Chapter 3
To tell you a little about my job, I'm a personal secretary. This is what I always wanted to be, but my end goal is to be the personal secretary to a big shot multi-billion dollar CEO. I want to feel like the oil that keeps a big machine moving smoothly. Someone once said "Always dream big, and don't let anyone limit your dreams, because the possibilities are endless.
My current job as a personal secretary however, is at a mid-sized company. I work for a Mr. William Baldoni. I'd say if I had to put a value on my boss, that it would be in the millions, they haven't made it to a billion yet. I know Mr. Baldoni is working hard, which is why I'm still able to love what I do. If I worked for a lazy boss, I don't know how long I would be working there. I hate having all my efforts be wasted, as well as I hate being idle. I have to be doing something when I'm working.
My job consists of scheduling meetings, taking notes, sending correspondence, taking messages etc.
That's the work stuff, on the personal side, I make appointments, pick up dry cleaning, make sure the house workers are getting paid, overall make sure my boss is healthy and happy.
I make it to work by 8:55am since the train was on time. I head to the badge scanning station. I scan in and make my way to the elevators. Once inside, I push the button for the top floor. After reaching the floor I walk out and walk past Linda, the receptionist. "Good morning, Linda", she smiles and returns the greeting. "How was your weekend?" I ask.
"Oh, I didn't get up to much, I just did a little cleaning and relaxed."
" Well that sounds relaxing!"
We chuckle together before I walk on through to the office.
I walk to my desk that's situated outside of Mr. Baldoni's office in the open space, I set my jacket on the back of my chair and my bag I slide under the desk.
I walk to the lounge and start on the boss's coffee. I arrange some croissants on a tray(which is one thing I can say about this company, they sure do keep the lounge stocked!) They are still warm, I add a small bowl of jelly, and butter to the tray.
After fixing the coffee, I set the cup on the tray, pick it up and make my way out of the lounge. I walk to my boss's office, balance the tray on one arm and knock on the door. I hear,
"Enter"
so I open the door and walk inside. My boss is a middle aged man, probably around forty with brown hair graying at the temples, brown eyes, He's about 5'10 and has an average frame. He's a recessive alpha, which is good for me because I don't have to manage his rut so much. Because he's older and recessive, they are getting milder, so they only last a couple of days.
He's sitting at his desk with glasses perched on his nose as he stares at his computer like it's offending him.
I set the tray on the coffee table by the couches that are set up on one side of his office.
" Sir, please come and eat some breakfast before we start our day, as it's gonna be a long one."
"Any issues with your computer?"
He responds, "No, not really. I just can't find an email that I need to reference for one of today's meetings."
"Ok, let me have a look." I walk over to his computer as he walks over to the couches to sit down and begin eating. As I reach his computer, I ask "Which particular email are you looking for?"
"Cromwell is the subject, I need that pulled up and printed out."
I go to his email and search, but nothing comes up. Hmm, I go to his search filters and notice that it has 'sent by' checked, so I uncheck that and search again. Viola! It pops right up. So I open it and press print.
He looks over and raises his eyebrows and asks "You found it?"
"Yes, sir. I saw you had selected a filter so when searching it would only pull up emails that were sent by Cromwell." "After I removed that, and searched again, it popped right up!"
After this morning's little hiccup, Mr. Baldoni hit the ground running, and since he was running, I was running right behind him. I don't mind it, I get paid the big bucks to do everything that I do. Just my luck that I actually enjoy doing it. We had back to back meetings, starting at 10am.
Once 2pm hit, we took a break for lunch. I ordered sandwiches for myself and Mr. Baldoni from his favorite sandwich shop. It arrived right on time for lunch. I set everything up for him on a tray and took it to his office, this time I walked in without knocking, as I only knock at the start of the day, or when he has company.
I walk over and place the tray on the table "Lunch is served, sir. The next meeting is at 3pm so take this time to eat, and relax before we're back in meetings until 7pm."
He nods, and walks over to the couch, as he sits down to start eating I say "Excuse me sir, I'll be right outside. Give me a holler if you need anything."
He chuckles "Surely will."
I walk out of his office and over to my desk, I open my sandwich and start eating and thinking.
I like my job here, I've worked here for 3 years, but I know this isn't where I wanna end up at. After this long though, I'm not sure how to go about leaving or starting over in a new position as a newbie.
I want it though, so bad! To be right beside that billion dollar CEO, helping them run that big business. In a building with no less than 30 floors. I keep my dreams big, I like having them as motivation. One day I'll make it happen, I just know it!
The saying is aim for the moon, so even if you fail, you'll still be among the stars. That's where I'm at, in the stars, but I haven't stopped aiming for the moon though.
When I finally look up after eating, and all of the thinking I was doing, I see the time is 2:45pm. I get up from my desk and head to Mr. Baldoni's office, upon entering I notice him with his head laid back against the couch and his eyes shut.
I walk over to him and gently shake him,
"Sir, the meeting will start in 15 minutes, I have everything you'll need on your desk already. I'm about to go set up the meeting room. Do you need anything else before I go?"
He opens his eyes slowly and stretches, "No, if everything is already there, that will be all. Thank you."
