Chapter Three - At Least He Didn't Figure Out The Truth.
Everly
I never thought I would see Orson tonight. The sound of his voice from behind made me panic, fearing he would discover what I was up to. Luckily, he didn’t seem to suspect that I was a call girl. Thank God, or he would have fired me on the spot.
It’s two o’clock in the morning when I exit the hotel. Jonah asked me to spend the night, but I said no because of work. It was nice to see him, and he paid me an extra one thousand on top of my usual payment. I tried telling him no, but he was having none of it. I’m grateful for it as it will contribute towards my debt repayment. It’s been a good night. My nights with Jonah are always filled with enjoyment. He always remains calm and treats me like a close friend, not a call girl. I am exhausted now and ready for bed. I don’t know when I’ll see Jonah again. It depends on when he is back in town.
Stepping outside, I enjoyed the refreshing cool air after being in the warm hotel room. I’ll be leaving soon, as my Uber is on its way to pick me up.
“Sneaking off? It’s surprising that he wasn’t asleep by nine.”
If I hadn’t been aware that it was Orson speaking, I would have been taken aback by a voice coming from behind. I express my annoyance by rolling my eyes and looking at him. He is casually dressed, with a cigarette hanging from his mouth.
“Grow up, Orson.” I snap, shaking my head.
I turn my back on him, something which he hates, but I don’t care. He isn’t my boss right now, and I don’t need to listen to his bullshit. His frustrated groans reach my ears as he joins me.
“Who lets a woman go home alone at this hour?” he asks.
“I am fully capable of looking after myself, and it’s not your concern.”
“He isn’t much of a gentleman, then, is he?”
I scoff at his choice of words. “What do you know about being a gentleman? You are rude and arrogant. He’s a true gentleman, unlike you.”
“You don’t know me, Everly.”
The anger in his voice is evident to me. I don’t waste my time replying to him. I keep my distance and patiently wait for my car to arrive.
“You can come to my room for a proper lay. We could engage in a threesome,” he says with a smirk.
“Not even a million dollars would make me sleep with you.”
Creep! I wouldn’t have sex with him if he were the last man on earth.
“I would give you the best night of your life, Everly.”
I pay no attention to him. Although I think he’s skilled in the bedroom, it wouldn’t convince me to sleep with him. When I checked my mobile phone to see when my car would arrive, I discovered that it had been cancelled. What the fuck?
“You must be kidding.”
Orson appears in front of me. “What is wrong with you?”
“My Uber has been cancelled.”
I begin to move away. It will take less time for me to walk home than to order and wait for another Uber.
“You are walking home alone?” he yells after me.
“Yes. I am a big girl.”
It won’t be the first time. I’ll keep Jonah in the dark about me walking home, or he will not be happy. The sound of his footsteps from behind suggests that he’s running. He seizes my arm and swiftly turns me to face him.
“You are not walking home alone at this time, Everly. Anything could happen to you.”
Can I detect concern in his voice? He has never demonstrated any worry or consideration for me.
“Orson, quit pretending to be concerned.”
“I don’t like you, that is obvious, but it doesn’t mean I want something bad to happen to you. I am not a monster. You have two choices: let me walk you home or get another Uber.”
He isn’t asking. He is telling. The last thing I want is for him to accompany me home. I prefer not to be around him unless necessary, and his lady friend probably wouldn’t appreciate his absence.
“If you leave me alone, I’ll order another car.”
He shakes his head. “I will leave you when you show me proof you have ordered another one. I head inside now; you could still end up walking home.”
Ugh, he really gets on my nerves. I take out my phone and book another one, showing it to him.
“Happy? Now you can go away.” I snap.
“Good girl,” he smirks. “You will come back to the front of the hotel to wait for it.”
“Do not call me that.” I snap.
I like being called a good girl, just not when he says it.
“Don’t pretend like you don’t like it. Do I have to pull you to the front of the hotel, or will you come back on your own?”
He is wearing a smirk on his face. I have a strong desire to punch him in his foolish face. With an eye roll, I make my way back to stand outside the hotel. If lucky, it will make him go. I take a seat on the step. My car will be here in ten minutes. Much to my dismay, he comes and sits right next to me, sparking up another cigarette.
“Shouldn’t you be getting back into your lady friend? I want to spend as little time with you as possible.”
“I’m perfectly content staying right where I am. She is fast asleep. She was completely worn out by me. I’m still open to the idea of you coming up to our room,” he smirks.
I sarcastically roll my eyes and say, “Orson, there is absolutely nothing in this world that would make me sleep with you.”
With a soft voice, he leans in and whispers, “Sooner or later, you’ll see that no one can resist me.”
Thank God my car arrived earlier than expected. I gave him the finger and hurried to get inside. I had to keep my distance from him to prevent saying or doing something I’d regret. I can’t wait to be home. I won’t be getting as much sleep as I expected due to the delay in my first car. I sink into the seat and let out a sigh. I’m eager to take off these heels and change out of this dress. The thought of seeing Orson tomorrow fills me with dread. I am sure he will use tonight against me. Maybe I will call in sick? Even though it’s tempting, chances are I won’t end up doing that. The day I came back, Orson would purposely give me twice as much work to annoy me.
I can handle the rest of the week until Sunday. I’m looking forward to a relaxing Sunday in my apartment, where I can do whatever I want without any interruptions from my phone. It will be impossible for anyone to reach me. The sooner it comes, the better.
