Chapter 2 - Nadia

Opening night for The Proposition was just two months away, and we were totally fucked. Most of the problems stemmed from Tatiana, the female lead. She was usually late, and sometimes didn’t show up at all. For some reason Director Atkins was terrified of her, so he never scolded her or gave her criticism, let alone threatened to cut her from the show the way he would with any other actor.

After weeks of rehearsing with Tatiana, running through my lines with Nadia tonight was like letting out a breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding. She was a fantastic actress, and it brought out the best in me. It was the kind of acting I’d dreamed of, a connection passing between us while we pretended to be different people. It was so fucking real.

Chapter 4 - Nadia

The photo on the screen was taken at Coney Island. Four shirtless guys wearing colorful bathing trunks, arms around each other while they posed for the photo. The tall man on the end was shoving a cotton candy tube at one of the others mid-photo. But my eyes were locked on the man in the middle. Braden’s feathery dark hair was blown across his face, and he was giving the camera a perfect white smile. The name on the profile said BRAD, all in caps.

Chapter 5 - Nadia

I spotted Braden immediately, in the booth on the left against the wall. He was sitting alone, focused on his phone. Was he perusing other Tinder contacts? Looking for someone better than Angela with the tits-down photo? I put my head down and hugged the wall opposite Braden’s booth. There was a big enough crowd of people lingering around that I could slip back to the bathroom without Braden noticing, giving me time to freshen up and decide what to say.
