose, but to keep our kind alive you must marry a vampire or a hybrid. Preferably a hybrid because you won't be limited, but you fall in love with people you don't expect to fall in love with. I must add that your grandfather is the king of our coven and when you marry that becomes your father's role".

Her eyes widened with surprise, " I'm a freaking vampire princess and you didn't tell me".

"Yes but don't start acting entitled. Stay the good person you are and you will be great", I reminded her. She hugged me and I went back up to the front seat with Lance.

He took my hand, "  he's sending us his private plane and body guards".

I giggled at the thought.

"Why are you laughing? This is serious.", He asked, confused. I'm not one to laugh during serious situations, but I couldn't help it.

"You don't find it a bit funny that we are vampires but we need vampire bodyguards?", I asked.

His lips turn up at the corners, " I see where that could be a bit humorous." We finally made it to Williams private plane and there were at least ten guards waiting for us to help us on and get the bags we had brought.
