I'd spent all day dealing with my stepmother and her gang of bitches, which led to the angry tension throughout my body. My wolf chomped at the bit to use my fine-tuned warrior skills just to end the chaos my stepmother created with one quick slice of a silver knife, but my father loved her, and I couldn't imagine breaking his heart again.

Reece takes off at a full sprint up the two flights of stairs to our modest apartment. I sigh, pulling the grocery bags into one hand and adjusting my backpack and his so I didn’t drop anything. I hoof it up the stairs and find the front door wide open. I called for Reece to help put the groceries away and his bag on the hook. He skipped back to me with a sheepish grin, “Sorry, mom. I had to use the bathroom.”

I stared out the floor-to-ceiling window of my pack house, overlooking the landscape of New Jersey. I loved the view from here; it made me feel like I was on top of the world. My father had chosen his Packhouse location very well. It was on the city's edge with trails that led into the dwindling wilderness, yet still close enough that the skyscraper didn't stick out.

Chapter 4

"Why are we in this limo at the airport in the middle of the day, Mother?" I ground out through my teeth. After spending all day yesterday getting Jessica set up in her new lifestyle, my patience was thin. The penthouse apartment was 5x the size of her house, yet she asked for more space-- a place with a pool. Which the apartment complex had. The two moving trucks full of shit took far too long to unpack, cutting into my work day.

Chapter 5

"Did you pack everything from your bookshelf?" I asked the bouncing tornado, sprinting in circles around my feet. I swear he never ran out of energy. "Yes, momma. I put all my books in the box. I need tape to close it," my son, Reece, yelled. I winced at the sound; loud noises were a massive trigger for me to become overwhelmed. I took a few deep breaths so I could talk to him calmly.
