A Phone Call
Asher’s Point of View
My stomach sank as I listened to the conversation between Scarlett and her mom; being an orphan seemed much better than having such parents. Scarlett's mother didn't even care about her. Why? Because Scarlett wasn't a desperate gold digger and a disgusting whore like Scarlynn. She was hated for being hardworking and honest.
I pinched my lips together, trying to control my frustration. If it were up to me, I would have killed that woman a long time ago. At this point, I was certain she knew who Scarlynn was having an affair with; she was just a two-faced snake like her favorite daughter.
I grasped the door handle and swung it open. Scarlett was standing across the room. Sensing my presence, she quickly lifted her hand, wiping her tears with her elbows. She might have tried to hide her sorrows, but I was starting to realize just how sad she was. She was lonely, and for some unknown reason, it sent a pang through my heart.
She didn't deserve this. She was sincere, and everything she did came from her heart. She made me realize how precious my daughter was to me, and for that, I will forever be grateful to her.
“Scarlynn ," I called out her name, taking a step towards her, but she turned, ready to head to the kitchen. I held her hand, stopping her from walking away.
She flashed a quivery smile, her eyes glittering with fears she was trying to hold back. "Are you okay?" My voice was soft; as much as I tried to hate her, every day I found a reason not to.
Scarlett cleared her throat, letting out a guttural sound. Her face was puffy and red; it was clear that she had been crying, and now she wanted to mask it. "Nothing could ever happen to me anymore; the worst has already happened." Her voice broke with emotion. "Anyway, I need to make milk for Asherly; she will wake up soon." Scarlett tried to shrug out of my grasp, but I didn't let her go. Not in this condition. God knows what she might do in the kitchen; she might burn this whole house or, even worse, harm herself.
An uncomfortable sensation chilled my belly; I couldn't even understand why I felt that way for her. "Scarlynn, it's okay not to be okay, and it's okay to cry your emotions out. You will feel better." Words slipped out of my mouth without my permission. I don't know why I said that. I typically watch people going through a lot of shit without giving a fuck. Then what's changed today?
Scarlett's gaze locked with mine, tears cascaded down her cheeks, and she wrapped her arms around me as she burst into sobs. Her body shook with each ragged breath. I pulled her closer, letting her cry her emotions out. I didn't say anything but hugged her tightly, letting her cry.
Scarlett's body collapsed into my arms, her overwhelming grip visibly. I lifted her into my arms, heading to the bedroom with her. She must be exhausted, physically, mentally, and emotionally drained. A person can only go through half of what she was going through, and the worst part is she doesn't even deserve it.
I gently tucked her into the blanket and let her take much-needed rest. Maybe once she wakes up, she will feel much better.
I called Lina to come and look after Ashley and Scarlett while I went to the basement to deal with Miller. She had to learn her lesson no matter what, and I wanted to teach her that lesson.
Later that day...
A smirk spread across Miller's face as her gaze landed on me.
"Asher, I know you don't raise your hand on a woman, so you can't do anything to me." Her voice dripped with confidence. She was so sure I wouldn't do anything to her.
I chuckled as I sucked in the smoke of cigarettes and exhaled it, my gaze not leaving hers. I lifted my fingers and clapped them together; the footsteps echoed inside the basement, and a group of female guards walked in. Miller's eyes went wide, shock etched on her face.
"You were right about one thing." My jaws clenched. "I don't raise my hand on a woman, especially my sister-in-law. You still need to get punished for what you did, and these very women are going to teach you a good lesson."
Miller's mouth hung open, a gasp escaping her lips. "Asher, please forgive me. I'm so sorry for everything I've done to your daughter. I really didn't mean to." Her voice broke into sobs, tears now welling up in her eyes. She really thought I was going to spare her just like that.
I let out a sneer. "Teach her a good lesson she will never forget." I instructed the guards, and they rushed over to her and started beating her up. Her screams echoed inside the quiet room. I sucked the smoke from my cigarettes and exhaled it out, my gaze watching the scene in front of me. My child stayed in the hospital for the whole month because of her; she almost lost her life because of her. All I wanted was to finish her off, but family comes first, and I didn't want to break it apart. That's the only reason why her life is spared.
The shrill sound of my ringing phone snapped me out of my thoughts. I slipped my hand into my pocket and yanked out my phone to see an unknown number flashing on the screen.
I placed my cigarette on the small plate on the table before I answered the call.
"Asher Black, I'm your wife's lover, and I have a very hot video of your wife. I'm sure if I sell it to the media, I will make a lot of money, and I'm sure you don't want that." A cold voice spoke over the call. I balled my hand into a fist, fury coursing through my veins.
"What do you want?" I asked through gritted teeth. I was finally going to catch the jerk who slept with my wife, and I was going to show him what hell looks like in real life.
"Five billion." I let out a scoff. He was truly delusional. I had that amount of money, but he wouldn't get a penny from me. The least I could give him is death.
"Send the location." He said, his tone stern.
"Don't try to act smart with me, or else you will regret it." He threatened, but I hung up the call. I sprang from the chair, adjusting my leather jacket that hung perfectly on my arms.
"Let her go." I instructed the guards before I made my way out of the basement. I think I've found a better prey to deal with. I'm sure Miller has learned her lesson.
