Chapter 7: You Are Not That Great
Abigail
“It is fine, Sonia.” My words were ignored as she darted up and made her way over to their table.
Before Sonia moved out of the family house, her parents made sure she would be able to defend herself in a dangerous situation. Those boxing and karate classes obviously paid off when she grabbed Caden's hair and pushed his face down into the table, right in the middle of his food. She mumbled something into his ear and he looked towards me, fear written all over his face. She let him go and walked back to our table. I thought it would be over, that we wouldn't have to speak to each other but I was wrong.
“Hey, Abigail!” I heard his voice beside me.
It was deeper now and when I looked at him, I saw that he got more handsome too. Now I noticed how much my baby girl looks like him, so much that I almost reached out to hug him because of how similar they looked. It hurt so much, seeing him and knowing that our child was gone and he didn't, I felt so bad.
“I just wanted to apologize, Abigail, for leaving you to raise our child on your own. I hope you are both doing well, can I ask what is her name?” I looked at Sonia, who was just as shocked as I was when he asked that question. I thought he would just apologize and walk away, unbothered.
“Yes, her name is Fiona and she looks exactly like you.” I replied hesitantly. I don't think I want to tell him about the accident.
“Can I see her? Is that okay?” I gaped as a tear fell from my eyes, I looked at Sonia, giving her a pleading look and she nodded.
“All she needed was an apology, Caden. You can leave now.” She said, leaving no room for argument. He looked at her speechless.
“Why can't I see her? Isn't that what you wanted for me to try and be a part of her life?” He argued, making me tense up. If only he knew.
“Caden, I am telling you right now, if you don't walk away, you will regret it.” Sonia hissed, standing up.
“Fine, I will just go to court and demand custody over her.” I froze. What did this piece of shit just say?
In a split second, I stood up and got my hands around the collar of his shirt, pulling his face down to mine.
“What did you just say, you bastard?” He looked caught off guard.
“You heard..” I cut him off.
“You think after two years, two long fucking years that once you see me and apologize, you are suddenly allowed to decide that you, the little piece of shít and who was too pussy to raise his own child get to my baby! Have some sort of authority over my child that Sonia and I raised all by ourselves with no help from you? You got some nerve, pig and I dare you to threaten me again. Do it!”
He didn't say anything, not one word. I let him go and pushed him into the table beside us. Sonia had gotten our bags and food, she grabbed my hand and led us out of the place. As we passed the exit, I couldn't help but fall to the ground, in too much pain to keep walking. I am just so exhausted, she didn't hesitate to bring me back up and force me to keep walking.
“Keep your head up, baby girl. I am not letting you give up.” She demanded.
It was already seven in the evening when Sonia told me we should start getting ready for work. After a few minutes of getting my head together, I brought myself up and went to get ready. I touched up my hair and makeup, curling a few pieces and touching up my mascara before adding on false lashes. Then I picked an outfit for the clothes she bought for me today. Sonia walked into the room with a gorgeous black lingerie one piece fishnet underneath and matching black stiletto.
“How do I look?” She asked, I nodded my head with a big smile on my face, she could make a trash bag look hot.
“What are you wearing?” She asked.
“I don't know yet, maybe this?” I picked up the dress I was thinking of wearing and she clapped her hands together, telling me it was a better choice.
“You are absolutely beautiful, Abigail!” She screamed when I put it on, I laughed and a blush covered my cheeks.
“Thank you, you are gorgeous too.”
After putting on some sweatpants and a jacket on top of the outfit, we headed out.
“Abigail, Sonia?” We heard Mabel's voice as soon as we walked into the club's main area. We turned to her and smiled.
Hey, Mabel. How is it going tonight?” Sonia asked.
“Oh, very busy. All the girls should be making a few hundred tonight for sure.” She clapped her hands together. Sonia nodded, looking over at me and winking.
“You are going to make bank tonight, look at you.” I rolled my eyes at her and laughed.
Mabel left us to get ready after wishing me luck on my first day and I thanked her. We walked into the dressing room and greeted some of the girls there from yesterday. We got ready and hyped each other up when it was time to hit the stage. Sonia and I went up first to do our stage performance. As I was dancing and fell into the splits, a man came up to me to stick money in my cleavage area. Suddenly, he snatched my top and pulled it down, revealing my nipple and didn't hesitate to stand up and turn around, tucking my breast back into my clothes. When I turned around, I saw the bouncer, not tackling the man but trying to get Sonia off him. He told her he would deal with it with one last kick to the man's stomach, she let the bouncer drag him away and take him to Mr. Alvarez's office again. Why not just kick the man out of the club?
I finished up my performance and collected all the money on the stage, shocked at how much I had made in just one dance. Sonia gave me a big smile and thumped up. I walked back into the dressing room and was shocked when they all came up to me, congratulating me on how much money I made before they went about their business.
“Don't let their words feed your ego, sweetheart. You are not that great.”
